सर्वे मुक्ता विशालोऽपि सपुत्रोऽभुच्च पिंडदः 84.
All were liberated, even Viśāla; and the giver of the piṇḍa became endowed with sons.
कथं पुत्रादयः स्युर्मे विप्राश्चोतुर्विशालकम् 84.
How shall I have sons and brāhmaṇas, O Viśālaka?
विशालोऽथ गयाशीर्ष पिण्डदोऽभूच्च पुत्रवान् 84.
Viśāla then, at Gayāśīrṣa, became a giver of offerings and obtained a son.
के यूयं तेषु चैवैकः सितः प्रोचे विशालकम् 84.
Who are you all? Among them, one who was pale spoke to Viśāla.
मम पुत्र पिता रक्तो ब्रह्महा पापकृत्परम् 84.
My son, my father, was attached to violence, a slayer of a Brahmin, and foremost in evil deeds.
अवीचिं नरकं प्राप्तौ मुक्तौ जातौ च पिण्डदः 84.
He reached the hell Avīci, but, being liberated, became a recipient of offerings.
कृतकृत्यो विशालोऽपि राज्यं कृत्वा दिवं ययौ 84.
Viśāla, having accomplished his duties and ruled the kingdom, ascended to heaven.
ये चाप्यकृतचूडास्तु ये च गर्भाद्विनिस्सृताः 84.
And those who have not undergone the cūḍā ceremony, and those expelled from the womb—
भूमौ दत्तेन तृप्यन्तु तृप्ता यान्तु परां गतिम् 84.
May they be satisfied by what is given on earth, and, being content, attain the highest state.
माता पितामही चैव तथैव प्रपितामही 84.
Mother, paternal grandmother, and likewise great-grandmother—
वृद्धप्रमातामहश्च तथा मातामही परम् 84.
The aged maternal grandfather, and also the supreme maternal grandmother—
अन्येषां चैव पिंडोऽयमक्षय्यमुपतिष्ठताम् ॥ 84.
And for others as well, may this inexhaustible offering be established.
इति श्रागारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे गयामाहात्म्यं नाम चतुरशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the Śrī Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa, in the first section of the Pūrvakhaṇḍa, in the Ācārakāṇḍa, the eighty-fourth chapter named 'The Greatness of Gayā' is concluded.
स्नात्वा प्रेतशिलादौ तु वरुणास्थामृतेन च 85.
Having bathed at Pretaśilā and with the nectar of Varuṇa's seat—
अस्मत्कुले मृता ये च गतिर्येषां न विद्यते 85.
Those who have died in our lineage, for whom no destination is known—
पितृवंशे मृता ये च मातृवंशे च ये मृताः 85.
Those who have died in the paternal line, and those who have died in the maternal line—
मातामहकुले ये च गतिर्येषां न विद्यते 85.
And those in the maternal grandfather's line, for whom no destination is known—
अजातदन्ता ये केचिद्ये च गर्भे प्रपीडिताः 85.
Those who are toothless from birth, and those who were afflicted in the womb—
बन्धुवर्गाश्च ये केचिन्नामगोत्रविवर्जिताः तेषामुद्धरणार्थाय इम पिण्डं ददाम्यहम् ॥ 85.
And those among the relatives whose names and lineages are unknown—for the sake of their deliverance, I offer this oblation.
उद्बन्धनमृता ये च विषशस्रहताश्च ये 85.
And those who died by hanging, and those struck down by poison or weapons—
अग्निदाहे मृता ये च सिंहव्याघ्रहताश्चये 85.
Those who died by fire, and those who were slain by lions or tigers,
अग्निदग्धाश्च ये केचिन्नाग्निदग्धास्तथापरे 85.
And those who were burned by fire, as well as others who were not burned,
रौरवे चान्धतामिस्त्रे कालसूत्रे च ये गताः 85.
Those who have gone to Raurava, Andhatamisra, and Kaalasutra,
असिपत्रवने घोरे कुम्भीपाके च ये गताः 85.
Those who have entered the dreadful Asipatra forest and Kumbhipaka,
अन्येषां यातना स्थानां प्रेतलोकनिवासिनाम् 85.
And those dwelling in the realms of torment among the departed,
पुशुयोनिं गता ये च पक्षिकीटसरीसृपाः 85.
Those who have entered the wombs of animals, birds, insects, and reptiles,
असंख्ययातनासंस्था ये नीता यमशासनैः 85.
Those who have been led to countless places of torment by Yama's decrees,
जात्यन्तरसहस्त्रेषु भ्रमन्ति स्वेन कर्मणा 85.
Who wander among thousands of different births according to their own actions,
ये बान्धवाऽबान्धवा वा येऽन्यजन्मनि बान्धवाः 85.
Whether relatives or not, or those who were relatives in another birth,
ये केचित्प्रेतरूपेण वर्त्तन्ते पितरो मम 85.
Whatever ancestors of mine exist in the form of departed spirits,
