इति श्रागारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे याज्ञवल्क्योक्तकर्मविपाकनिरूपणं नाम चतुरुत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and fourth chapter, named 'The Explanation of the Results of Actions as Spoken by Yājñavalkya,' in the Conduct Section of the First Part of the Śrī Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
विहितस्याननुष्ठानान्निन्दितस्य च सेवनात् 105.
From the failure to perform prescribed duties and from engaging in condemned acts—
तस्माद्यत्नेन कर्त्तव्यं प्रायश्चित्तं विशुद्धये 105.
Therefore, atonement must be diligently performed for purification.
लोकः प्रसीदेदात्मैवं प्रायश्चित्तैरघक्षयः 105.
Thus, by atonements, the world is pleased and sin is destroyed.
नरकान्यान्ति पापा वै महारौरवरौरवान् 105.
Indeed, sinners go to hells such as Mahāraurava and Raurava.
हंसाभं लोहितोदं च सञ्जीवननदीपथम् 105.
The path leads to the river Sañjīvanī, which is like a swan and has red waters.
अविचीं कुम्भीपाकं च यान्ति पापा ह्यपुण्यतः 105.
The sinful, due to their lack of merit, go to Avīci and Kumbhīpāka.
गुरुनिन्दा वेदनिन्दा ब्रह्महत्यासमे ह्युभे 105.
Reviling the teacher or the Veda is equal to the sin of killing a Brahmin.
रजस्वलामुखास्वादः सुरापानसमानि तु 105.
Tasting the mouth of a menstruating woman is considered equal to drinking liquor.
सखिभार्याकुमारीषु स्वयोनिष्वन्त्यजासु च 105.
Having relations with a friend's wife, a maiden, one's own kin, or outcast women—
पितुः स्वसारं मातुश्च मातुलानीं स्नुषामपि 105.
With one's father's sister, mother's sister, maternal uncle's wife, or even one's daughter-in-law—
आचार्य्यपत्नीं स्वसुतां गच्छंस्तु गुरुतल्पगः 105.
Approaching the wife of a teacher or one's own daughter—such a one is called a violator of the teacher's bed.
गोवधो व्रात्यतास्तेयमृणानां च परिक्रिया 105.
Killing a cow, becoming an outcaste, theft, and neglecting debts—
भृत्याचाध्ययनादानं भृतकाध्यापनमन्तथा 105.
Receiving instruction from a servant, or teaching for hire—
सच्छूद्रविट्क्षत्त्रबन्धोर्निन्दितार्थोपजीविता 105.
Living off condemned means among true Śūdras, Vaiśyas, or Kṣatriyas—
पितृमातृसुहृत्त्यागस्तडागारामविक्रयः 105.
Abandoning one's father, mother, or friend, or selling ponds or gardens—
कन्याप्रदानं तस्यैव कौटिल्यं व्रतलोपनम् 105.
Giving away a maiden improperly, acting crookedly, or breaking a vow—
स्वाध्यायाग्निसुतत्यागो बान्धवत्याग एव च 105.
Abandoning one's own study, sacred fire, or relatives—
उपपापानि चोक्तानि प्रायश्चित्तं निबोधत 105.
These are declared as minor sins; now listen to the expiation.
ब्रह्महा द्वादश समा मितभुक् शुद्धिमाप्नुयात् 105.
A Brahmin-killer attains purity in twelve years by eating little.
मज्जान्तां जुहुयाद्वापि स्वस्वमन्त्रैर्यथाक्रमम् 105.
Or he may offer oblations into the marrow, each with the proper mantras in order.
निरातङ्कं द्विजं गां च ब्राह्मणार्थे हतोऽपि वा 105.
Or, even if he is killed for the sake of a Brahmin, he or a twice-born cow becomes free from distress.
सरस्वतीं वा संसेव्यं धनं पात्रे समर्पयेत् 105.
Or, by serving Sarasvatī or giving wealth to a worthy recipient.
गर्भहा वा यथावर्णं तथात्रेयीनिषू (सू) दनम् 105.
Or, a destroyer of the fetus, according to his class, should give the prescribed fee to an Ātreya.
द्विगुणं सवनस्थे तु ब्राह्मणे व्रतमाचरेत् 105.
When a Brāhmaṇa is present at a Soma sacrifice, he should observe a vow that is twice as severe.
अग्निवर्णं घृतं वापि चीरवास जटी भवेत् 105.
He should wear garments of bark and matted hair, and subsist on clarified butter of the color of fire.
रेतेविण्मूत्रपानाच्च सुरापा ब्राह्मणी तथा 105.
A Brāhmaṇa woman who drinks semen, urine, or excrement, or who drinks liquor, is likewise so.
स्वर्णहारी द्विजो राज्ञे दत्त्वा तु मुसलं तथा 105.
A twice-born who steals gold, after giving a pestle to the king, should do likewise.
आत्मतुल्यं सुवर्णं वा दत्त्वा शुद्धिमियाद्द्विजः 105.
Or, by giving gold equal to his own weight, the twice-born attains purification.
उच्छेद्य लिङ्गं वृषणं नैर्ऋत्यामुत्सृजोद्दिशि 105.
The severed phallus and testicles should be cast away in the southwestern direction.
