उज्जयिन्यां महाकालः कुब्जके श्रीधरो हरिः 81.

महाकेशी च कावेरी चन्द्रभागा विपाशया 81.

सूर्य्यः शिवो गणो देवी हरिर्यत्र च तिष्ठति 81.
Where the Sun, Shiva, Gana, Devi, and Hari also reside.
पूजा श्राद्धं पिण्डदानं सर्वं भवति चाक्षयम् 81.
Worship, ancestral rites, and offering of rice-balls—all become imperishable there.
कोकामुखं च वाराहं भा (भु) ण्डीरं स्वामिसंज्ञकम् 81.
Kokamukha, Varaha, and Bhundira, known as Swami.
कामरूपं महातीर्थं कामाख्या (क्षा) यत्र तिष्ठति 81.
Kamarupa, the great sacred place, where Kamakhya abides.
विरजस्तु महातीर्थं तीर्थं श्रीपुरुषोत्तमम् 81.

Meditation on Brahman is the supreme pilgrimage; self-control is a holy place.
ज्ञानह्रदे ध्यानजले रागद्वेषमलापहे 81.
In the lake of knowledge, in the water of meditation, the stains of passion and hatred are destroyed.
इदं तीर्थमिदं नेति ये नरा भेददर्शिनः 81.
Those men who see difference, saying, 'This is a sacred place, this is not,'—
सर्वं ब्रह्मेतियोऽवेति नातीर्थं तस्य किञ्चन 81.
Whoever knows that all is Brahman, for him there is no sacred place beyond that.
सर्वा नद्यः सर्वशैलाः तीर्थं देवादिसेवितम् 81.
All rivers, all mountains, and all holy places worshipped by gods and others—
सप्तगोदावरं तीर्थं तीर्थं कोणगिरिः परम् 81.
The seven Godāvarī fords are holy, and Koṇagiri is a supreme pilgrimage site.
सह्याद्रौ देवदेवेश एकवीरः सुरेश्वरी 81.
On Mount Sahya, the Lord of gods, Ekavīra, and Sureśvarī reside.
स्नात्वा कनखले तीर्थे स भवेन्न पुनर्भवे सूत उवाच 81.
One who bathes at the holy place Kanakhala does not take birth again.
श्रुत्वाऽब्रवीद्धरेर्ब्रह्मा व्यासं दक्षादिसंयुतम् गयाख्यं प्राह सर्वेषामक्षयं ब्रह्मलोकदम् ॥ 81.
Having heard this, Brahmā spoke to Vyāsa, accompanied by Dakṣa and others: he declared Gayā to be imperishable and the giver of the world of Brahman to all.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे सर्वतीर्थ माहात्म्यं नामैकाशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the eighty-first chapter, named 'The Greatness of All Holy Places,' in the Ācārakāṇḍa of the first section of the Purva-khaṇḍa of the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
(अथ गयामाहात्म्यं प्रारभ्यते) सारात्सारतरं व्यास गयामाहात्म्यमुत्तमम् 82.
(Now begins the greatness of Gayā.) Vyāsa, the most excellent, recited the essence of the essence: the supreme greatness of Gayā.
गयासुरोऽभवत्पूर्वं वीर्य्यवान्परमः स च 82.
In ancient times, there was the mighty and most powerful demon Gayāsura.
तत्तपस्तापिता देवास्तद्वधार्थं हरिं गताः 82.
Afflicted by his austerities, the gods went to Hari for the purpose of his destruction.
पात्यतेऽस्य महादेहो तथेत्यूचुः सुरा हरिम् 82.
His great body was to be cast down; thus spoke the gods to Hari.
आनीय कीकटे देशे शयनं चाकरोद्वली 82.
Bringing him to the land of Kīkaṭa, they made him lie down there.
