आपीतपाण्डुरुचिरः पाषाणः पद्मरागसंज्ञस्तु 74.
A stone with a pale, radiant hue is known as padmaraga.
आलोहितस्तु पीतः स्वच्छः काषायकः स एकोक्तः 74.
One that is reddish, yellow, transparent, and brown is described as a single kind.
अत्यन्तलोहितो यः स एव खलु पद्मरागसंज्ञः स्यात् 74.
That which is extremely red is indeed called padmaraga.
मूल्यं वैदूर्य्यमणेरिव गदितं ह्यस्य रत्नसारविदा 74.
Its value is spoken of by experts in jewels, just as for the vaidurya gem.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे पुष्परागपरीक्षणं नाम चतुः सप्ततितमोऽध्यायः

वायुर्नखान्दैत्यपतेर्गृहीत्वा चिक्षेप सत्पद्मवनेषु हृष्टः 75.
The wind, having seized the nails of the lord of the demons, joyfully scattered them in the lotus forests.
वर्णेन तद्रुधिरसोममधुप्रकाशमाताम्रपीतदहनोज्ज्वलितं विभाति 75.
By its color, it shines with the brilliance of blood, soma, honey, copper, yellow, and fire.
स्निग्धा विशुद्धाः समरागिणश्च आपीतवर्णा गुरवो विचित्राः 75.
Those that are smooth, pure, with a reddish tint, yellow in color, heavy, and varied.
पात्रेण काञ्चनमयेन तु वेष्टयित्वा तप्तं यदा हुतवहे भवति प्रकाशम् 75.
When wrapped in a golden vessel and heated in fire, it becomes radiant.
एवंविधं बहुगुणं मणिमावहन्ति कर्केतनं शुभलङ्कृतये नरा ये 75.
Such a gem, possessing many qualities, is brought by men for auspicious adornment.
एकेऽपनह्य विकृताकुलनीलभासः प्रम्लानरागलुलिताः कलुषा विरूपाः 75.
Some, not worn, appear distorted, confused, dark, faded, lacking color, impure, and deformed.
कर्केतनं यदि परीक्षितवर्णरूपं प्रत्यग्रभास्वरदिवाकरसुप्रकाशम् 75.
If the karketana gem is examined and found to have the color and form as described, shining with a fresh, radiant brilliance like the sun.

They are white, resembling conch shells and lotuses, or like the Syonāka flower, and possess great brilliance.
हेमादिप्रतिबद्धाः शुद्धमपि श्रद्धया विधत्ते यः 76.
Bound with gold and other metals, even when pure, they bestow benefits upon those who have faith.
निरीक्ष्य पलायन्ते यं तमरण्यनिवासिनः समीपेऽपि 76.
When seen, even the wild forest-dwellers flee from him, even if they are nearby.
तसोयत्कलतष्टतरोर्भवति भयं न चास्तीशमुपहसन्ति 76.
For him, there is no fear from the creepers or trees, nor do the lords of the land mock him.
पितॄतर्पणे पितॄणां तृप्तिर्बहुवार्षिकी भवति सलिलाग्निवैरितस्करभयानि भीमानि नश्यन्ति ॥ 76.
When offered in ancestral rites, the ancestors are satisfied for many years; the dreadful fears of water, fire, enemies, and thieves are destroyed.
शैवलबलाहकाभं पुरुषं पीतप्रभं प्रभाहीनम् 76.
A person who is dark like moss or a rain cloud, with a yellowish hue and lacking luster—
मूल्यं प्रकल्प्यमेषां विबुधवरैर्दैशकालविज्ञानात् 76.
The price of these should be determined by learned experts, according to place and time.

In Daśārṇa, Vāgadara, Mekala, Kālagā, and elsewhere, they are found with the colors of gunjā seeds, collyrium, honey, and mṛṇāla stalks.
शङ्खाब्जभृङ्गार्कविचित्रभङ्गा सूत्रैरु (र्व्य) पेताः परमाः पवित्राः 77.
With varied forms like conch, lotus, bee, and sun, strung on threads, they are supreme and pure.
काका (क.) श्वरासभसृगालवृकोग्ररूपैर्गृध्रैः समांसरुधिरार्द्रमुखैरुपेताः 77.
Accompanied by crows, jackals, wolves, and fierce forms like vultures, with faces wet with flesh and blood—
