गायत्त्र्या चार्चितं तेन देवं संपूज्य दापयेत् 43.
Having worshipped the deity with the Gāyatrī, one should offer it to him.
विशुद्धग्रन्थिकं रम्यं महापातकनाशनम् 43.
It should be a pure, well-made thread, beautiful and destroyer of great sins.
एवं धूपादिनाभ्यर्च्य मध्यमादीन्त्समर्पयेत् 43.
Thus, having worshipped with incense and the like, one should offer the middle and other threads.
धर्मकामार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं स्वकंठे धारयाम्यहम् 43.
For the attainment of righteousness, desire, and wealth, I wear it on my own neck.
नैवेद्यं विविधं दत्त्वा कुसुमादेर्बलिं हरेत् 43.
Having given various offerings of food, one should present a bali of flowers and the like.
अष्टोत्तरशतेनैव दद्यादेकपवित्रकम् 43.
With one hundred and eight, one should give a single sacred thread.
विष्वक्सेनं ततः प्रार्च्य सुरुमर्घ्यादिभिर्हर 43.
Then, having worshipped Viṣvaksena, one should offer him water for washing and other honors.
ज्ञानतोऽज्ञानतो वापि पूजनादि कृतं मया 43.
Whether knowingly or unknowingly, whatever worship and the like has been done by me—
मणिविद्रुममालभिर्मन्दारकुसुमादिभिः 43.
With garlands of gems and coral, and with mandāra flowers and the like—
वनमाला यथा देव कौस्तुभं सततं हृदि 43.
O Lord, may the forest garland always remain in the heart like the Kaustubha gem.
एवं प्रार्थ्य द्विजान् भोज्य दत्त्वा तेभ्यश्च दक्षिणाम् 43.
Thus, having prayed, one should give food to the twice-born and also give them gifts.
सांवत्सरीमिमां पूजां सम्पाद्य विधिवन्मया 43.
Having properly performed this annual worship,
पूजयित्वा पवित्राद्यैर्ब्रह्म ध्यात्वा हरिर्भवेत् 44.
Having worshipped with sacred threads and the like, meditating on Brahman, one becomes Hari.
यच्छेद्वाङ्मनसं प्राज्ञस्तं यजेज्ज्ञानमात्मनि 44.
The wise should restrain speech and mind, and worship that knowledge within the self.
देहेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिप्राणाहङ्करावर्जितम् 44.
Free from body, senses, mind, intellect, breath, and ego—
स्वप्रकाशं निराकारं सदानं दमनादि यत् 44.
Self-luminous, formless, eternal, and the source of self-control and the rest—that is to be known.
तुरीयमक्षरं ब्रह्म अहमस्मि परं पदम् 44.
The fourth, imperishable syllable is Brahman; I am that supreme state.
आत्मानं रथिनं विद्धि शरीरं रथमेव तु इन्द्रियाणि हयानाहुर्विषयास्तेषु गोचराः ।। 44.
Know the self as the charioteer, the body indeed as the chariot; the senses are said to be the horses, and the objects their fields of activity.
आत्मेंद्रियमनोयुक्तो भोक्तेत्याहुर्मनीषिणः 44.
The wise declare that the self, joined with mind and senses, is the experiencer.
स तु तत्पदमाप्नोति स हि भूयो न जायते 44.
He attains that state, and he is not born again.
स्वर्धुन्याः पारमाप्नोति तद्विष्णोः परमं पदम् 44.
He reaches the far shore of the celestial river—that is the supreme abode of Viṣṇu.
आसनं पद्मकाद्युक्तं प्राणायामो मरुज्जयः 44.
The posture is with the lotus and other seats; breath control is mastery over the wind.
मनोधृतिर्धारणा स्यात्समाधिर्ब्रह्मणि स्थितिः 44.
Concentration is the holding of the mind; absorption is abiding in Brahman.
हृत्पद्मकर्णिकामध्ये शङ्खचक्रगदाब्जवान् 44.
In the center of the lotus of the heart, he bears the conch, discus, mace, and lotus.
नित्यः शुद्धो भूतियुक्तः सत्यानन्दाह्वयः परः 44.
He is eternal, pure, endowed with glory, called Truth and Bliss, the supreme.
चतुर्विंशतिमूर्त्तिः स शालग्रामशिलास्थितः 44.
He is of twenty-four forms, abiding in the śālagrāma stone.
मनसोऽभीप्सितं प्राप्य देवो वैमानिको भवेत् 44.
Having attained what the mind desires, the devotee becomes celestial.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे ब्रह्ममूर्तिध्याननिरूपणं नाम चतुश्चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the Śrī Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa, in the First Section called Ācārakāṇḍa, the forty-fourth chapter named 'Description of Meditation on the Form of Brahman' [ends].
प्रसङ्गात्कथयिष्यामि शालग्रामस्य लक्षणम् 45.
By way of connection, I shall describe the characteristics of the śālagrāma.
शङ्खचक्रगदापद्मी (हस्तः) (केशवाख्यो) गदाधरः 45.
He who holds the conch, discus, mace, and lotus (called Keśava), the bearer of the mace.
