अनध्यायस्त्र्यहं प्रेते शिष्यर्त्त्विग्गुरुबन्धुषु 96.

During twilight, thunder, earthquakes, or the fall of meteors, study is to be suspended.
पञ्चदश्यां चतुर्दश्यामष्टम्यां राहुसूतके 96.
On the fifteenth, fourteenth, and eighth lunar days, and during a solar or lunar eclipse, study is forbidden.
पशुमण्डूकनकुलश्वाहिमार्जारसूकरैः 96.
Also, when there are animals such as cattle, frogs, mongooses, horses, snakes, cats, or boars present.
श्वक्रोष्टुगर्दभोलूकसामबाणार्त्तनिः स्वने 96.
In the sound of dogs, jackals, donkeys, owls, and the wailing of arrows.
देशेऽशुचावात्मनि च विद्युत्स्तनितसंप्लवे 96.
In an impure place, in oneself, and during a storm of lightning and thunder.
दिग्दाहे पांशुवर्षेषु सन्ध्यानी हारभीतिषु 96.
During a burning of the quarters, in a dust storm, at twilight, and in times of great fear.
खरोष्ट्रयानहस्त्यश्वनौवृक्षगिरिरोहणे 96.
While mounting a donkey, camel, vehicle, elephant, horse, boat, tree, or mountain.
वेददिष्टं तथाचार्य्यं राजच्छायां परस्त्रियम् 96.
One should not disregard what is prescribed in the Vedas, by the teacher, the king’s shadow, or another’s wife.
विप्राहिक्षत्त्रियात्मानो नावज्ञेयाः कदाचन 96.
The selves of Brahmins, beggars, and Kshatriyas are never to be disrespected.
श्रुतिस्मृत्युक्तमाचारं कुर्य्यान्मर्मणि न स्पृशेत् 96.
One should practice conduct as stated in the Śruti and Smṛti, and not touch the vital spots.
आचरेत्सर्वदा धर्मं तद्विरुद्धं तु नाचरेत् 96.
One should always act according to dharma and never act against it.
पञ्च पिण्डाननुद्धृत्य न स्नायात्परवारिषु 96.
Without removing the five lumps of food, one should not bathe in another’s water.
वर्जयेत्परशय्यादि न चाश्रीयादनापदि 96.
One should avoid another’s bed and the like, and should not use them except in distress.
वैणाभिशस्तवार्द्धुष्यगणिकागणदीक्षिणाम् 96.
From those condemned by the king, aged, prostitutes, and those initiated into heretical groups—
क्रूरोग्रपतितव्रात्यदाम्भिकोच्छिष्टभोजिनाम् 96.
From cruel, fierce, fallen, outcaste, hypocritical, and those who eat leftovers—
नृशंसराजरजककृतघ्नवधजीविनाम् 96.
From murderers, slayers of kings, those who kill women, and those who live by killing—
वन्दिनां स्वर्णकाराणामन्नमेषां कदाचन 96.
From bards, goldsmiths—one should never accept food from these.
भक्तं पर्य्युषितोच्छिष्टं श्वस्पृष्टं पतितो (ते) क्षितम् 96.
Food that is stale, defiled, touched by a dog, or fallen on the ground is considered impure.
गोघ्रातं शकुनोच्छिष्टं पादस्पृष्ट च कामतः 96.
Food smelled by a cow, left over by a bird, or touched by the foot intentionally—
भोज्यान्नो नापितश्चैव यश्चात्मानं निवेदयेत् 96.
Food to be eaten, and a barber, and one who offers himself—
अस्नेहा अपि गोधूमयवगोरसविक्रियाः 96.
Even without oil, wheat, barley, cow’s milk, and their products are to be avoided.
क्रव्यादपक्षिदात्यूहशुकमांसानि वर्जयेत् 96.
One should avoid the flesh of carnivorous animals, birds, dātyūha (a kind of bird), and parrots.
वृथा कृसरसंयाव पायसापूपशष्कुलीः 96.
One should avoid food that is wasted, as well as krisara, rasa, samyāva, pāyasa, apūpa, and śaṣkulī.
चाषान्मत्स्यात्रक्तपादञ्चग्द्ध्वा वै कामतो नरः 96.
If a person eats cāṣa birds, fish, or animals with red feet out of desire—
पलाण्डुलशुनादीनि जग्द्ध्वा चान्द्रायणं चरेत् 96.
—or eats onions, garlic, and the like, he should perform the Cāndrāyaṇa penance.
वसेत्स नरके घोर दिनानि पशुरोमतः मांसं सन्त्यज्य संप्रार्थ्य कामान्याति ततो हरिम् ॥ 96.
Such a person, according to the sages, dwells in a terrible hell for many days; but by giving up meat, earnestly seeking desires, he then attains Hari.
इति श्रीगारुजे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे याज्ञवल्क्योक्तश्राद्धनिरूपणं नाम षण्णवतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the ninety-sixth chapter, entitled 'The Description of Śrāddha as Taught by Yājñavalkya,' in the Ācārakāṇḍa of the First Section of the Purva-khaṇḍa of the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
