वार्द्धक्ये रक्षते पुत्रो ह्यन्यथा ज्ञातयस्तथा 95.
In old age, a son protects; otherwise, relatives do so.
ज्येष्ठां धर्मविधौ कुर्य्यान्न कनिष्ठां कदाचन 95.
One should appoint the eldest in matters of duty, never the youngest at any time.
आहरेद्विधिवद्दारानग्निं चैवाविलम्बितः 95.
He should take a wife according to prescribed rites and kindle the sacred fire without delay.

For the accomplishment of recitation and sacrifice, he should recite spiritual knowledge.
भूतपित्रमरब्रह्ममनुष्याणां महामखाः 96.
The great sacrifices are for beings, ancestors, gods, sages, and humans.
अन्नं भूमौश्वचाण्डालवायसेभ्यश्च निः क्षिपेत् 96.
He should cast food on the ground for dogs, outcastes, and birds.
स्वाध्यायमन्वहं कुर्य्यान्न पचेच्चान्नमात्मने 96.
One should perform daily study of the Veda and not cook food for oneself alone.
संभोज्यातिथिभृत्यांश्च दम्पत्योः शेषभोजनम् 96.
After feeding guests and servants, the husband and wife should eat what remains.
मितं विपाकं च हितं भक्ष्यं बालादिपूर्वकम् 96.
Food should be moderate, well-cooked, wholesome, and first offered to children and others.
अनग्नममृतं चैव कार्य्यमन्नं द्विजन्मना 96.
A twice-born should prepare food that is not touched by fire and is pure, as required.
अप्रणोद्योऽतिथिः सायमपि नात्र विचारणा 96.
A guest must not be turned away, even in the evening; there should be no hesitation in this.
आगतान् भोजयेत्सर्वान्महोक्षं श्रोत्रियाय च 96.
One should feed all who arrive, and offer a cow of great value to a learned Brahmin.

One should avoid restlessness of speech, hands, and feet, as well as overeating.
अहः शेषं सहासीत शिष्टैरिष्टैश्च बन्धुभिः 96.
One should spend the remainder of the day with worthy and beloved relatives.
कुर्य्याद्भृत्यैः समायुक्तैश्चिन्तयेदात्मनो हितम् 96.
With devoted servants, one should consider what is beneficial for oneself.
वृद्धार्त्तानां समादेयः पन्था वै भारवाहिनाम् 96.
The path should be given to the elderly, the afflicted, and those carrying burdens.
