तस्माच्छतगुणैर्हीनः शतधन्वा महासुरः । समानस्तस्य विज्ञेयः कर्मारिर्दैत्यसत्तमः ॥ ३,१२.
Therefore, the great asura Śatadhanvan, who is deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is to be understood as equal in action to the foremost among the Daityas, the enemy of the gods.
कालकेयस्तु विज्ञेयः सदा वेनसमो मतः । अधमानां तु दैत्यानामुत्तमैः साम्यमुच्यते ॥ ३,१२.
Kālakeya is always considered equal to Vena; among the lowest of the Daityas, equality with the highest is declared.
तत्रावेशाच्च विज्ञेयं देवानां नात्र संशयः । तस्माच्छतगुर्णैहीनश्चित्तमानसुरो महान् ॥ ३,१२.
There, due to possession, it is to be known without doubt that the gods are present; therefore, the great asura of mind, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is so.
तच्छरीराभिमानी तु तस्माच्छतगुणैर्वरः । तस्माच्छतगुणैहींनो हस्तमानसुरो महान् ॥ ३,१२.
He who is attached to the body is therefore superior by a hundredfold qualities; the great asura of the hand, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is thus.
तस्माच्छतगुणैर्हीनः पादमानसुरो महान् । नेत्रेन्द्रियाभिमानी तु तस्माच्छतगुणो वरः ॥ ३,१२.
The great asura of the foot, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is thus; but he who is attached to the sense of sight is superior by a hundredfold qualities.
चक्षुरिन्द्रियमानी तु तस्माच्छतगुणो वरः । तस्माच्छगुणैर्हीनः स्पर्शमानसुरो महान् ॥ ३,१२.
He who is attached to the sense of vision is superior by a hundredfold qualities; the great asura of touch, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is thus.
तस्माच्छतगुर्णैहीनश्चण्डमानसुरो महान् । तस्माच्छतगुर्णैर्हीनः शिश्रमानसुरो महान् ॥ ३,१२.
The great asura of anger, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is thus; the great asura of cold, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is thus.
तस्माच्छतगुणैर्हीनः कर्ममानसुरः स्मृतः । कल्पाद्यैः प्रेरिताः सर्वे रुद्राद्या अधिकारिणः ॥ ३,१२.
The asura of action, deprived of a hundredfold qualities, is remembered as such; all the authorities like Rudra and others are impelled by the Kalpa and so on.
कदाचित्सुविरुद्धं च कुर्वन्ति तव सत्तम । कदाप्यहं च वायुश्च विरुद्धं नाचरेव भोः ॥ ३,१२.
O best of beings, sometimes they act in opposition to you; but I and Vāyu never act in opposition, O lord.
मूलेष्वंशावतारेषु रुद्रादीना महाप्रभो । बुद्धिर्विनश्यते यस्मात्तस्माच्छिन्ना हि तेऽखिलाः ॥ ३,१२.
In the roots, in the partial incarnations of Rudra and others, O great lord, since intellect is lost, therefore all of them are indeed cut off.
महीपते च मद्बुद्धिस्तस्मादच्छिन्नसंज्ञिकः । एतादृशोप्यहं देव न च शक्तिस्तु नस्तवे ॥ ३,१२.
O king, my intellect is therefore unbroken in designation; even so, O god, I do not have the power to praise you.
मह्यमच्छिन्नभक्ताय दयां कुरु महाप्रभो । इति स्तुत्वा हरिं ब्रह्मा स्थितः प्राञ्ज लिरग्रतः ॥ ३,१२.
O great lord, show compassion to me, who am devoted without interruption; having thus praised Hari, Brahmā stood respectfully before him.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १३ श्रीकृष्ण उवाच । इति स्तुतः स भगवान् स्वपूत्रेण दयानिधिः । मेधगंभीरया वाचा प्रोवाच मधुसूदनः ॥ ३,१३.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: Thus praised by his own son, the Lord, the ocean of compassion, Madhusūdana, spoke with words deep in wisdom.
सृज ब्रह्मन्निमान्देवान्मत्प्रसादात्क्रमेण च । यथा वै प्राक्क्षणेतद्वत्सृज सर्वं महाप्रभो ॥ ३,१३.
Create these gods, O Brahman, in order, by my grace; just as before, O great lord, create everything in this way.
नास्ति प्रयोजनं तेन तव मत्प्रीतये सृज । एवमुक्तस्तु हारिणा ब्रह्मा स्तुत्वा हरिं परम् ॥ ३,१३.
There is no purpose in that, but for my satisfaction, create; thus addressed by Hari, Brahmā praised the supreme Hari.
सृष्टिं कर्तुं मनो दध्रे प्रीणयन्नेव माधवम् । महत्तत्वात्मको ब्रह्मा वायुं जीवभिमानिनम् ॥ ३,१३.
To perform creation, Brahmā fixed his mind, pleasing Mādhava; Brahmā, whose essence is the great principle, regarded Vāyu as the one identified with the living being.
आदौ ससर्ज गरुड पुरुषात्मा स एव च । ततो दक्षिणहस्तात्तु ब्रह्माणीं भारन्ती तथा ॥ ३,१३.
At first, he created Garuḍa, who is the embodiment of the person; then, from his right hand, he created Bhāraṇī, and likewise—
ब्रह्मणो दक्षिणाद्धस्तादहङ्कारात्मको हरः । आदौ शेषस्ततो जज्ञे गरुडतदनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.
From Brahmā's right hand arose Hara, whose essence is ego; first Śeṣa was born, and then Garuḍa immediately after.
तदनन्तरजो रुद्रः स एवं सृष्टवान्प्रभुः । स्वोत्पत्त्यनन्तरं ब्रह्मा दशवर्षान्महाप्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.
Immediately after that, Rudra himself, the Lord, thus created; and after his own emergence, Brahma, the great Lord, for ten years.
वायुमुत्त्पाद्रयामास वत्सरानन्तरे प्रभुः । गायत्रीं जनयामास वायोरुत्पत्त्यनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.
After a year had passed, the Lord caused Vayu to arise; and immediately after the birth of Vayu, he generated Gayatri.
संवत्सरानन्तरे तु भारतीमसृजत्प्रभुः । भारत्यनन्तरं शें दिव्यसाहस्रवत्सरात् ॥ ३,१३.
Then, after a year, the Lord created Bharati; and after Bharati, after a divine thousand years, he created Shesha.
अनन्तरं संबभूव गरुडस्तु ततः परम् । दिव्यसाहस्रवर्षात्तु तथा रुद्रञ्च सृष्टवान् ॥ ३,१३.
Immediately after Shesha, Garuda came into being; and after a divine thousand years, he likewise created Rudra.
शेषस्यानन्तरं देवीं वारुणीं च महाप्रभुः । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु ह्यसृजत्कमलासनः ॥ ३,१३.
After Shesha, the great Lord created the goddess Varuni; and after ten years, Kamalasana (Brahma) created her.
गरुडानन्तरं देवीं सौपर्णीमसृजत्प्रभुः । दशवर्षानन्तरं च पार्वतीं च तथैव सः ॥ ३,१३.
After Garuda, the Lord created the goddess Sauparni; and after ten years, he likewise created Parvati.
पार्वत्यनन्तरं चन्द्रं मनस्तत्त्वनियामकम् । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु वासवं ह्यसृजत्ततः ॥ ३,१३.
After Parvati, he created the Moon, the regulator of the mind principle; and after ten years, he then created Vasava (Indra).
अभिमानी दक्षिणस्य बाहोश्च परमेष्ठिनः । दशवर्षानन्तरं तु शची तामसृजत्प्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.
The presiding deity of the southern arm of the Supreme Lord, after ten years, the Lord created Shachi.
इन्द्रस्यानन्तरं कामं त्रिंशद्वर्षादनन्तरम् । असृजद्वामबाहोश्चमनस्तत्वाभिमानिनम् ॥ ३,१३.
After Indra, after thirty years, he created Kama, the presiding deity of the left arm and the mind principle.
तदनन्तरजां देवीं दशवर्षादनन्तरम् । रतिं स जनयामास कामभार्यां महाप्रभुः ॥ ३,१३.
After that, after ten years, the Lord generated the goddess Rati, the wife of Kama.
कामस्याप्यभिमानी तु स एव परिकीर्तितः । ब्रह्माहङ्कारिकं प्राणं कार्योत्पत्तेरनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.
The presiding deity of Kama is also thus declared; Brahma created the vital breath associated with ego, immediately after the production of effects.
दशवर्षानन्तरं तु निर्ममे नासिक ततः । तस्य भार्यां नासिकस्यः पञ्चवर्षादनन्तरम् ॥ ३,१३.
After ten years, he then created Nasika (the nose); and after five years, he created the wife of Nasika.
