वृश्चिकाकारमत्स्यस्तु पदोस्तस्य प्रशस्यते । श्वाकारश्चापि मत्स्यो वै मुखे तस्य प्रकीर्तितः
A fish in the shape of a scorpion is praised at the foot; a fish in the shape of a dog is said to be at the mouth.
हस्ते तु बहुरेखाः स्युर्लोम नासापुटे स्मृतम् । अतिदीर्घं तु चाङ्गुष्ठं कनिष्ठं चातिदीर्घकम्
On the hand, many lines may be present; hair is remembered at the nostrils; the thumb is very long, and the little finger is also very long.
दुर्लक्षणं त्वेवमादि कलावस्ति ह्यनेकशः । सुलक्षणान्यनेकानि मयि संति खगेश्वर
Thus, difficult marks exist in many forms in the Kali age; there are also many auspicious marks in me, O Lord of Birds.
द्वात्रिंशल्लक्षणं विष्णोर्ब्रह्माद्यापेक्षयैव तत् । सहाभिप्राय गर्भेण ब्रह्मणोक्तं तव प्रभो
The thirty-two marks of Vishnu are as stated in relation to Brahma and others; with intention and in the womb, this was spoken by Brahma to you, O Lord.
ब्रह्मोक्तस्य मयोक्तस्य विरोधो नास्ति सत्तम । मयोक्तस्यैव स व्यासः कंबुग्रीवः प्रदर्श्यते
There is no contradiction, O best one, between what was spoken by Brahma and by me; the Vyasa I have described is the one with a conch-shaped neck.
रक्ताधरं रक्त तालु चैकीकृत्य मयोदितम् । अतो विरोधो नास्त्येव तथा ज्ञानात्प्रतीयते
Red lips and red palate, as I have stated, are united; therefore, there is truly no contradiction, as is understood by knowledge.
सप्ताधिकैर्विंशतिलक्षणैस्तु समायुता याः स्त्रियो लक्ष्मणाद्याः
Those women, such as Lakshmana and others, are endowed with twenty-seven distinctive marks.
भगे नेत्रे च हस्ते च स्तने कुक्षौ तथैव च । भारत्यपेक्षया पञ्चभिर्न्यूना त्वस्ति लक्षणैः
On the yoni, eyes, hands, breasts, and abdomen as well—compared to Bharati, there are five fewer marks present.
न रुद्रवन्न चान्यानि लक्षणानि खगेश्वर । षड्विंशत्या लक्षणैश्चापि युक्ता वारुण्याः षड्लक्षणैश्चैव हीना

On the hands, feet, abdomen, ears, penis, ankles, and lower lip there is an excess; the atheistic wind is endowed with twenty-four marks, and likewise deficient by eight.
नाभ्यां गुल्फे हनुरर्ङ्घ्योश्च स्कन्धे द्विजे नेत्रे त्वधरोष्ठेधिकं च । त्रयोविंशत्या लक्षणैश्चापि युक्ता शची तथा नवदोषैश्च युक्ता
On the navel, ankle, chin, thighs, shoulder, teeth, eyes, and lower lip there is an excess; Shachi is endowed with twenty-three marks and also possesses nine faults.
भगे केशे ह्यधरोष्ठे च कर्णे जङ्घे गण्डे वक्षसि गुल्फयोश्च । तथोत्तरोष्ठे किञ्चिदाधिक्यमस्ति एवं विजानीहि खगेन्द्रसत्तम

द्वाविंशत्या लक्षणैः संयुतस्तु दशभिर्देषैः प्रवहो नाम वायुः । तथाङ्गुष्ठे किञ्चिदाधिक्यमस्ति विंशत्येकादशभिर्देषतोर्कः
The wind called Pravaha is endowed with twenty-two marks and ten faults; likewise, there is a slight excess on the thumb. The sun has thirty-one faults.
तद्विंशत्या लक्षणैः संयुतस्तु तदा दोषेर्द्वादशभिश्च युक्तः । एकोनविंशत्या लक्षणैश्चापि युक्तस्त्रयोदशभिस्तदभावैर्युतोग्निः
He is endowed with twenty marks and twelve faults; Agni is endowed with nineteen marks and thirteen faults, and is without those faults.
अष्टादशभिर्लक्षणैः संयुतस्तु वैवस्वतस्तदभावैश्चतुर्दशभिः । मित्रस्तु सप्तदशभिर्लक्षणैः संयुतः खग
Vaivasvata is endowed with eighteen marks and is without fourteen faults; Mitra, O bird, is endowed with seventeen marks.
सदोषैः पञ्चदशभिः संयुक्तो नात्र संशयः । तैश्च षोडशभिर्युक्तो धनपो नात्र संशयः
He is endowed with fifteen faults—of this there is no doubt; and with sixteen, he is the lord of wealth—of this there is no doubt.
तदभावैः षोडशभिः संयुक्तः संप्रकीर्तितः । तैः पञ्चदशभिश्चैव युक्तोग्रेज्येष्ठपुत्रकः
He is said to be endowed with sixteen absences of faults; and with fifteen, he is the eldest son.
तैः सप्तदशभिर्दोषैः संयुक्तो नात्र संशयः । तैश्चतुर्दशभिश्चैव गङ्गा संपरिकीर्तिता
He is endowed with seventeen faults—of this there is no doubt; and with fourteen, Ganga is described.
तथाष्टादशभिर्दोषैः संयुता नात्र संशयः । तैस्त्रयोदशभिश्चैव संयुतो बुध एव तु
She is endowed with eighteen faults—of this there is no doubt; and with thirteen, it is indeed Budha who is endowed.
दोषैरेकोनविंशत्या संयुतो नात्र संशयः । शनिर्विंशतिदोषेण युतो द्वादशलक्षणैः
He is endowed with nineteen faults—of this there is no doubt; Shani is endowed with twenty faults and twelve marks.
लक्षणैश्चैकादशभिः पुष्करः परिकीर्तितः । एकविंशतिसंख्याकैरसद्भावैः प्रकीर्तितः
Pushkara is described as endowed with eleven marks; he is said to be characterized by the absence of twenty-one.
दशभिर्लक्षणैर्युक्ताः पितरो ये चिराः खग । त्रयोविंशतिदोषैश्च संयुता नात्र संशयः
The long-lived ancestors, O bird, are endowed with ten marks; they are also endowed with twenty-three faults—of this there is no doubt.
अष्टभिर्लक्षणैर्युक्ता देवगन्धर्वसत्तमाः । दोषैश्चतुर्विंशतिभिः संयुक्ताः परिकीर्तिताः
The best of the gods and Gandharvas are endowed with eight marks; they are described as endowed with twenty-four faults.
सप्तलक्षणसंयुक्ता गन्धर्वा मानुषात्मकाः । यैस्तु पञ्चविंशतिभिर्दोषैः संयुक्ताः प्रकीर्तिताः
The Gandharvas, who possess seven distinguishing marks and have human nature, are described as being associated with twenty-five faults.
षद्गुणैः क्षितिपा युक्ता षड्विंशत्या च दोषतः । तदन्ये पञ्चभिर्युक्ताश्चतुर्भिः केचिदेव च
Kings are endowed with six virtues and twenty-six faults; others are associated with five, and some with only four.
त्रिभिः केच्चित्ततो हीना न संति खगसत्तम । यस्मिन्नरे क्षितिपे वा खगेन्द्र आधिक्यं यद्दृश्यते लक्षणस्य
Some possess only three, and those with fewer than that do not exist, O best of birds; in whichever man or king, O king of birds, an excess of marks is seen—
न ते नरा नैव ते वै क्षितीशाः सर्वे नैव ह्युत्तमाः सर्वदैव । ये देवा ये च दैत्याश्च सर्वेप्येवं खगाधिप
They are not truly men, nor are they truly kings, nor are they ever the best at any time; whether gods or demons, O lord of birds, all are thus.
लक्षणालक्षणैश्चैव क्रमेणोक्ता न संशयः । लक्षणैः सप्तविंशत्यालक्षणैः संयुताः खग
The marks and the absence of marks have been described in order, without doubt; O bird, those who are endowed with twenty-seven marks and their opposites—
अतः सलक्षणा ज्ञेया द्वात्रिंशल्लक्षणैर्न हि । पितुर्गृहे वर्धमाना सदापि स्वकुटुंबं श्रेष्ठयितुं खगेन्द्र
Therefore, those possessing marks should be known as having thirty-two marks; even while growing up in their father's house, O king of birds, they always bring prosperity to their own family.
