असृजन्मनसा दक्षः प्रजाः पूर्वं चतुर्विधाः 6.
Dakṣa first created, by his mind, four kinds of beings.
मैथुनेन ततः सृष्टिं कर्त्तुमैच्छत्प्रजापतिः 6.
Then the lord of creatures desired to create by sexual union.
तस्य पुत्रसहस्त्रं तु वैरण्यां समपद्यत 6.
A thousand sons were born to him from Vairiṇī.
दक्षपुत्रसहस्त्रं च तेषु नष्टेषु सृष्टवान् 6.
When those sons of Dakṣa were lost, he created another thousand.
दक्षः क्रुद्धः शशापाथ नारदं जन्म चाप्स्यसि 6.
Angry, Dakṣa then cursed Nārada, 'You will be born again.'
यज्ञे ध्वस्तेऽथ दक्षोऽपि शशापोग्रं महेश्वरम् 6.
When the sacrifice was destroyed, Dakṣa also fiercely cursed Maheśvara.
जन्मान्तरेऽपि वैरेण ते विनश्यन्ति शङ्कर ! असिक्न्यां (महिष्यां) जनयामास दक्षो दुहितरो ह्यथ ।। 6.
Even in another birth, out of enmity, they perish, O Śaṅkara! Then Dakṣa begot daughters from Asiknī, his queen.
षष्टिं कन्या रूपयुता द्वे चैवांगिरसे ददौ 6.
He gave sixty beautiful daughters, and two to Aṅgiras.
चतुर्दश कश्यपाय अष्टाविंशातिमिन्दवे 6.
Fourteen were given to Kaśyapa, and twenty-eight to the Moon.
मनोरमां भानुमतीं विशालां बहुदामथ 6.
Manoramā, Bhānumatī, Viśālā, and Bahudā were then bestowed.
स कृशाश्वाय च प्रादात्सुप्रजां च तथा जयाम् 6.
He gave Kṛśāśva Suprajā and also Jayā.
सङ्कल्पा च मुहूर्त्ता च साध्या विश्वा च ता दश 6.
Saṅkalpā, Muhūrttā, Sādhyā, and Viśvā—these ten.
अदितिर्दितिर्दनुः काला ह्यनायुः सिंहिका मुनिः 6.
Aditi, Diti, Danu, Kāla, Anāyu, Siṃhikā, and Muni.
विश्वेदेवास्तु विश्वायाः साध्या साध्यान्व्यजायत 6.
The Viśvedevas were born from Viśvā, and the Sādhyas from Sādhyā.
भानोस्तु भानवो रुद्र ! मुहूर्त्ताच्च मुहूर्त्तजाः 6.
From Bhānu came the Bhānavas, O Rudra; from Muhūrttā, the Muhūrttajas.
पृथिवीविषयं सर्वमरुत्वत्यां व्यजायत 6.
All that pertains to the earth was born from Marutvatī.
आपो ध्रुवश्च सोमश्च धरश्चैवानिलोऽनलः 6.
Water, Dhruva, Soma, Dhara, wind, and fire.
आपस्य पुत्रो वेतुण्डिः (ण्डः) श्रमः श्रान्तो ध्वनिस्तथा 6.
From Āpa came Vetundi, Śrama, Śrānta, and Dhvani.
सोमस्य भगवान्वर्च्चा वर्च्चस्वी येन जायते 6.
From Soma, the blessed Varcā, and Varcasvī, by whom brilliance is born.
मनोहरायां शिशिरः प्राणोऽथ रमणस्तथा 6.
From Manoramā came Śiśira, Prāṇa, and also Ramaṇa.
अविज्ञातगतिश्चैव द्वौ पुत्रावनिलस्य तु 6.
Two sons of Anila are Avijñātagati and another.
तस्य शाखो विशाखश्च नैगमेयश्च पृष्टतः 6.
His branches are Śākha, Viśākha, and Naigameya behind.
प्रत्यूषस्य विदुः पुत्रमृषिं नाम्ना तु देवलम् 6.
They know the son of Pratyūṣa as the sage named Devala.
अजैकपादहिर्बुध्न्यस्त्वष्टा रुद्रश्च वीर्य्यवान् 6.
Ajaikapāda, Ahirbudhnya, Tvaṣṭṛ, and Rudra, mighty in strength.
हरश्च बहुरूपश्च त्र्यम्बकश्चापराजितः 6.
Hara, Bahurūpa, Tryambaka, and Aparājita.
मृगव्याधश्च शर्वश्च कपाली च महामुने ! 6.
Mṛgavyādha, Śarva, Kapālī, O great sage!
अदित्यां कश्यपाच्चैव सूर्य्या द्वादश जज्ञिरे 6.
From Aditi and Kaśyapa, twelve sons were born to Sūrya.
विवस्वान्सविता चैव मित्रो वरुण एव च 6.
These are Vivasvat, Savitṛ, Mitra, and also Varuṇa.
सप्तविंशतिः सोमस्य पत्न्यो नक्षत्रसंज्ञिताः 6.
Soma had twenty-seven wives, known as the Nakṣatras.
सिंहिका चाभवत्कन्या विप्रचित्तिपरिग्रहा 6.
And Siṃhikā became a daughter, taken by Vipracitti.
