Those who died by fire, and those who were slain by lions or tigers,
And those who were burned by fire, as well as others who were not burned,
Those who have gone to Raurava, Andhatamisra, and Kaalasutra,
Those who have entered the dreadful Asipatra forest and Kumbhipaka,
And those dwelling in the realms of torment among the departed,
Those who have entered the wombs of animals, birds, insects, and reptiles,
Those who have been led to countless places of torment by Yama's decrees,
Who wander among thousands of different births according to their own actions,
Whether relatives or not, or those who were relatives in another birth,
Whatever ancestors of mine exist in the form of departed spirits,
Those born in my paternal lineage, and likewise in my maternal lineage,
Those in my family who lack offerings, deprived of sons and wives,
Those deformed, those in impure wombs, known or unknown in my lineage,
May the gods be witnesses for me, Brahma, Ishana, and others likewise,
I have come to Gaya, O Lord, for the rites of the ancestors, O wielder of the mace,
The great river, the Brahma lake, the imperishable banyan, the radiant rising sun—ah! the summit of Gaya,
Thus ends the eighty-fifth chapter named 'The Glory of Gaya,' in the Achara section of the first part of the revered Garuda Mahapurana.
That stone known as the Preta-shila in Gaya is established in three ways.
The stone, pervaded by all the gods, is upheld by righteousness for prosperity.
For the purpose of uplifting them, the auspicious preta-stone exists.
Those who perform śrāddha and similar rites on that stone attain the world of Brahma.
Therefore, the mountain with the flat summit is indeed pervaded by all the gods.
Among them, the lotus grove is thus especially distinguished.
Therefore, the mountain called Krauñca's Foot grants the world of Brahma to the ancestors.
Thus, the stone, pervaded by the gods, is unmanifest in the form of a rock.
In the course of time, the primordial bearer of the mace became manifest and remained there.
For the protection of righteousness and the destruction of unrighteousness and the like,
The Tortoise, the Boar, the Man-Lion, the Dwarf, and the mighty Rāma,
In this way, the primordial bearer of the mace appeared, possessing both manifest and unmanifest forms.
Therefore, the primordial bearer of the mace is to be worshipped with water for the feet and other offerings, with fragrances and flowers.
