O wide-eyed one, the greatness of Kalāvittha is seen on earth. Here, one should bathe and give the highest charity. Then, having attained knowledge, one goes to the world of Vishnu.
Because the teacher approached another's wife, the moon entered Ahalyā; Hari did so. Because of drinking liquor, Śukra did so; because of stealing gold, Bali did so.
Because of killing a Brahmin, Rudra did so; because of taking what was given, the serpent did so; because of killing a charioteer, Rāma was freed here, O beautiful one.
There has never been, nor will there be, a holy place equal to this. Bathe here, O greatly fortunate one, and you will surely attain perfection.
The maiden, together with her father, the sage Jaigīṣavya, performed the prescribed bath here, O beautiful one.
As long as the Puruṣa Sūkta was recited, they remained there; afterwards, having recited the great mantra named after Veṅkaṭeśa, the supreme Lord—
She pleased the twice-born with garments, wealth, and ornaments; then the goddess went to the excellent holy place called Kamārī.
Having heard of the greatness of Kumārī, she bathed there; then the goddess returned, O beautiful one, to the river called Virajā.
Seeing Jaigīṣavya, the guru and lord, the goddess asked: 'O best of Brahmins, what is the name of this place? What should I do here? Tell me.'
Thus questioned, Jaigīṣavya, the ocean of compassion, spoke: 'O maiden, this is the Bhāgīrathī, which flows here within.'
Therefore, the great sages call this the Inner Gaṅgā. O maiden, may the water here always be dear to Śrīnivāsa.
Whoever bathes here attains the highest state. The maiden bathed in these supremely pure waters.
Having performed charity and other rites, and having recited the supreme mantra, the illustrious maiden returned to the presence of Śrīnivāsa.
She circumambulated Lord Veṅkaṭa with devotion, and pleased the Brahmins and others with garments, perfumes, and ornaments.
Again, on the next morning, she bathed in the water of the Lord's lake, O greatly fortunate one, and went to the place called Tuṃburu.
The goddess asked her guru, 'O lord, what is the name of this place?' Jaigīṣavya said: 'This is known as Tuṃbarukā, a woman of excellent complexion.'
Formerly, Nārada, together with Tuṃburu, practiced austerity here; at this place, Viṣṇu appeared for the benefit of Nārada.
Whoever bathes here attains the highest state. In this age of Kali, bathing here is difficult for all people.
Here, bathing yields little merit for people of small austerity; but there, after bathing, drinking, and giving gifts, one becomes free from sin.
The goddess returned and bowed to Śrīnivāsa; on that day, O radiant one, she satisfied the Brahmins.
Reaching the sacred pond of the Lord, the blessed lady lit lamps; on the steps, with rows of lamps, she joyfully pleased the Lord of gods, Śrīnivāsa, the teacher of the world.
Again, when the next day arrived, she went to the supreme Śakra tīrtha; in the region called Kapila, that tīrtha is remembered as purifying.
There, the blessed lady bathed and then herself performed ablutions; the lake of Viṣvasena there destroys all sins.
After that, the blessed lady went further and saw the tīrthas of the five weapons; she bathed in those places.
Beyond that is the fire altar, difficult to ascend; above it is the Brahma tīrtha, which releases from the sin of killing a Brahmin.
Above that is the sacred tīrtha of the seven sages, bestowing holy fruits; each successive tīrtha grants ten times the merit of the previous.
Who indeed is worthy to speak of the greatness of these? At the sages' tīrthas, that maiden performed supreme austerity.
Having practiced supreme austerity until my descent, she abandoned her body through yoga and was born in the house of Jāmbavat.
She was born as Jāmbavatī and grew up in his home; her father Jāmbavat then gave her as a maiden; she is the wife of Rukmī's rival, O king of birds, and thus my wife.
This is the supreme account of Veṅkaṭādri, the great mountain; who else on earth is able to describe it besides me?
