ततः प्रभृति सा गङ्गा तुल्यपुण्यफलोदया 70.
From that time onward, that river became equal to the Gaṅgā in the arising of meritorious results.
ततः प्रभृत्येव च शर्वरीषु कूलानि रत्नैर्निचितानि तस्याः 70.
And from then on, during the nights, its banks became filled with gems.
तस्यास्तटेपूज्ज्वचारुरागा भवन्ति तोयेषु च पद्मरागाः 70.
On its banks, beautiful rubies appear, and in its waters, there are padmarāga gems.
बन्धू कगुंजासकलेन्द्रगोपजवासमासृक्समवर्णशोभाः 70.
They shine with the colors of bandhūka, guñjā, indragopa, and javā flowers, and possess a uniform, splendid hue.
सिन्दुरपद्मोत्पलकुंकुमानां लाक्षारसस्यापि समानवर्णः 70.
Their color is like that of cinnabar, lotus, blue water lily, saffron, and also the resin of lac.
भानोश्च भासामनुवेधयोगामासाद्य रशमि प्रकरेण दूरम् 70.
Having come into contact with the rays of the sun, they attain a far-reaching brilliance through the union with its light.
कुसुम्भनीलव्यतिमिश्ररागप्रत्युग्ररक्ताबुजतुल्यभासः 70.
Its color is a vivid mixture of safflower red and dark blue, resembling the intense hue of a red lotus.
चकोरपुंस्कोकिलसारसानां नेत्रावभासश्च भवन्ति केचित् 70.
Some possess an appearance in the eyes like the essence of the male chakora bird and the kokila.
प्रभावकाठिन्यगुरुत्वयोगैः प्रायः समानाः स्फटिकोद्भवानाम् 70.
In brilliance, hardness, and weight, they are generally similar to those produced from crystal.
कामं तु रागः कुरुविन्दजेषु स नैव यादृक् स्फटिकोद्भवेषु 70.
Indeed, the redness in kuruvinda stones is present, but not in the same way as in those arising from crystal.
ये तु रावणगङ्गायां जायन्ते कुरुविन्दकाः 70.
Those kuruvinda gems that are born in the Ravana Ganga river—
वर्णानुयायिनस्तेषा मान्ध्रदेशे तथा परे 70.
Their color follows accordingly, both in the Mandhra region and elsewhere.
तथैव स्फाटिकोत्थानां देशे तुम्बुरुसंज्ञके 70.
Likewise, those produced from crystal are found in the region known as Tumburu.
वर्णाधिक्यं गुरुत्वं च स्निग्धता समताच्छता 70.
Excess of color, heaviness, smoothness, and perfect clarity—
ये कर्करच्छिद्रमलोपदिग्धाः प्रभाविमुक्ताः परुषा विवर्णाः 70.
Those that are marked by cracks, holes, dirt, lacking luster, rough, or discolored—
दोषोपसृष्टं मणिमप्रबोधाद्विभर्त्ति यः कश्चन कञ्चिदेव 70.
Any gem that, due to defects, displays only a little of its natural brilliance—
कामं चारुतराः पंच जातीना प्रतिरूपकाः 70.
Though they may be exceedingly beautiful, some are imitations of the five types.
कलशपुरोद्भवसिंहलतुम्बुरुदेशोत्थमुक्तपाणीयाः 70.
Those produced in the regions of Kalasha, Purodbhava, Simhala, and Tumburu, as well as the Muktapani area—
तुषोपसर्गात्कलशाभिधानमाताम्रभावादपि तुम्बुरूत्थम् 70.
Because of the presence of husk, it is called Kalasha; due to a coppery hue, it is known as Tumburu.
श्रीपूर्णकं दीप्तिविनाकृतत्वाद्विजातिलिङ्गाश्रय एव भेदः 70.
Śrīpūrṇaka is so named due to lack of brilliance; the distinction lies only in the sign of its type.
स्नेहप्रदिग्धः प्रतिभाति यश्च यो वा प्रघृष्टः प्रजहाति दीप्तिम् 70.
That which is smeared with oil appears so, and one that is much rubbed loses its luster.
संप्राप्य चोत्क्षिप्य यथानुवृत्तिं विभर्तियः सर्वगुणानतीव प्राप्यापि रत्नाकरजा स्वजातिं लक्षेद्गुरुत्वेन गुणेन विद्वान् ॥ 70.
Having obtained and examined it according to its qualities, one should discern its nature by weight and merit, even if it is a jewel from the ocean.
अप्रणश्यति सन्देहे शाणे तु परिलेखयेत् 70.
If there is doubt, it does not perish; one should test it by rubbing on a touchstone.
वज्रं वा कुरुविन्दं वा विमुच्यानेन केनचित् 70.
Whether it is a diamond or a kuruvinda, it is revealed by this method.
जात्यस्य सर्वेऽपि मणेर्न जातु विजातयः सन्ति समानवर्णाः 70.
All jewels of the same kind are never of different types; they are of the same color.
गुणोपपन्नेन सहावबद्धोमेणिर्न धार्यो विगुणो हि जात्या 70.
A jewel lacking in quality should not be worn, even if it is of a good lineage; only one endowed with virtues is to be accepted.
चाण्डाल एकोऽपि यथा द्विजातीन्समेत्य भूरीनपि हन्त्ययत्नात् 70.
Just as a single outcaste, coming among twice-born men, can easily destroy even many of them without effort,
सपत्नमध्येऽपि कृताधिवासं प्रमादवृत्तावपि वर्त्तमानम् 70.
Even when placed among rivals, or when behaving carelessly,
दोषोपसर्गप्रभवाश्च ये ते नोपद्रवास्तं समभिद्रवन्ति 70.
The afflictions that arise from faults do not attack him.
वज्रस्य यत्तण्डुलसंख्ययोक्तं मूल्यं समुत्पादितगौरवस्य 70.
