ईषेत्वेतिहि मन्त्रेण दक्षिणस्यां द्वितीयकम् 48.

With the mantra 'īṣetveti', place the second vessel in the south.

शन्नोदेवीति मन्त्रेण उत्तरस्यां चतुर्थकम् 48.

With the mantra 'śanno devī', place the fourth vessel in the north.

याम्यां वै कृष्णरूपा तु नैर्ऋत्या श्यामला (धूसरा) भवेत् 48.

In the south-west, it should be of dark form like Kṛṣṇa; in the north-west, it should be dark-grey (or dusky).

उत्तरे रक्तवर्णा तु शुक्लैशी च पताकिका 48.

In the north, it should be red in color, and the flag should be white.

आग्निं संसुप्तिमन्त्रेण यमोनागेति दक्षिणे 48.

With the mantra 'āgniṃ saṃsuptim', and 'yamonāga', place (the vessel) in the south.

वात इत्यभिषिच्याथ आप्यायस्वेति चोत्तरे 48.

Having consecrated with 'vāta', then with 'āpyāyasva', place (the vessel) in the north.

कलशौ तु ततो द्वौ द्वौ निवेश्यौ तोरणान्तिके 48.

Then, two vessels each should be placed near the gateways.

पुष्पैर्वितानैर्बहुलैरादिवर्णाभिमन्त्रिताः 48.

They should be adorned with abundant flowers and canopies, and consecrated with the primary colors.

त्रातारमिन्द्रभन्त्रेण अग्निर्मूर्द्धेति चापरे 48.

With the Indra-protecting mantra 'trātāram indra', and with 'agnir mūrdhā', place the others.

किञ्चेदधातु आचत्वाऽभित्वादेति च सप्तमी 48.

With the mantra 'kiñcid adhātu', and 'ācatvā'bhitvā', place the seventh vessel.

होमद्रव्याणि वायव्ये कुर्य्यात्सोपस्कराणि च 48.

In the north-west, one should prepare the offerings for the fire, along with the necessary implements.

आलोकनेन द्रव्याणि शुद्धिं यान्ति न संशयः 48.

By being seen (or inspected), the substances become purified—there is no doubt.

अस्त्रं चैव समस्तानां न्यासोऽयं सर्वकामिकः 48.

This placement of the weapon (astra) is for all, and fulfills every desire.

विष्टरेण स्पृशेद्दुव्यान्यागमण्डपसंभृतान् 48.

With a cloth, one should touch the vessels that have been brought into the sacrificial pavilion.

शाक्रीं दिशमथारभ्य यावदीशानगोचरम् 48.

Beginning from the Śākra direction, up to the domain of Īśāna, (perform the rite).

गन्धाद्यैरर्घ्यपात्रे च मन्त्रग्रामं न्यसेद्गुरुः 48.

With fragrant substances and the arghya vessel, the teacher should place the group of mantras.

प्रतिष्ठा यस्य देवस्य तदाख्यं कलशं न्यसेत् 48.

For the deity whose installation is being performed, the vessel bearing that name should be placed.

कलशं वर्द्धनीं चैव ग्रहान्वास्तोष्पतिं तथा 48.

The pot, the vessel of growth, and likewise the planets, as well as the lord of the dwelling.

सूत्रग्रीवं रत्नगर्भं वस्त्रयुग्मेन वेष्टितम् 48.

A pot with a neck bound by a thread, filled with jewels, wrapped with a pair of cloths.

देवस्तु कलशे पूज्यो वर्द्धन्या वस्त्रमुत्तमम् 48.

The deity is to be worshipped in the pot, with the vessel of growth and the finest cloth.

वर्द्धनीधारया सिञ्चन्नग्रतो धारयेत्ततः 48.

Sprinkling with the vessel of growth, one should then place it in front.

घटं चावाह्य वायव्यां गणानां त्वेति सद्गणम् 48.

Having invoked the pot in the northwest, one should address the assembly of deities as the noble group.

वास्तोष्पतीति मन्त्रेण वास्तुदोषोपशान्तये 48.

With the mantra 'vāstoṣpati', for the pacification of faults in the dwelling.

पठेदिति च विद्याश्च कुर्य्यादालम्भनं बुधः 48.

He should recite thus, and the wise one should perform the ritual of support.

ऋत्विग्भिः सार्द्धमाचार्यः स्नानपीठे गुरुस्तदा 48.

Together with the priests, the teacher at that time, at the bathing seat, acts as the guru.

कृत्वा ब्रह्मरथे देवं प्रतिष्ठन्ति ततो द्विजाः 48.

Having placed the deity in the chariot of Brahma, the twice-born then establish it.

भद्रंकर्णेत्यथ स्नात्वा सूत्रवल्कलजेन तु 48.

Reciting 'bhadraṃ karṇa', and then, having bathed, with thread or bark garments.

मधुसर्पिः समायुक्तं कांस्ये वा ताम्रभाजने 48.

With honey and clarified butter mixed together, in a bronze or copper vessel.

अग्निर्ज्योतीति मन्त्रेण नेत्रोद्वाटं तु कारयेत् 48.

With the mantra 'agnir jyoti', one should perform the opening of the eyes.
