शेषमंशं विजानीयाद्देवलस्य मतं यथा 46.
One should understand the remaining portion according to the opinion of the deity.
यच्छेषं तद्भवेज्जीवं मरणं भूतहारितम् 46.
Whatever remains, that becomes life; death is caused by what is taken by beings.
वामपार्श्वेन स्वपिति नात्र कार्य्या विचारणा 46.
He sleeps on his left side; in this there is no need for deliberation.
एवं च वृश्चिकादौ स्यात्पूर्वदक्षिणपश्चिमम् 46.
In the same way, for the scorpion and others, the order is east, south, and west.
सन्तानप्रेष्यनीचत्वं स्वयानं स्वर्णभूषणम् 46.
Progeny, sending, inferiority, one's own vehicle, and golden ornaments.
वह्नौ वध(बन्ध)श्चायुर्वृद्धिंपुत्त्रलाभसुतृप्तिदः 46.
In fire, there is killing or binding, increase of lifespan, gain of sons, and satisfaction of children.
नृपभीतिर्मृतापत्यं ह्यनपत्यं न वैरदम् 46.
Fear of the king, death of offspring, childlessness, and not causing enmity.
द्वाराण्युत्तरसंज्ञानि पूर्वद्वाराणि वच्म्यहम् 46.
The doors are known as northern; I will now speak of the eastern doors.
राजघ्नं कोपदं पूर्वे फलतो द्वारमीरितम् 46.
The eastern door is said to yield the fruit of slaying a king and causing anger.
नैर्ऋत्यादौ पश्चिमं स्याद्वायव्यादौ तु चोत्तरम् 46.
In the southwest, there is the western door; in the northwest, there is the northern door.
अश्वत्थप्लक्षन्यग्रोधाः पूर्वादौ स्यादुदुम्बरः पूजितो विघ्नहारी स्यात्प्रासादस्य गृहस्य च ।। 46.
The aśvattha, plakṣa, and banyan trees are in the east; the udumbara is also there. When worshipped, it removes obstacles for the palace and the house.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे वास्तुमानलक्षणं नाम षट्चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Garuda Mahapurana, in the first section of the Purva-khanda, in the conduct section, is the forty-sixth chapter named 'The Characteristics of Vastu Measurement.'
प्रासादानां लक्षणं च वक्ष्ये शौनक तच्छृणु 47.
Now I will describe the characteristics of palaces; listen to this, O Shaunaka.
चतुष्कोणं चतुर्भिश्च द्वाराणि सूर्य्यसंख्यया 47.
It should be quadrangular, with four doors, corresponding to the number of the sun.
ऊर्द्ध्वक्षेत्रसमा जङ्घा जङ्घार्धद्विगुणं भवेत् 47.
The thigh should be equal to the upper field; half the thigh should be twice as much.
तत्त्रिभागेन कर्त्तव्यः पञ्चभागेन वा पुनः 47.
It should be made in three parts, or again in five parts.
चतुर्द्धा शिखरं कृत्वा त्रिभागे वेदिबन्धनम् 47.
Divide the summit into four parts, and construct the altar enclosure in three parts.
अथ वापि समं वास्तुं कृत्वा षोडशभागिकम् 47.
Alternatively, make the base level and divide it into sixteen parts.
चतुर्भागेन भित्तीनामुच्छ्रायः स्यात्प्रमाणतः ।। 47.
The height of the walls should be measured as one fourth of the total.
द्विगुणः शिखरोच्छ्रायो भित्त्युच्छायाच्च मानतः 47.
The height of the summit should be twice the measured height of the walls.
चतुर्दिक्षु तथा ज्ञेयो निर्गमस्तुः तथा बुधैः 47.
In the four directions, the exit should likewise be understood by the wise.
भागमेकं गृहीत्वा तु निर्गमं क्लपयेत्पुनः 47.
Taking one part, the exit should again be planned accordingly.
एतत्सामान्यमुद्दिष्टं प्रासादस्य हि लक्षणम् 47.
This general description has been given for the characteristics of a palace.
द्विगुणेन भवेद्रर्भः समन्ताच्छौनक ध्रुवम् 47.
The perimeter should be twice as much all around, O Shaunaka, without fail.
द्विगुणं शिखरं प्रोक्तं जङ्घायाश्चैव शौनक 47.
The summit is said to be twice the height of the leg, O Shaunaka.
निर्गमस्तु समाख्यातः शेषं पूर्ववदेव तु 47.
The exit has been described; the rest should be as previously stated.
कराग्रं वेदवत्कृत्वा द्वारं भागाष्टमं भवेत् 47.
Make the tip like the altar, and the door should be one eighth part.
द्वारवत्पीठमध्ये तु शेषं शुषिरकं भवेत् 47.
In the middle of the pedestal, as with the door, the rest should be hollow.
तद्विस्तारसमा जङ्घा शिखरं द्विगुणं भवेत् 47.
The leg should be equal in breadth, and the summit should be twice as high.
मण्डपे मानमेतत्तु स्वरूपं चापरं वदे 47.
This is the measurement for the pavilion; I will now describe another form.
