प्रातर्देव ! चतुर्दश्यां जागरिष्याम्यहं निशि । पूजां दानं तपो होमं करिष्याम्यात्मशक्तितः ॥ १,१२४.
In the morning, O Lord, on the fourteenth day, I will keep vigil at night; I will perform worship, charity, austerity, and oblation according to my ability.
चतुर्दश्यां निराहारो भूत्वा शम्भो परेऽहनि । भोक्ष्येऽहं भुक्तिमुक्त्यर्थं शरणं मे भवेश्वर ॥ १,१२४.
On the fourteenth day, remaining without food, O Shambhu, on the next day I shall eat, seeking enjoyment and liberation; O Lord of beings, you are my refuge.
पञ्चगव्यामृतैः स्नाप्य तत्काले गुरुं श्रितः । ओं नमो नमः शिवाय गन्धाद्यः पूजयेद्धरम् ॥ १,१२४.
Bathing the guru at that time with the five nectars of the cow, one should worship the righteous one with sandal and other offerings, reciting 'Om, obeisance, obeisance to Shiva.'
तिलतण्डुलव्रीहींश्च जुहुयात्सघृतं चरुम् । हुत्वा पूर्णाहुतिं दत्त्वा शृणुयाद्गीतसत्कथाम् ॥ १,१२४.
One should offer sesame, rice, and barley with ghee as an oblation; having performed the full offering, one should listen to songs and sacred stories.
अर्धरात्रे त्रियामे च चतुर्थे च पुनयर्जत् । मूलमन्त्रं तथा जप्त्वा प्रभाते तु क्षमापयेत् ॥ १,१२४.
At midnight, at the third watch, and again at the fourth, one should recite the root mantra, and in the morning, ask for forgiveness.
अविघ्नेन व्रतं देव ! त्वत्प्रसदान्मयार्चितम् । क्षमस्व जगतां नाथ ! त्रैलोक्याधिपते हर ! ॥ १,१२४.
O Lord, by your grace I have observed this vow without obstacle; forgive me, O Lord of the worlds, O Hara, ruler of the three worlds!
यन्मयाद्य कृतं पुण्यं यद्रुद्रस्य निवेदितम् । त्वत्प्रसादान्मया देव ! व्रतमद्य समापितम् ॥ १,१२४.
Whatever merit I have gained today, whatever has been offered to Rudra, by your grace, O Lord, I have completed the vow today.
प्रसन्नो भव मे श्रीमन् गृहं प्रति च गम्यताम् । त्वदालोकनमात्रेण पवित्रोऽस्मि न संशयः ॥ १,१२४.
Be gracious to me, O glorious one, and return to your abode; by merely seeing you, I am purified, without doubt.
भोजयेद्ध्याननिष्ठांश्च वस्त्रच्छत्रादिकं ददेत् । देवादिदेव भूतेश लोकानुग्रहकारक ॥ १,१२४.
One should feed those devoted to meditation and give them garments, umbrellas, and the like; O Lord of beings, O God of gods, benefactor of the worlds.
यन्मया श्रद्धया दत्तं प्रीयतां तेन मे प्रभुः । इति क्षमाप्य च व्रती कुर्याद्वादशवार्षिकम् ॥ १,१२४.
Whatever I have given with faith, may the Lord be pleased by that; thus, having asked forgiveness, the observer of the vow should perform it for twelve years.
कीर्तिश्रीपुत्रराज्यादि प्राप्य शैवं पुरं व्रजेत् । द्वादशेष्वपि मासेषु प्रकुर्यादिह जागरम् ॥ १,१२४.
Having obtained fame, prosperity, sons, and kingdom, one attains the Shaiva city; in all twelve months, one should keep vigil here.
व्रती द्वादश संभोज्य दीपदः स्वर्गमाप्नुयात् ॥ १,१२४.
He who feeds twelve vow-observers and gives lamps attains heaven.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १२५ पितामह उवाच । मान्धाता चक्रवर्त्यासीदुपोष्यैकादशीं नृपः । एकादश्यां न भुञ्जीत पक्षयोरुभयारपि ॥ १,१२५.
The venerable Pitamaha said: Mandhata, the emperor, observed the Ekadashi fast; on Ekadashi, one should not eat, on either fortnight.
दशम्येकादशीमिश्रा गान्धार्या समुपोषिता । तस्याः पुत्रशतं नष्टं तस्मात्तां परिवर्जयेत् ॥ १,१२५.
When the tenth and eleventh days are mixed, Gandhari observed the fast; her hundred sons were lost, therefore one should avoid that day.
द्वादश्येकादशी यत्र तत्र सन्निहितो हरिः । दशम्येकादशी यत्र तत्र सन्निहितोऽसुरः । बहुवाक्यविरोधेन सन्देहो जायते यदा ॥ १,१२५.
Where the twelfth and eleventh days coincide, there is the presence of Hari; where the tenth and eleventh days coincide, there is the presence of the demon; when there is much conflicting opinion, doubt arises.
द्वादशी तु तदा ग्राह्या त्रयोदश्यान्तु पारणम् । एकादशी कलापिस्यादुपोष्या द्वादशी तथा ॥ १,१२५.
Then, the twelfth day should be accepted, and the breaking of the fast should be on the thirteenth; one should fast on Ekadashi with its proper portion, and likewise on the twelfth.
एकादशी द्वादशी च विशेषेण त्रयोदशी । त्रिमिश्रा सा तिथिर्ग्राह्या सर्वपापहरा शुभा ॥ १,१२५.
Especially the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth lunar days—when these three are combined, that auspicious tithi should be observed, for it removes all sins.
एकादशीमुपोष्यैवद्वादशीम थवा द्विज ! । त्रिमिश्रां चैव कुर्वीत न दशम्या युतां क्रचित् ॥ १,१२५.
After fasting on the eleventh day, a twice-born should observe the twelfth; or else, he should perform the combined three, but never when joined with the tenth day.
रात्रौ जागरणं कुर्वन्पुराणश्रवणं नृपः । गदाधरं पूजयंश्च उपोष्यैका दशीद्वयम् । रुक्माङ्गदो ययौ मोक्षमन्ये चैकादशीव्रतम् ॥ १,१२५.
By keeping vigil at night, listening to Purāṇas, worshipping Gadādhara, and fasting on both eleventh days, Rukmāṅgada attained liberation; others too by the Ekādaśī vow.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १२६ ब्रह्मोवाच । येनार्चनेन वै लोको जगाम परमां गतिम् । तमर्चनं प्रवक्ष्यामि भुक्तिमुक्तिकरं परम् ॥ १,१२६.
Brahmā said: By which worship the world attained the supreme state, that worship I will declare, which grants both enjoyment and liberation.
सामान्यमण्डलं न्यस्य धातारं द्वारदेशतः । विधातारं तथा गङ्गां यमुनां च महानदीम् ॥ १,१२६.
Placing the general maṇḍala, the creator at the doorway, the arranger, as well as the Ganges, Yamunā, and the great river.
द्वारश्रियं च दण्डं च प्रचण्डं वास्तुपूरुषम् । मध्ये चाधारशक्तिं च कूर्मं चानन्तमर्चयेत् ॥ १,१२६.
At the doorway, worship the goddess of fortune, the staff, the fierce Vāstu Puruṣa; in the center, the supporting power, the tortoise, and Ananta.
भूमिं धर्मं तथा ज्ञानं वैरग्यैश्वर्यमेव च । अधर्मादींश्च चतुरः कन्दं नालं च पङ्कजम् ॥ १,१२६.
Worship the earth, dharma, knowledge, detachment, and sovereignty; also the four roots of adharma and others, the stem and the lotus.
कर्णिकां केसरं सत्त्वं राजसं तामसं गुणम् । सुर्यादिमण्डलान्येव विमलाद्याश्च शक्तयः ॥ १,१२६.
The pericarp, the filament, sattva, rajas, and tamas qualities; the solar and other circles, and the pure and other powers.
दुर्गां गणं सरस्वतीं क्षेत्रपालं च कोणके । आसनं मूर्तिमभ्यर्च्य वासुदेवं बलं स्मरन् ॥ १,१२६.
Durgā, the hosts, Sarasvatī, and the field guardian at the corners; after worshipping the seat and the image, remembering Vāsudeva's strength.
अनिरुद्धं महात्मानं नारायणमथार्चयेत् । हृदयादीनि चाङ्गानि शङ्खादीन्यायुधानि च ॥ १,१२६.
Worship Aniruddha, the great soul, and Nārāyaṇa; also the heart and other limbs, and the conch and other weapons.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १२७ ब्रह्मोवाच । माघमासे शुक्लपक्षे सूर्यर्क्षेण युता पुरा । एकादशी तथा चैका भीमेन समुपोषिता ॥ १,१२७.
Brahmā said: In the month of Māgha, during the bright fortnight, when joined with the solar sign, once, Bhīma observed the Ekādaśī fast.
आश्चर्य तु व्रतं कृत्वा पितॄणामनृणोऽभवत् । भीमद्वादशी विख्याता प्राणिनां पुण्यवर्धिनी ॥ १,१२७.
Performing this wondrous vow, he became free from debts to his ancestors; the Bhīma Dvādaśī is renowned, increasing merit for all beings.
नक्षत्रेण विनाप्येषा ब्रह्महत्यादि नाशयेत् । विनिहन्ति महापापं कुनृपो विषयं यथा ॥ १,१२७.
Even without the star, it destroys sins like killing a Brāhmaṇa; it removes great sins, as a bad king destroys his realm.
कुपुत्त्रस्तु कुलं यद्वत्कुभार्या च पतिं यथा । अधर्मं च यथा धर्मः कुमन्त्री च यथा नृपम् ॥ १,१२७.
Just as a bad son ruins his family, a wicked wife her husband, adharma destroys dharma, and a false minister ruins a king.
