इमम्मेगङ्गेमन्त्रेण नेत्रयोः शीतलक्रिया 48.
With the mantra 'imam me gaṅge', the cooling rite for the two eyes.
बिल्वोदुम्बरमश्वत्थं वटं पालाशमेव च 48.
Bilva, udumbara, ashvattha, banyan, and palasha as well.
पञ्चगव्यं स्नापयेच्च सहदेव्यादि भिस्ततः 48.
One should bathe with five products of the cow, together with sahadevi and others thereafter.
कुमारी च गुडूची च सिंही व्याघ्री तथैव च 48.
Kumari, guduchi, simhi, and vyaghri likewise.
याः फलिनीति मन्त्रेण फलस्नानं विधीयते 48.
With the mantra 'yāḥ phalinī', the fruit-bathing rite is prescribed.
कलशेषु च विन्यस्य उत्तरादिष्वनुक्रमात् 48.
Placing in the pots, from the north onward, in order.
समुद्रांश्चैव विन्यस्य चतुरश्चतुरो दिशः 48.
And having placed the oceans in the four directions,
आप्यायस्व दधिक्राव्णो याऔषधीरितीति च 48.
And reciting, 'Increase, O Dadhikrāvan, O herbs,' as well.
समुद्राख्यैश्चतुर्भिश्च स्नापयेत्कलशैः पुनः 48.
He should again bathe (the image) with four vessels named after the oceans.
अभिषेकाय कुम्भेषु तत्तत्तीर्थानि विन्यसेत् 48.
For the consecration, he should place in the pots the various sacred waters.
याओषधीति मन्त्रेण कुम्भं चैवाभिमन्त्रयेत् 48.
With the mantra 'Oṣadhi,' he should also sanctify the pot.
अभिषिच्य समुद्रैश्च त्वर्घ्यं दद्यात्ततः पुनः 48.
After anointing with the ocean waters, he should then again offer arghya.
स्वशास्त्रविहितैः प्राप्तैर्युवंवस्त्रेति वस्त्रकम् 48.
With garments obtained according to one's own scriptures, saying 'You are youthful,'
शम्भवायेति मन्त्रेण शय्यायां विनिवेशयेत् 48.
With the mantra 'For Śambhu,' he should arrange (the garments) on the bed.
स्थित्वा चैव परे तत्त्वे मन्त्रन्यासं तु कारयेत् 48.
And standing in the supreme principle, he should perform the placement of mantras.
वस्त्रेणाच्छादयित्वा तु पूजनीयः स्वभावतः 48.
Having covered (the image) with cloth, it should naturally be worshipped.
अथ प्रणवसंयुक्तं वस्त्रयुग्मेन वेष्टितम् 48.
Then, wrapped with a pair of garments together with the praṇava (Om),
स्थित्वा कुण्डसमीपेऽथ अग्नेः स्थापनमाचरेत् 48.
Standing near the altar, he should then establish the fire.
श्रीसूक्तं पावमान्यं च वासदाम्यसवाजिनम् 48.
He should recite the Śrīsūkta, the Pāvamānya, and the Vāsadāmya and Asavajin hymns.
रुद्रं पुरुषसूक्तं च श्लोकाध्यायं च शुक्रियम् 48.
The Rudra, the Puruṣasūkta, and the Śukriya hymn of verses and chapters.
वेदव्रतं वामदेव्यं ज्येष्ठसाम रथन्तरम् 48.
The Vedic vow, the Vāmadeva, the Jyeṣṭhasāman, and the Rathantara.
अथर्वशिरसं चैव कुम्भसूक्तमथर्वणः 48.
And the Atharvaśirasa, and the Kumbhasūkta of the Atharva Veda.
कुण्डं चास्त्रेण संप्रोक्ष्य आचार्य्यस्तु विशेषतः 48.
The teacher should especially sprinkle the altar with the weapon-mantra.
जातवेदसमानीय अग्रतस्तं निवेशयेत् 48.
Bringing forth Jātavedas, he should place it at the front.
अमृतीकृत्य तं पश्चान्मन्त्रैः सर्वैश्च देशिकः 48.
Then, the teacher, having made it like nectar, with all the mantras—
वैष्णवेन तु योगेन परं तेजस्तु निः क्षिपेत् 48.
Indeed, by the Vaiṣṇava method of yoga, he should cast forth the supreme radiance.
साधारणेन मन्त्रेण स्वसूत्रविहितेन वा 48.
With a common mantra, or with one prescribed by his own tradition—
ब्रह्मविष्णुहरेशानाः पूज्याः साधारणेन तु 48.
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Hara, and Īśāna are to be worshipped with the common mantra.
दर्भतोयेन संस्पृष्टो मन्त्रहीनोऽपि शुध्यति 48.
Even one who lacks a mantra is purified by being touched with darbha grass and water.
विततैर्वेष्टितो वह्निः स्वयं सान्निध्यमाव्रजेत् 48.
When fire is surrounded by spread-out darbha grass, it itself becomes present.
