The Vedic vow, the Vāmadeva, the Jyeṣṭhasāman, and the Rathantara.
And the Atharvaśirasa, and the Kumbhasūkta of the Atharva Veda.
The teacher should especially sprinkle the altar with the weapon-mantra.
Bringing forth Jātavedas, he should place it at the front.
Then, the teacher, having made it like nectar, with all the mantras—
Indeed, by the Vaiṣṇava method of yoga, he should cast forth the supreme radiance.
With a common mantra, or with one prescribed by his own tradition—
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Hara, and Īśāna are to be worshipped with the common mantra.
Even one who lacks a mantra is purified by being touched with darbha grass and water.
When fire is surrounded by spread-out darbha grass, it itself becomes present.
Some teachers desire it immediately after the birth-rite and so on.
Then the teacher, having examined it, should consecrate the clarified butter with mantras.
Then, having offered five sets of five oblations with ghee—
With mantras prescribed by his own scripture, and with the praṇava, he should perform the offering.
Thus, the fire that is produced in this way grants success in all rites.
To Indra and the others, with their own mantras, likewise a hundred oblations each.
Then, the officiant should place his own oblation among the ghee offerings in that vessel.
Having made himself single-minded, then he should cause the full (offering) to be given.
For beings, for gods, and for nāgas, according to the rite—
Ghee is the assistant for both, and the principal when it is in their respective vessels.
And the Jyeṣṭha-sāman and Bhāruṇḍa are to be led in the western direction.
Having offered a thousand oblations to each god, he should establish them on the head.
He should offer oblations at the places of the head, and also enter them in order.
Or, O twice-born ones, he may use those prescribed in his own scriptures, or the Gāyatrī.
Having thus performed the rite of oblation, the teacher should place the mantras.
‘Agni, come!’—on both shanks; ‘May the gods grant us well-being’—on the knees.
‘Long life to you’—on the heart; ‘Splendor to you’—on the throat, he should place.
‘Become the head’—on the head likewise; after placing, he should perform the homa.
With the words ‘Veda’, ‘Auspicious day’, he should circumambulate the temples.
He should also honor the guardians of the directions, along with gems, metals, and herbs.
