अहन्यहनि यत्किञ्चिद्दीयतेऽनुपकारिणे 51.
Whatever is given each day to one who offers nothing in return—
यत्तु पापोपशान्त्यै च दीयते विदुषां करे 51.
And what is given into the hands of the learned for the removal of sin—
अपत्यविजयैश्वर्य्यस्वर्गार्थं यत्प्रदीयते 51.
Whatever is given for the sake of offspring, victory, wealth, or heaven—
ईश्वरप्रीणनार्थाय ब्रह्मावित्सुप्रदीयते 51.
And what is given to knowers of Brahman for the sake of pleasing the Lord—
इक्षुभिः सन्ततां भूमिं यवगोधूमशालिनीम् 51.
Land sown with sugarcane, barley, wheat, or rice—
भूमिदानात्परं दानं न भूतं न भविष्यति 51.
There has never been, nor will there be, a gift greater than the gift of land.
दद्यादहरहस्तास्तु श्रद्धया ब्रह्मचारिणे 51.
One should give daily, with one’s own hands and with faith, to a celibate student.
वैशाख्यां पौर्णमास्यां तु ब्राह्मणान्सप्त पञ्च च 51.
On the full moon of Vaiśākha, to seven or five brāhmaṇas—
गन्धादिभिः समभ्यर्च्य वाचयेद्वा स्वयं वदेत् 51.
After worshipping with incense and the like, one should have them recite or recite oneself.
यावज्जीवं कृतं पापं तत्क्षणादेव नश्यति 51.
Whatever sin has been committed throughout life is destroyed instantly.
ददाति यस्तु विप्राय सर्वं तरति दुष्कृतम् 51.
Whoever gives to a brāhmaṇa crosses over all evil deeds.
निर्दिश्य धर्मराजाय विप्रेभ्यो मुच्यते भयात् 51.
By designating it for the Lord of Dharma, one is freed from fear by giving to brāhmaṇas.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो नरो भवति निश्चितम् 51.
A man becomes completely freed from all sins—this is certain.
ब्राह्मणान्पूजयेद्दत्नाद्भोजयेद्योषितः सुरान् 51.
One should honor brāhmaṇas with gifts, feed women, and the gods.
ब्रह्मवर्चसकामस्तु ब्राह्मणान्ब्रह्मनिश्चयात् 51.
One who desires the radiance of Brahman should, with firm resolve, honor the brāhmaṇas.
कर्मणां सिद्धिकामस्तु पूजयेद्वै विनायकम् 51.
One who seeks success in actions should indeed worship Vināyaka.
मुमुक्षुः सर्वसंसारात्प्रयत्नेनार्चयेद्धरिम् 51.
One who wishes for liberation from all worldly existence should diligently worship Hari.
वारिदस्तृप्तिमाप्नोति सुखमक्षय्यमन्नदः 51.
The giver of water attains satisfaction, and the giver of food attains endless happiness.
भूमिदः सर्वमाप्नोति दीर्घमायुर्हिरण्यदः 51.
The giver of land attains everything, and the giver of gold attains long life.
वासोदश्चान्द्रसालोक्यमश्विसालोक्यमश्वदः 51.
The giver of garments attains the world of the Moon; the giver of horses attains the world of the Aśvins.
यानशय्याप्रदो भार्य्यामैश्वर्य्यमभयप्रदः 51.
The giver of vehicles and beds attains a wife; the giver of wealth grants fearlessness.
वेदवित्सु ददज्ज्ञानं स्वर्गलोके महीयते 51.
To one who desires knowledge of the Vedas, giving bestows wisdom, and he is honored in the heavenly world.
इन्धनानां प्रदानेन दीप्ताग्निर्जायते नरः 51.
By giving fuel, a man obtains a blazing fire.
ददानो रोगरहितः सुखी दीर्घायुरेव च 51.
The giver becomes free from disease, happy, and indeed long-lived.
तीक्ष्णातपं च तरतिच्छत्रोपानत्प्रदो नरः 51.
A man who gives sandals or umbrellas crosses over intense heat.
तत्तद्गुणवते देयं तदेवाक्षयमिच्छता 51.
One who desires inexhaustible merit should give to those who possess the corresponding qualities.
संक्रान्त्यादिषु कालेषु दत्तं भवति चाक्षयम् 51.
Gifts made at times such as solstices and similar occasions become inexhaustible.
दानधर्मात्परो धर्मो भूतानां नेह विद्यते 51.
There is no greater dharma among beings here than the dharma of giving.
दीयमानं तु यो मोहाद्गोविप्राग्निसुरेषु च 51.
But whatever is given out of delusion to cows, brāhmaṇas, fire, or gods—
यस्तु दुर्भिक्षवेलायामन्नाद्यं न प्रयच्छति 51.
And he who does not give food during a time of famine—
