भूमिष्ठे मण्डपे स्नात्वा मण्डले विष्णुमर्चयेत् 8.
Having bathed in a pavilion on the ground, one should worship Viṣṇu in the maṇḍala.
षोडशैः कोष्ठकैस्तत्र सम्मितं रुद्र ? कारयेत् 8.
There, with sixteen enclosures, one should construct the prescribed Rudra.
कोणसूत्रादुभयतः कोणा ये तत्र संस्थिताः 8.
From the corner threads on both sides, those who are situated at the corners there.
तदनन्तरकोणेषु एवमेव हि कारयेत् 8.
In the subsequent corners, one should arrange in the same manner.
अन्तरेषु च सर्वेषु अष्टौ चैव तुनाभयः 8.
And in all the spaces between, and also in the eight directions without fear.
अन्तरा स द्विजश्रेष्ठः पादोनं भ्रामयेद्धर ! 8.
In between, O best of twice-born, one should draw a circle less by a quarter, O Hari.
कर्णिकाया द्विभागेन केसराणि विचक्षणः 8.
With discernment, one should make the filaments of the central part in two divisions.
सर्वेषु नाभिक्षेत्रषु मानेनानेन सुव्रत ! 8.
In all the navel centers, O virtuous one, with this measure.
आदिसूत्रविभागेन द्वाराणि परिकल्पयेत् 8.
With the division of the initial threads, one should arrange the doors.
कर्णिकां पीतवर्णेन सितरक्तादिकेसरैः 8.
The central part should be yellow in color, with filaments of white, red, and other hues.
कृष्णवर्णेन रजसा चतुरश्रं प्रपूरयेत् 8.
He should fill the square with black-colored powder.
सिता रक्ता तथा पीता कृष्णा चैव यथाक्रमम् 8.
White, red, yellow, and black—these in order.
हृन्मध्ये तु न्यसेद्विष्णुं कण्ठे सङ्कर्षणं तथा 8.
He should place Viṣṇu in the center of the heart, and likewise Saṅkarṣaṇa at the throat.
ब्रह्माणं सर्वगात्रेषु करयोः श्रीधरं तथा 8.
He should place Brahmā in all the limbs, and Śrīdhara on the hands as well.
न्यसेत्सङ्कर्षणं पूर्वे प्रद्युम्नं चैव दक्षिणे 8.
He should place Saṅkarṣaṇa in the east, and Pradyumna in the south.
श्रीधरं रुद्रकोणेषु इन्द्रादीन्दिक्षु विन्यसेत् 8.
He should place Śrīdhara in the Rudra corners, and in the directions of Indra and the others.

At the proper time, the initiated disciple, with eyes bound and covered with cloth—
द्विगुणं पुत्रके होमं त्रिगुणं साधके मतम् 9.
The offering is to be doubled for a son, and tripled for a sādhaka, it is taught.
गुरुविष्णुद्विजस्त्रीणां हन्ता बध्यस्त्व(श्च)दीक्षितैः 9.
One who kills a guru, Viṣṇu, a twice-born, or a woman is to be bound by the initiated.
उपवेश्य बहिः शिष्यान्धारणं तेषु कारयेत् 9.
Having seated the disciples outside, he should make them undertake the observance.
आग्नेय्या दह्यमानांश्च प्लावितानम्भसा पुनः 9.
Those who are burned by fire in the southeast should again be sprinkled with water.
प्रणवं चिन्तयेव्द्योम्नि शरीरेऽन्यत्तु कारणम् 9.
He should contemplate the praṇava in the sky, and the body as the cause elsewhere.
उत्पाद्य योजयेत्पश्चादेकैकं वृषभध्वज 9.
Having produced it, he should then connect each one, O Bull-bannered One.
चतुर्द्वारं भवेत्तच्च ब्रह्मतीर्थादनुक्रमात् 9.
It should have four gates, following the order from the sacred place of Brahmā.
कर्णिकातलहस्तन्तु नखान्यस्य तु केशराः 9.
The palm is the base of the pericarp, and the nails are its filaments.
तं हस्तं पातयेन्मूर्ध्नि शिष्यस्य तु समाहितः नश्यन्ति स्पर्शनात्तस्य पातकान्यखिलानि च ।। 9.
He should place that hand, with concentration, on the head of the disciple; by that touch, all his sins are destroyed.
गुरुः शिष्यं समभ्यर्च्य नेत्रे बद्धे तु वाससा पुष्पं निपतितं यत्र मूर्ध्नो देवस्य शार्ङ्गिणः ।। 9.
The guru, having duly worshipped the disciple, with eyes bound by cloth—where the flower falls on the head of the god Śārṅgin—
तन्नाम कारयेत्तस्य स्त्रीणां नामांकितं स्वयम् 9.
He should assign that name to him, or for women, a name marked by himself.
श्र्यादिपूजां प्रवश्र्यामि स्थण्डिलादिषु सिद्धये श्रां श्रीं श्रूं श्रैं श्रौं श्रः क्रमाद्धृदयं च शिरः शिखाम् 10.
I begin the worship of Śrī and others for success, upon the altar and similar places; recite śrāṃ, śrīṃ, śrūṃ, śraiṃ, śrauṃ, śraḥ in sequence, then hṛdaya, śiraḥ, and śikhā.
मण्डले पद्मगर्भे च चतुर्द्वारि रजोऽन्विते 10.
Within the circle, in the lotus's center, at the four gates, accompanied by dust.
