श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १३६ ब्रह्मोवाच । श्रवणद्वादशों वक्ष्ये भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनीम् । एकादशी द्वादशी च श्रवणेन च संयुता ॥ १,१३६.
Brahma said: I will describe the twelfth day joined with Śravaṇa, which grants both enjoyment and liberation; the eleventh and twelfth days, when accompanied by Śravaṇa.
विजया सा तिथिः प्रोक्ता हरिपूजादि चाक्षयम् । एक भक्तेन नक्तेन तथैवायाचितेन च ॥ १,१३६.
That day is called Vijaya; worship of Hari and other rites performed then are inexhaustible; whether by a single devotee, by fasting at night, or by one who requests it.
उपवासेन भैक्ष्येण नैवाद्बादशिको भवेत् । कास्यं मांसं तथा क्षौद्रं लोभं वितथभाषणम् ॥ १,१३६.
By fasting or by accepting alms, one should not eat on the twelfth day; one must avoid eating pulses, meat, honey, greed, and false speech.
व्यायामं च व्यवायं च दिवास्वप्नमथाञ्जनम् । शिलाषिष्टं मसूरं च द्वादश्यां वर्जयेन्नरः ॥ १,१३६.
One should abstain from exercise, sexual activity, daytime sleep, and the application of collyrium; also from stone-ground food and lentils on the twelfth day.
मासी भाद्रपदे शुक्ला द्वादशी श्रवणान्विता । महती द्वादशी ज्ञेया उपवासे महाफला ॥ १,१३६.
In the month of Bhādrapada, the bright twelfth day joined with Śravaṇa is to be known as the great twelfth; fasting on this day yields great results.
संगम सरितां स्नानं बुधयुक्ता महाफला । कुंभे सरत्ने सजले यजेत्स्वर्णं तु वामनम् ॥ १,१३६.
Bathing at the confluence of rivers on this day, when joined with Budha, brings great merit; in a water-filled pot, one should worship a golden image of Vāmana.
सितवस्त्रयुगच्छन्नं छत्रोपानद्युगान्वितम् । ओं नमो वासुदेवाय शिरः संपूजयेत्ततः ॥ १,१३६.
Covered with a pair of white garments, accompanied by an umbrella and a pair of shoes, one should then worship the head with the mantra 'Om namo Vāsudevāya.'
श्रीधराय मुखं तद्वत्कण्ठं कृष्णाय वै नमः । नमः श्रीपतये वक्षो भुजौ सर्वास्त्रधारिणे ॥ १,१३६.
In the same way, one should worship the face for Śrīdhara, the throat for Kṛṣṇa, the chest for Śrīpati, and the arms for the bearer of all weapons.
व्यापकाय नमः कुक्षौ केशवायोदरं बुधः । त्रैलोक्यपतये मेढ्रं जङ्घे सर्वभृते नमः ॥ १,१३६.
One should worship the abdomen for Vyāpaka, the belly for Keśava, the genitals for the Lord of the three worlds, and the thighs for the sustainer of all.
सर्वात्मने नमः पादौ नैवेद्यं घृतपायसम् । कुम्भांश्च मोदकान्दद्याज्जागरं कारयेन्निशि ॥ १,१३६.
One should worship the feet for the soul of all; offer ghee-rice as food, give pots and sweets, and keep vigil through the night.
स्नात्वाचान्तोर्ऽचयित्वा तु कृतपुष्पाञ्जलिर्वदेत् । नमोनमस्ते गोविन्द बुध श्रवणसंज्ञक ! ॥ १,१३६.
After bathing and performing purification, having worshipped and made an offering of flowers, one should say: 'Salutations to you, Govinda, wise one named Śravaṇa!'
अघौघसंक्षयं कृत्वा सर्वसौख्यप्रदो भव । प्रीयतां देवदेवेशो विप्रेभ्यः कलशान्ददेत् । नद्यस्तीरेऽयः वा कुर्यात्सर्वान्कामानवाप्नुयात् ॥ १,१३६.
Having destroyed the mass of sins, become the giver of all happiness; may the Lord of gods be pleased. One should give pots to the Brahmins; on the riverbank or in one's home, one may perform this and attain all desires.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १३७ ब्रह्मोवाच । कामदेवत्रयोदश्यां पूज्यो दमनकादिभिः । रतिप्रीतिसमायुक्तो ह्यसोको मणिभूषितः ॥ १,१३७.
Brahma said: On the thirteenth day dedicated to Kāma, he should be worshipped with damana and other flowers; adorned with jewels, Aśoka is accompanied by delight and affection.
(इति मदनकत्रयोदशीव्रतम्) । चतुर्दश्यां तथाष्टभ्यां पक्ष्योः शुक्लकृष्णयोः । योऽब्दमेकं न भुञ्जीत मुक्तिभाक्शिवपूजनात् ॥ १,१३७.
(Thus is the vow of Madanaka Trayodaśī.) On the fourteenth day and on both eighth days of the bright and dark fortnights, one who does not eat for a year, by worshipping Śiva, attains liberation.
(इति शिवचतुर्दश्यष्टमीव्रतम्) । त्रिरात्रोपोषितो दद्यात्कार्तिक्यां भवनं शुभम् । सूर्यलोकमवाप्नोति धामव्रतमिदं शुभम् ॥ १,१३७.
(Thus is the vow of Śiva Caturdaśī and Aṣṭamī.) One who fasts for three nights and gives a house during Kārtikī attains the world of the sun; this is the auspicious vow of light.
अमावस्यां पितॄणां च दत्तं जलादितदक्षयम् । नक्ताभ्याशी वारनाम्ना यजन्वाराणि सर्वभाक् ॥ १,१३७.
On the new moon, offerings of water and other items to the ancestors are inexhaustible; one who eats only at night, named after the days, and who worships on those days, receives all blessings.
(इति वारव्रतानि) । द्वादशर्क्षाणि विप्रर्षे ! प्रतिमासं तु यानि वै । तन्नाम्नान्तेऽतच्युतं तेषु सम्यक्संपूजयेन्नरः ॥ १,१३७.
O sage among the twice-born! The twelve zodiac signs, which occur each month—at the end of each by name, a man should duly worship Acyuta among them.
केशवं मार्गशीर्षे तु इत्यादौ कृतिकादिके (का) । घृतहोमश्चतुर्मासं कृसरञ्च निवेदयेत् ॥ १,१३७.
In Mārgaśīrṣa, one should worship Keśava, and so on, beginning with Kṛttikā; for four months, one should offer ghee into the fire and present kṛsara as food.
आषाढादौ पायसं तु विप्रांस्तेनैव भोजयेत् । पञ्चाव्यजलस्नाननैवेद्यैर्नक्तमाचरेत् ॥ १,१३७.
At the start of Āṣāḍha, one should offer pāyasa, and with that feed the brāhmaṇas; with fivefold offerings of water, bathing, and food, one should observe the night fast.
अर्वाग्विसर्जनाद्द्रव्यं नैवेद्यं सर्वमुच्यते । विसर्जिते जगन्नाथे निर्माल्यं भवति क्षणात् ॥ १,१३७.
All offerings made before the formal dismissal are considered naivedya; once the Lord of the universe is dismissed, the remainder instantly becomes nirmālya.
पाञ्चरात्रविदो मुख्या नैवेद्यं भुञ्जते स्वयम् । एवं संवत्सरस्यान्ते विशेषेण प्रपूजयेत् ॥ १,१३७.
The foremost knowers of the Pāñcarātra themselves partake of the naivedya; in this way, at the end of the year, one should worship with special devotion.
नमोनमस्तेऽच्युत ! संक्षयोऽस्तु पापस्य वृद्धिं समुपैतु पुण्यम् । ऐश्वर्यवित्तादि सदाक्षयं मे तथास्तु मे सन्ततिरक्षयैव ॥ १,१३७.
Salutations, salutations to you, Acyuta! May my sins be destroyed; may my merit ever increase; may my wealth and prosperity never diminish, and may my lineage remain unbroken.
यथाच्युत !त्वं परतः परस्मात्स ब्रह्मभूतः परतः परस्मात् । तथाच्युतं मे कुरु वाञ्छितं सदा मया कृतं पापहराप्रमेय ॥ १,१३७.
Just as you, O Acyuta, are beyond the beyond, the very essence of Brahman, so too, O immeasurable one, remover of sins, always fulfill my desires as I have worshipped you.
अच्युतानन्त ! गोविन्द ! प्रसीद यदभीप्सितम् । तदक्षयममेयात्मन्कुरुष्व पुरुषोत्तम ॥ १,१३७.
Acyuta! Ananta! Govinda! Be gracious—whatever is desired, O immeasurable self, O Supreme Person, grant that unfailing boon.
कुर्याद्वै सप्त वर्षाणि आयुः श्रीसद्गतीर्नरः । उपोष्यैकादशीब्दमष्टमीं च चतुर्दशीम् ॥ १,१३७.
A man who observes for seven years, fasting on Ekādaśī, Aṣṭamī, and Caturdaśī, attains long life, prosperity, and the highest state.
सप्तमीं पूजयेद्विष्णुं दुर्गां शम्बुं रविं क्रमात् । तेषां लोकं समाप्नोति सर्वकामांश्च निर्मलः ॥ १,१३७.
On the seventh day, one should worship Viṣṇu, Durgā, Śambhu, and the Sun in order; he attains their realms, all pure desires, and purity.
एकभक्तेन नक्तेन तथैवायाचितेन च । उपवासेन शाकाद्यैः पूजयन्तसर्वदेवताः ॥ १,१३७.
By worshipping all the deities with single-minded devotion, with night-fasting, with food obtained by alms, or with vegetables and the like, one is blessed.
सर्वः सर्वासु तिथिषु भुक्तिं मुक्तिमवाप्नुयात् । धनदोऽग्निः प्रतिपदि नासत्यो दस्त्र अर्चितः ॥ १,१३७.
Whoever observes all these fasts on all lunar days attains both enjoyment and liberation; on the first day, Kubera and Agni are worshipped, and the Aśvins as well.
श्रीर्यमश्च द्वितीयायां पञ्चम्या पार्वती श्रिया । नागाः षष्ठ्यां कार्तिकेयः सप्तम्यां भास्करोर्ऽथदः ॥ १,१३७.
On the second day, Lakṣmī and Yama; on the fifth, Pārvatī and Śrī; on the sixth, the Nāgas; on the seventh, Kārttikeya and the Sun, bestower of wealth.
दुर्गाष्टम्यां मातरश्च नवम्यामथ तक्षकः । इन्द्रो दशम्यां धनद एकादश्यां मुनीश्वराः ॥ १,१३७.
On Durgāṣṭamī, Durgā and the Mothers; on the ninth, Takṣaka; on the tenth, Indra; on the eleventh, Kubera and the great sages.
