धर्मं रुद्रं मनुं चैव सनकं च सनातनम् 5.
Dharma, Rudra, Manu, and also Sanaka the eternal one.
मरीचिमत्र्यङ्गिरसौ पुलस्त्यं पुलहं क्रतुम् 5.
Marīci, Atri, Aṅgiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Kratu.
अग्निष्वात्तांश्च कव्यादानाज्यपांश्च सुकालिनः 5.
The Agniṣvāttas, the Kavyādhas, and the Ajyapās, all of good times.
चतुरो मूर्त्तियुक्तांश्च अंगुष्ठाद्दक्षमीश्वरम् 5.
And the four endowed with form, and from the thumb, the lord Dakṣa.
तस्यां तु जनयामास दक्षो दुहितरः शुभाः 5.
In her, Daksha begot auspicious daughters.
रुद्र पुत्रा बभूवुर्हि असंख्याता महाबलाः 5.
Rudra's sons were indeed countless and of great might.
भृगोर्धाताविधातारौ जनयामास सा शुभा 5.
That auspicious one gave birth to Dhata and Vidhata from Bhrigu.
तस्यां वै जनयामास बलोन्मादौ हरिः स्वयम् 5.
In her, Hari himself begot Bala and Unmada.
धाताविधात्रोस्ते भार्य्ये तयोर्जातौ सुतावुभौ 5.
Dhata and Vidhata had wives, and to them were born two sons.
पत्नी मरीचेः सम्भूतिः पौर्णमासमसूयत 5.
Sambhuti, the wife of Marichi, gave birth to Paurnamasa.
स्मृतेश्चांङ्गिरसः पुत्राः प्रसूताः कन्यकास्तथा 5.
From Smriti were born the sons of Angiras, and likewise daughters.
अनसूया तथैवात्रेर्जज्ञे पुत्रानकल्मषान् 5.
Similarly, Anasuya bore sinless sons to Atri.
प्रीत्यां पुलस्त्यभार्य्यायां दत्तोलिस्तत्सुतोऽभवत् 5.
In Priti, the wife of Pulastya, Dattoli was born as a son.
क्षमा तु सुषुवे भार्य्या पुलहस्य प्रजापतेः 5.
Kshama, the wife of Pulaha the progenitor, indeed gave birth.
षष्टिर्यानि सहस्त्राणि ऋषीणामूर्द्धरेतसाम् 5.
There were sixty thousand sages born from the mind.
ऊर्ज्जायां तु वसिष्टस्य सप्ताजायन्त वै सुताः 5.
In Urjja, seven sons were indeed born to Vasishtha.
सुतपाः शुक्र इत्येते सर्वे सप्तर्षयोऽमताः 5.
Sutapa and Shukra—these are all considered the seven sages.
तस्मात्स्वाहा सुताँल्लेभे त्रीनुदारौजसो हर ! 5.
From them, O Hara, Svaha obtained three sons of great energy.
पितृभ्यश्च स्वधा जज्ञे मेनां वैतरणीं तथा 5.
From the Pitrs, Svadha was born, as well as Mena and Vaitarani.
मैनाकं जनयामास गौरीं पूर्वं तु या सती 5.
She who was formerly Sati gave birth to Mainaka and Gauri.
आत्मानमेव कृतवान्प्रजापाल्यं मनुं हर ! 5.
O Hara, Prajapati himself made Manu, the protector of creatures, from his own self.
स्वायम्भुवो मनुर्देवः पत्नीत्वे जगृहे विभुः 5.
The divine Svayambhuva Manu, the lord, accepted a wife.
प्रियव्रतोत्तानपादौ प्रसूत्याकूतिसंज्ञिते 5.
Priyavrata and Uttānapāda were born to Prasūti and Ākūti.
प्रसूतिं चैव दक्षाय दवहूतिं च कर्दमे 5.
Prasūti was given to Dakṣa, and Devahūti to Kardama.
अभवन्द्वादश सुता यामो नाम महाबलाः 5.
There were twelve sons, powerful ones called the Yāmas.
श्रद्धा चला धृतिस्तुष्टिः पुष्टिर्मेधा क्रिया तथा 5.
Śraddhā, Calā, Dhṛti, Tuṣṭi, Puṣṭi, Medhā, and also Kriyā—
पत्न्यर्थं प्रतिजग्राह धर्मो दाक्षायणीप्रभुः 5.
For the sake of a wife, Dharma, the lord, accepted the daughters of Dakṣa.
सन्नतिश्चानसूया च ऊर्ज्जा स्वाहा स्वधा तथा 5.
Sannati, Anasūyā, Ūrjjā, Svāhā, and Svadhā as well—
पुलस्त्यः पुलहश्चैव क्रतुश्चर्षिवरस्तथा 5.
Pulastya, Pulaha, and also Kratu, the foremost of sages—
ख्यात्याद्या जगृहुः कन्या मुनयो मुनिसत्तमाः 5.
The eminent sages accepted the daughters, beginning with Khyāti.
