कपिर्ज्वलितलाङ्गूलो लङ्कां देहेऽ महाबलः । दग्ध्वा लङ्कां समायातो रामपार्श्वं स वानरः ॥ १,१४३.
The mighty monkey, his tail ablaze, burned Lanka and then returned to Rama’s side.
जग्ध्वा फलं मधुवने दृष्टा सीतत्यवेदयत् । वेणीरत्नञ्च रामाय रामो लङ्कापुर्री ययौ ॥ १,१४३.
After eating fruit in the honey grove and seeing Sita, Hanuman reported to Rama and gave him the braid-jewel. Rama then set out for the city of Lanka.
ससुग्रीवः स हनुमान्सांगदश्च सलक्ष्मणः । विभीषणोऽपि सम्प्राप्तः शरणं राघवं प्रति ॥ १,१४३.
With Sugriva, Hanuman, Angada, Lakshmana, and Vibhishana, who had come seeking refuge with Raghava, Rama proceeded.
लङ्कैश्वर्येष्वभ्यषिञ्चद्रामस्तं रावणानुजम् । रामो नलेन सेतुञ्च कृत्वाब्धौ चोत्ततार तम् ॥ १,१४३.
Rama anointed Ravana’s brother as king over Lanka, and with Nala, built a bridge across the ocean and crossed it.
सुवेलावस्थितश्चैव पुरीं लङ्कां ददर्शह । अथ ते वानरा वीरा नीलाङ्गदनलादयः ॥ १,१४३.
Standing on Suvela mountain, Rama saw the city of Lanka. Then the heroic monkeys—Nila, Angada, Nala, and others—
धूम्रधूम्राक्षवीरेन्द्रा जाम्बवत्प्रमुखास्तदा । मैन्दद्विविदमुख्यास्ते पुरीं लङ्कां बभञ्जिरे ॥ १,१४३.
Along with Jambavan and the leaders Mainda and Dvivida, and the smoky-eyed rakshasa chiefs, began to destroy the city of Lanka.
राक्षसांश्च महाकायान्कालाञ्जनचयोपमान् । रामः सलक्ष्मणो हत्वा सकपिः सर्वराक्षसान् ॥ १,१४३.
Rama, with Lakshmana and the monkeys, slew all the rakshasas of great size, black as heaps of coal.
विद्युज्जिह्वञ्च धूम्राक्षं देवान्तकनरान्त कौ । महोदरमहापार्श्वावतिकायं महाबलम् ॥ १,१४३.
He killed Vidyujjihva, Dhūmrākṣa, Devāntaka, Narāntaka, Mahodara, Mahāpārśva, Atikāya, and the mighty ones.
कुम्भं निकुम्भं मत्तञ्च मकराक्षं ह्यकम्पनम् । प्रहस्तं वीरमुन्मत्तं कुम्भकर्णं महाबलम् ॥ १,१४३.
He slew Kumbha, Nikumbha, Matta, Makarākṣa, Akampana, Prahasta the fierce warrior, and the mighty Kumbhakarna.
रावणिं लक्ष्मणोऽच्छिन्त ह्यस्त्राद्यै राघवो बली । निकृत्य बाहुचक्राणि रावणन्तु न्यपातयन् ॥ १,१४३.
Lakshmana struck Ravana with weapons, and the powerful Raghava cut off his arms and felled him.
सीतां शुद्धां गृहीत्वाथ विमाने पुष्पके स्थितः । सवानरः समायातो ह्ययोध्यां प्रवरां पुरीम् ॥ १,१४३.
Then, taking purified Sita, Rama boarded the Pushpaka chariot with the monkeys and returned to the splendid city of Ayodhya.
तत्र राज्यं चकाराथ पुत्त्रवत्पालयन्प्रजाः । दशाश्वमेधानाहृत्य गयाशिरसि पातनम् ॥ १,१४३.
There, he ruled the kingdom, protecting the people as his own children, performed ten ashvamedha sacrifices, and offered oblations at Gaya.
पिण्डानां विधिवत्कृत्वा दत्त्वा दानानि राघवः । पुत्रौ कुशलवौ दृष्ट्वा तौ च राज्येऽभ्यषेचयत् ॥ १,१४३.
Raghava performed the rites for the ancestors, gave gifts, and, seeing his sons Kusha and Lava, installed them in the kingdom.
एकादशसहस्राणि रामो राज्यमकारयत् । शत्रुघ्नो लवणं जघ्ने शैलूषं भतस्ततः ॥ १,१४३.
Rama ruled for eleven thousand years. Shatrughna killed Lavana and then the demon Shailusha.
अगस्त्यादीन्मुनीन्नत्वा श्रुत्वोत्पत्तिञ्च रक्षसाम् । स्वर्गं गतो जनैः सार्धमयोध्यास्थैः कृतार्थकः ॥ १,१४३.
Having bowed to sages such as Agastya and having heard the origin of the demons, he, fulfilled in purpose, went to heaven together with the people of Ayodhya.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १४४ ब्रह्मोवाच । हरिवंशं प्रवक्ष्यामि कृष्णमाहात्म्यमुत्तमम् । वसुदेवात्तु देवक्यां वासुदेवो बलोऽभवत् ॥ १,१४४.
Brahma said: I shall now declare the Harivamsha, the supreme greatness of Krishna. From Vasudeva and Devaki, Vasudeva—Bala—was born.
धर्मादिरक्षणार्थाय ह्यधर्मादिविनष्टये । कृष्णः पीत्वा स्तनौ गाढं पूतनामनयत्क्षयम् ॥ १,१४४.
For the protection of righteousness and the destruction of unrighteousness, Krishna, having deeply sucked her breasts, brought Putana to her end.
शकटः परिवृत्तोऽथ भग्नौ च यमलार्जुनौ । दमितः कालियो नागो धेनुको विनिपातितः ॥ १,१४४.
The cart was overturned, the twin Arjuna trees were broken, the serpent Kaliya was subdued, and Dhenuka was struck down.
धृतो गोवर्धनः शैल इन्द्रेण परिपूजितः । भारावतरणं चक्रे प्रतिज्ञां कृतवान्हरिः ॥ १,१४४.
Govardhana mountain was held up and worshipped by Indra; Hari fulfilled his vow and performed the removal of the earth's burden.
रक्षणायार्जुनादेश्च ह्यरिष्टादिर्निपातितः । केशी विनिहतो दैत्यो गोपाद्याः परितोषिताः ॥ १,१४४.
For the protection of Arjuna and others, demons such as Arishta were struck down; the demon Keshi was slain, and the cowherds and others were satisfied.
चाणूरो मुष्टिको मल्लः कंसो मञ्चान्निपातितः । रुक्मिणीसत्यभामाद्याः ह्यष्टौ पत्न्यो हरेः पराः ॥ १,१४४.
Chanura, Mushtika the wrestler, and Kamsa were struck down from the platform; Rukmini, Satyabhama, and others—eight supreme wives—belonged to Hari.
षोढश स्त्रीसहस्राणि ह्यन्यान्यास महात्मनः । तासां पुत्राश्च पौत्राद्याः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः ॥ १,१४४.
There were sixteen thousand other women of the great-souled one; their sons, grandsons, and others numbered in the hundreds and thousands.
रुक्मिण्याञ्चैव प्रद्युम्नो न्यवधीच्छंबरञ्च यः । तस्य पुत्रोऽनिरुद्धोऽभूदुषाबाणसुतापतिः ॥ १,१४४.
And from Rukmini, Pradyumna killed Shambara; his son was Aniruddha, lord of Usha, the daughter of Bana.
हरिशकरयोर्यत्र महायुद्धं बभूव ह । बाणबाहुसहस्रञ्च च्छिन्नं बाहुद्वयं ह्यभूत् ॥ १,१४४.
There was a great battle between Hari and the moon-crested one, in which Bana's thousand arms were cut, leaving only two.
नरको निहतो येन पारिजातं जहार यः । बलश्च शिसुपालश्च हतश्च द्विविदः कपिः ॥ १,१४४.
Naraka was slain by whom the Parijata tree was taken; Balarama and Shishupala, and the monkey Dvivida, were also killed.
अनिरुद्धादभूद्वज्रः स च राजा गते हरौ । सन्दीपनिं गुरुञ्चक्रे सपुत्रञ्च चकार सः । मथुरायां चोग्रसेनं पालनं च दिवौकसाम् ॥ १,१४४.
From Aniruddha was born Vajra, who became king after Hari departed; he made Sandipani his guru, along with his son, and in Mathura, Ugrasena was established as protector of the gods.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १४५ ब्रह्मोवाच । भारतं संप्रवक्ष्यामि भारावतरणं भुवः । चक्रे कृष्णो युध्यमानः पाण्डवादिनिमित्ततः ॥ १,१४५.
Brahma said: I shall now declare the Bharata, the removal of the earth's burden; Krishna, fighting on account of the Pandavas and others, accomplished it.
विष्णुनाभ्यब्जतो ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मपुत्रोऽत्रिरत्रितः । सोमस्ततो बुधस्तस्मादिलायां च पुरूरवाः ॥ १,१४५.
From Vishnu's navel arose Brahma; from Brahma, his son Atri was born; from Soma came Budha, and from Budha, Pururavas was born from Ila.
तस्यायुस्तत्र वंशेऽभूद्ययातिर्भरतः कुरुः । शन्तनुस्तस्य वंशेऽभूद्गङ्गायां शन्तनोः सुतः ॥ १,१४५.
In that lineage, Ayus was born to him; then Yayati, Bharata, and Kuru; in Kuru's line was Shantanu, whose son by Ganga was born.
भीष्मः सर्वगुणैयुक्तो ब्रह्मवैवर्तपारगः ॥ १,१४५.
Bhishma, endowed with all virtues, was accomplished in the Brahma Vaivarta.
