अयुतायुस्तस्य पुत्रस्तस्य चाक्रोधनः सुतः । अक्रोधनस्यातिथिश्च ऋक्षोऽभूदतिथेः सुतः ॥ १,१४०.
Ayutāyu was his son, and Akrodhana was the son of Ayutāyu; from Akrodhana came Atithi, and Ṛkṣa was the son of Atithi.
ऋक्षाच्च भीमसेनोऽभूद्दिलीपो भीमसेनतः । प्रतीपोऽभूद्दिलीपाच्च देवापिस्तु प्रतीपतः ॥ १,१४०.
From Ṛkṣa was born Bhīmasena; from Bhīmasena, Dilīpa; from Dilīpa, Pratīpa; and from Pratīpa, Devāpi.
शन्तनुश्चैव बाह्लीकस्त्रयस्ते भ्रातरो नृपाः । बाह्लीकात्सोमदत्तोऽभूद्भूरिर्भूरिश्रवास्ततः ॥ १,१४०.
Śantanu, Bāhlīka, and another were three royal brothers; from Bāhlīka came Somadatta, and from him, Bhūri and Bhūriśravā.
शलश्च शन्तनोर्भोष्मो गङ्गायां धार्मिको महान् । चित्राङ्गदविचित्रौ तु सत्यवत्यान्तु शन्तनोः ॥ १,१४०.
Śala was the son of Śantanu, and the great, righteous Bhīṣma, born of Gaṅgā; from Satyavatī, Śantanu had Citrāṅgada and Vicitra.
भार्ये विचित्रवीर्यस्य त्वम्बिकाम्बालिके तयोः । धृराष्ट्रं च पाण्डुञ्च तद्दास्यां विदुरन्तथा ॥ १,१४०.
The wives of Vicitravīrya were Ambikā and Ambālikā; from them were born Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Pāṇḍu, and from a maidservant, Vidura.
व्यास उत्पादयामास गान्धागी धृतराष्ट्रतः । शतपुत्रं दुर्योधनाद्यं पाण्डोः पञ्च प्रजज्ञिरे ॥ १,१४०.
Vyāsa begot, from Gāndhārī, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who had a hundred sons, with Duryodhana as the first; from Pāṇḍu, five sons were born.
प्रतिबिन्ध्यः श्रुतसोमः श्रुतकीर्तिस्तथार्जुनात् । शतानीकः श्रुतकर्मा द्रौपद्यां पञ्च वै क्रमात् ॥ १,१४०.
Pratibandhya, Śrutasoma, Śrutakīrti, Śatānīka, and Śrutakarman were the five sons of Draupadī, each from one of the Pāṇḍavas in order.
यौधेयी च हिडिम्बा च कौशी चैव सुभद्रिका । विजया वै रेणुमती पञ्चभ्यस्तु सुताः क्रमात् ॥ १,१४०.
Yaudheya, Hiḍimbā, Kauśī, Subhadrikā, Vijayā, and Reṇumatī—these were the mothers of sons, each from one of the five brothers in order.
देवको घचोत्कचश्च ह्यभिमन्युश्च सर्वगः । सुहोत्रो निरमित्रश्च परीक्षिदभिमन्युजः ॥ १,१४०.
Devaka, Ghā, Utkaca, Abhimanyu the all-pervading, Suhotra, Niramitra, and Parīkṣit, son of Abhimanyu.
जनमेजयोऽस्य ततो भविष्यांश्च नृपाञ्छृणु ॥ १,१४०.
Janamejaya was his son; now listen to the kings who will come after him.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १४१ हरिरुवाच । शतानीको ह्यश्वमेधदत्तश्चाप्यधिसोमकः । कृष्णोऽनिरुद्धश्चाप्युष्णस्ततश्चित्ररथो नृपः ॥ १,१४१.
Hari said: Śatānīka, Aśvamedhadatta, Adhisomaka, Kṛṣṇa, Aniruddha, Uṣṇa, and then Citraratha were kings.
शुचिद्रथो वृष्णिमांश्च सुपेणश्च सुनीथकः । नृचक्षुश्च मुखाबाणः मेधावी च नृपञ्जयः ॥ १,१४१.
Śucidratha, Vṛṣṇimān, Supeṇa, Sunīthaka, Nṛcakṣu, Mukhābāṇa, Medhāvī, and Nṛpañjaya followed.
पारिप्लवश्च मुनयो मेधावी च नृपञ्जयः । बृहद्रथो हरिस्तिग्मो शतानीकः सुदानकः ॥ १,१४१.
Pāriplava, Medhāvī, Nṛpañjaya, Bṛhadratha, Haristigman, Śatānīka, and Sudānaka came next.
उदानोऽह्निनरश्चैव दण्डपाणिर्निमित्तकः । क्षेमकश्च ततः शूद्रः पिता पूर्वस्ततः सुतः ॥ १,१४१.
Udāna, Ahninara, Daṇḍapāṇi, Nimittaka, and then Kṣemaka; after him, Śūdra, and then his son, the previous father.
बृहद्बलास्तु कथयन्ते नृपोश्चैक्ष्वाकुवंशजाः । बृहद्बलादुरुक्षयो वत्सव्यूहस्ततः परः ॥ १,१४१.
The Bṛhadbalas are recounted, and the kings born in the Ikṣvāku lineage; after Bṛhadbala comes Urukṣaya, then Vatsavyūha, and thereafter others.
वत्सव्यूहात्ततः सूर्यः सहदेवस्तदात्मजः । बृहदश्वो भानुरथः प्रतीच्यश्च प्रतीतकः । मनुदेवः सुनक्षत्रः किन्नरश्चान्तरिक्षकः ॥ १,१४१.
From Vatsavyūha comes Sūrya, then his son Sahadeva; Bṛhadaśva, Bhānuratha, Pratīcya, Pratītaka, Manudeva, Sunakṣatra, Kinnara, and Antarikṣaka.
सुपर्णः कृतजिच्चैव बृहद्भ्राजश्च धार्मिकः । कृतञ्जयो धनञ्जयः संजयः शाक्य एव च ॥ १,१४१.
Suparṇa, Kṛtajit, and the righteous Bṛhadbhrāja; Kṛtañjaya, Dhanañjaya, Saṃjaya, and also Śākya.
शुद्धोदनो बाहुलश्च सेनजित्क्षुद्रकस्तथा । सुमित्रः कुडवश्चातः सुमित्रान्मागधाञ्छणु ॥ १,१४१.
Śuddhodana, Bāhula, Senajit, and likewise Kṣudraka; Sumitra, Kuḍava, and from Sumitra, the Magadhas are known.
जरासन्धः सहदेवः सोमापिश्च श्रुतश्रवाः । अयुतायुर्निरमित्रः सुक्षत्रो बहुकर्मकः ॥ १,१४१.
Jarāsandha, Sahadeva, Somāpi, Śrutaśravā, Ayutāyus, Niramitra, Sukṣatra, and Bahukarmaka.
श्रुतञ्जयः सेनजिच्च भूरिश्चैव शुचिस्तथा । क्षेम्यश्च सुव्रतो धर्मः श्मश्रुलो दृढसेनकः ॥ १,१४१.
Śrutañjaya, Senajit, Bhūri, and also Śuci; Kṣemya, Suvrata, Dharma, Śmaśrula, and Dṛḍhasenaka.
सुमतिः सुबलो नीतो सत्यजिद्विश्वजित्तथा । इषुञ्जयश्च इत्येते नृपा बार्हद्रथाः स्मृताः ॥ १,१४१.
Sumati, Subala, Nīta, Satyajit, Viśvajit, and Iṣuñjaya—these kings are remembered as the Bārhadrathas.
अधर्मिष्ठाश्च शूद्राश्च भविष्यन्ति नृपास्ततः । स्वर्गादिकृद्धि भगवान्साक्षान्नारायणोऽव्ययः ॥ १,१४१.
After them, there will be kings who are most unrighteous and of the Śūdra class; then, the blessed, eternal Nārāyaṇa himself, the source of heaven and so forth, will descend.
नैमित्तिकः प्राकृतिकस्तथैवात्यन्तिको लयः । याति भूः प्रलयं चाप्सु ह्यापस्तेजसि पावकः ॥ १,१४१.
There is the occasional, the elemental, and the absolute dissolution; the earth goes to destruction in the waters, the waters into fire, and fire into air.
वायौ वायुश्च वियति त्वाकाशौ यात्यहङ्कृतौ । अहं बुद्धौ मतिर्जोवे जीवोऽव्यक्ते तदात्मनि ॥ १,१४१.
Air merges into space, space into the sense of ego; ego into intellect, intellect into mind, mind into the vital self, and the vital self into the unmanifest, and then into the Supreme Self.
आत्मा परेश्वरो विष्णुरेको नारायणो नरः । अविनाश्यपरं सर्वं जगत्स्वर्गादि नाशि हि ॥ १,१४१.
The Self is the Supreme Lord, Viṣṇu, the one Nārāyaṇa, the Person; all else, including the worlds and heavens, is perishable, but he is imperishable and supreme.
नृपादयो गता नाशमतः पापं विवर्जयेत् । धर्मं कुर्यात्स्थिरं येन पापं हित्वा हरिं व्रजेत् ॥ १,१४१.
Since kings and others have met their end, one should avoid sin; by steadfastly practicing righteousness, forsaking sin, one attains Hari.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १४२ ब्रह्मोवाच । विंशादीन्पालयामास ह्यवतीर्णो हरिः प्रभुः । दैत्यधर्मस्य नाशार्थं वेदधर्मादिगुप्तये ॥ १,१४२.
Brahmā said: The Lord Hari himself descended and protected the Manus and others, for the destruction of demonic conduct and the preservation of Vedic law and its branches.
मत्स्यादिकस्वरूपेण त्ववतारं करोत्यजः । मत्स्यो भूत्वा हयग्रीवं दैत्यं हत्वाजिकण्टकम् ॥ १,१४२.
Assuming the forms beginning with the Fish, the unborn one makes his descents; becoming a Fish, he slew the demon Hayagrīva, the thorn among horses.
वेदानानीय मन्वादीन्पालयामास केशवः । मन्दरं धारयामास कूर्मो भूत्वा हिताय च ॥ १,१४२.
Having brought back the Vedas, Keśava protected the Manus and others; becoming a Tortoise, he supported Mount Mandara for their benefit.
क्षीरोदमथने वै द्यो देवो धन्वन्तरिर्ह्यर्भूत् । बिभ्रत्कमण्डलुं पूर्णममृतेन समुत्थितः ॥ १,१४२.
In the churning of the ocean of milk, the god Dhanvantari appeared, holding a full water-pot, and arose with the nectar.
