Garuda Purana

अनन्तरं संबभूव गरुडस्तु ततः परम् । दिव्यसाहस्रवर्षात्तु तथा रुद्रञ्च सृष्टवान् ॥ ३,१३.

Immediately after Shesha, Garuda came into being; and after a divine thousand years, he likewise created Rudra.

शेषस्यानन्तरं देवीं वारुणीं च महाप्रभुः । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु ह्यसृजत्कमलासनः ॥ ३,१३.

After Shesha, the great Lord created the goddess Varuni; and after ten years, Kamalasana (Brahma) created her.

गरुडानन्तरं देवीं सौपर्णीमसृजत्प्रभुः । दशवर्षानन्तरं च पार्वतीं च तथैव सः ॥ ३,१३.

After Garuda, the Lord created the goddess Sauparni; and after ten years, he likewise created Parvati.

पार्वत्यनन्तरं चन्द्रं मनस्तत्त्वनियामकम् । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु वासवं ह्यसृजत्ततः ॥ ३,१३.

After Parvati, he created the Moon, the regulator of the mind principle; and after ten years, he then created Vasava (Indra).

अभिमानी दक्षिणस्य बाहोश्च परमेष्ठिनः । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु शची तामसृजत्प्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.

The presiding deity of the southern arm of the Supreme Lord, after ten years, the Lord created Shachi.

इन्द्रस्यानन्तरं कामं त्रिंशद्वर्षादनन्तरम् । असृजद्वामबाहोश्चमनस्तत्वाभिमानिनम् ॥ ३,१३.

After Indra, after thirty years, he created Kama, the presiding deity of the left arm and the mind principle.

तदनन्तरजां देवीं दशवर्षादनन्तरम् । रतिं स जनयामास कामभार्यां महाप्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.

After that, after ten years, the Lord generated the goddess Rati, the wife of Kama.

कामस्याप्यभिमानी तु स एव परिकीर्तितः । ब्रह्माहङ्कारिकं प्राणं कार्योत्पत्तेरनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

The presiding deity of Kama is also thus declared; Brahma created the vital breath associated with ego, immediately after the production of effects.

दशवर्षानन्तरं तु निर्ममे नासिक ततः । तस्य भार्यां नासिकस्यः पञ्चवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

After ten years, he then created Nasika (the nose); and after five years, he created the wife of Nasika.

निर्ममे नासिकां वामां ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः । अहङ्कारादनु ब्रह्मा सज्ञानं च बृहस्पतिम् ॥ ३,१३.

Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds, created the left nostril; after ego, Brahma also created knowledge and Brihaspati.

निर्ममे च वर्षयुग्मपञ्चवर्षादनन्तरम् । पञ्चवर्षानन्तरं तु तारां भार्यां विनिर्ममे ॥ ३,१३.

After a pair of years and five years, he created; and after five years, he created Tara as the wife.

गुरोरनन्तरं ब्रह्मा पञ्चविंशादनन्तरम् । स्वायंभुवं मनुं चैव निर्ममे मनसा विभुः ॥ ३,१३.

After the Guru, after twenty-five years, the Lord mentally created Svayambhuva Manu.

पञ्चवर्षानन्तरं तु शतरूपां विनिर्ममे । शतरूपानन्तरं तु विंशद्वर्षदिनान्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

After five years, he created Shatarupa; and after Shatarupa, after a period of twenty years and days.

दक्षः शिष्यात्मको जज्ञे दक्षिणाङ्गुष्ठतः प्रभोः । पञ्चवर्षानन्तरं तु वामाङ्गुष्ठाच्चतुर्मुखः ॥ ३,१३.

Daksha, as a disciple-son, was born from the right thumb of the Lord; and after five years, from the left thumb, the four-faced one (Brahma).

प्रसूतिमसृजद्ब्रह्मा सृष्ट्यर्थं परमादरात् । दक्षस्यानन्तरं ब्रह्मा पञ्चविंशादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

Brahma, with great reverence, created Prasuti for the purpose of creation; after Daksha, Brahma, after twenty-five years.

निर्ममे ह्यनिरुद्धं च मध्यमाङ्गुलिपर्वतः । पञ्चवर्षानन्तरं तु ससर्ज भगवानजः ॥ ३,१३.

Indeed, from the middle joint of his middle finger, he created Aniruddha; and five years later, the divine Unborn one brought him forth.

विराजसंज्ञकां भार्यां मध्यमाङ्गुलिपर्वतः । अनिरुद्धानन्तर तु शतवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

From the middle joint of the middle finger, he created a wife named Viraja; and after Aniruddha, one hundred years later.

निर्ममे प्रवहं वायुं कनिष्ठाङ्गुलिपर्वतः । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु प्रवाहीं निर्ममे प्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.

From the joint of his little finger, he created Pravaha, the wind; and ten years later, the Lord created Pravahi.

कनिष्ठाङ्गुलिपर्वाच्च वामदेवं न संशयः । प्रवहानन्तरं तब्रह्मा शतवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

And from the joint of the little finger, without doubt, he created Vamadeva; after Pravaha, Brahma did so one hundred years later.

यमं विनिर्ममे पृष्ठादष्टवर्षादनन्तरम् । तद्भार्यां शामलां देवीं तस्मादेव महाप्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.

Eight years later, from his back, he created Yama; and from him, the great Lord created his wife, the goddess Shamala.

यमस्यानन्तरं चन्द्रं त्रिंशद्वर्षादनन्तरम् । असृजद्दक्षिणाच्छोत्राच्छोत्रतत्त्वनियामकम् ॥ ३,१३.

Thirty years after Yama, he created the Moon from his right ear, the regulator of the principle of hearing.

नववर्षानन्तरं तु रोहिणीसमृजत्प्रभुः । वामश्रोत्राच्च गरुडं वामश्रोत्राभिमानिनम् ॥ ३,१३.

Nine years later, the Lord created Rohini; and from his left ear, Garuda, the one identified with the left ear.

चन्द्रस्यानन्तरं सूर्यं विंशद्वर्षादनन्तरम् । सम्यग्विनिर्ममे ब्रह्मा दक्षिणाक्ष्णश्च देवताम् ॥ ३,१३.

Twenty years after the Moon, Brahma properly created the Sun, the deity of the right eye.

वामाक्ष्णो निर्ममे संज्ञां षड्वर्षानन्तरं प्रभुः । सूर्यस्यानन्तरं ब्रह्मा शतवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

Six years after, from the left eye, the Lord created Samjna; and one hundred years after the Sun, Brahma did so.

रसनेन्द्रियाच्च वरुणं निर्ममे तस्य मानिनम् । विंशद्वर्षानन्तरं तु तस्मादेवेद्रियात्प्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.

From the organ of taste, he created Varuna, who is identified with it; and twenty years later, from that very sense organ, the Lord created him.

गङ्गां विनिर्ममे ब्रह्मा रसनेन्द्रियदेवताम् । वरुणस्यानन्तरं तु दशवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

Brahma created Ganga, the deity of the organ of taste; and ten years after Varuna, he did so.

उत्संगान्निर्ममे ब्रह्मा नारदं भगवत्प्रियम् । नारदस्यानन्तरं तु षष्टिवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

From his lap, Brahma created Narada, beloved of the Blessed Lord; and sixty years after Narada, he did so.

अग्निं विनिर्ममे ब्रह्मात्वगिन्द्रियतः प्रभुः । अतो वागभिमानी सं पञ्चवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.

Brahma created Agni from the organ of touch; and five years later, he created the one identified with speech.

स्वाहां विनिर्ममे ब्रह्मा तामाहुर्मन्त्रदेवताम् । अग्नेरनन्तरं वीन्द्र भृगुं ब्रह्मर्षिसत्तमम् ॥ ३,१३.

Brahma created Svaha, who is said to be the deity of mantras; after Agni, O Indra, he created Bhrigu, the most excellent of Brahmarshis.
