The body is light, free from fatigue, delusion, and heat; digestion is in the mouth, the senses function well, there is no pain; sweating, sneezing, the mind united with its nature, desire for food, and itching on the head are signs of absence of fever.
Dhanvantari said: Now, therefore, I will explain the causes of blood-bile disorder—by consuming excessively hot, bitter, pungent, sour, salty, and burning substances.
By eating kodrava, uddālaka, and other such foods repeatedly mentioned, and by excessive use of bile-provoking substances, bile becomes aggravated, turns fluid, and blood is disturbed.
When these combine and attain similarity in form, they spread throughout the body; the disorder of bile and blood arises from their mixture, even from a bite.
When blood displays the same smell and color as bile, it is identified as such; it arises from the sites of blood, from the spleen, and from the liver.

Purification in the contrary direction is prescribed in blood-bile disorders; likewise, pacification and purification are to be sought here.

Complications also produce distortion, and their results are thus established.
Dhanvantari said: Since cough acts quickly, it will now be described; five types of cough are recognized—arising from wind, bile, phlegm, injury, and wasting.
All those associated with wasting, when neglected, become increasingly strong; their symptoms appear as itching and loss of taste in the throat.
Dryness of the ears, mouth, and throat occurs there, caused by downward-moving wind; when it moves upward, it reaches and accumulates in the throat.
Filling the veins and channels, it then lifts the limbs; as if throwing, it causes pain in the eyes, a strained voice, and presses on the side.
