There, indeed, are found the tender shoots of the hands of Sinhalese maidens, the tips of young sprouts, the newly blossomed grains, and the coral branches.
तत्प्रत्ययादुभयशोभनवीचिभासा विस्तारिणी जलनिधेरुपकच्छभूमिः 72.
From this, by inference, the land near the ocean, expansive and shining with the beauty of both, appears like the foam of splendid waves.
तत्रासिताब्जहलभृद्वसनासिभृंगशार्ङ्गायुधांगहरकण्ठकषायपुष्पैः 72.
There are also flowers resembling the blue lotus, the neck of a peacock, the garments of the god holding the plough, the bee, the bow, the throat of Hara, and the reddish blossoms.
अन्ये प्रसन्नपयसः पयसां निधातुरम्बुत्विषः शिखिगणप्रतिमास्तथान्ये 72.
Some are like the clear waters of pure reservoirs, some resemble the radiance of water, and others have the likeness of groups of peacocks.
एकप्रकारा विस्पष्टवर्णशोभावभासिनः 72.
They are of one kind, shining with distinctly beautiful colors.
मृत्पाषाणशिलारन्ध्रकर्करात्राससंयुताः 72.
They are associated with the fear of earthen, stony, and rocky crevices.
तत एव हि जायन्ते मणयस्तत्र सूरयः 72.
From there, indeed, are born the gems, which are praised in that place.
धार्य्यमाणस्य ये दृष्टा पद्मरागमणेर्गुणाः 72.
The qualities of the padmarāga gem, as observed when it is worn, are as follows.
यथा च पद्मरागाणां जातकत्रितयं भवेत् 72.
And thus, there are three types of origin for padmarāga gems.
परीक्षाप्रत्ययैर्यैश्च पद्मरागः परीक्ष्यते 72.
By means of examination and tests, the padmarāga gem is to be assessed.
यावन्तं च क्रमेदग्निं पद्मरागोपयोगतः 72.
To what extent it endures fire is also considered in the use of padmarāga.
तथापि न परीक्षार्थं गुणानामभि (ति) वृद्धये 72.
Even so, not for the purpose of examination, but for the increase of qualities.
अग्निमात्रापरिज्ञाने दाहदोषैश्च दूषितः 72.
If its capacity to withstand fire is not properly known, it is spoiled by the defects of burning.
काचोत्पलकरवीरस्फटिकाद्या इह बुधैः सवैदूर्य्याः 72.
Here, the wise recognize glass, blue lotus, karavīra, crystal, and similar stones, along with cat's eye gems.
गुरुभावकठिनभावावेतेषां नित्यमेव विज्ञेयौ 72.
Among these, weightiness and hardness are always to be understood.
इन्द्रनीलो यथा कश्चिद्विभर्त्त्याताम्रवर्णताम् 72.
Just as some sapphires possess a coppery hue.
यस्य मध्यगता भाति नीलस्येन्द्रायुधप्रभा 72.
The brilliance of the blue stone shines at its center like the radiance of Indra’s bow.
यस्य वर्णस्य भूयस्त्वात्क्षीरे शतगुणे स्थितः 72.
Because of the abundance of its color, it remains in milk that is a hundred times concentrated.
यत्पद्मरागस्य महागुणस्य मूल्यं भवेन्माषसमुन्मितस्य 72.
The value of a padmarāga of great quality is determined by weighing it against māṣa seeds.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे इन्द्रनीलपरीक्षणं नाम द्विसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः

कल्पान्तकालक्षुबिताम्बुराशेर्निर्ह्रादकल्पाद्दितिजस्य नादात् 73.
From the tumult of the ocean stirred at the end of the age, the sound of the demon arose.
अविदूरे विदूरस्य गिरेरुत्तुङ्गरोधसः 73.
Not far from the distant mountain with its lofty peaks.
तस्य नादसमुत्थत्वादाकरः सुमहागुणः 73.
Because of the origin of that sound, the mine possesses excellent qualities.
तस्यैव दानवपतेर्निनदानुरूपाः प्रवृट्पयोदवरदर्शित चारुरूपाः 73.
The gems of the lord of the demons, whose sound matches the thunder, are beautiful, as shown by the rain clouds.
पद्मरागमुपादाय मणिवर्णा हि ये क्षितौ 73.
Taking padmarāga as an example, the colors of gems found on earth are indeed varied.
तेषां प्रधानं शिखिकण्ठनीलं यद्वा भवेद्वेणुदलप्रकाशम् 73.
Among them, the foremost is the peacock-throat blue, or it may have the appearance of a bamboo leaf.
गुणवान्वैदूर्य्यमणिर्योजयति स्वामिनं परंभा (भो) ग्यैः 73.
A vaidūrya gem of good quality brings its master supreme brilliance among others.
