From them, the Deva attendants are a hundred times more blissful, and chiefly serve the gods; these groups are always commanded directly by the gods themselves.
The Deva-Gandharvas have been described, and from them come the hundred generations; from them, the kings are to be known, and those inferior are multiplied by hundreds.
From them, the best groups among humans are known to be a hundred times greater; having spoken thus of those related, I now return to the main subject; thus, Brahmā and other gods, as well as Lakṣmī and others, exist in every way.
Having praised, all stood silently with hands joined, O twice-born.
Thus praised, the lord of the gods, the imperishable Hari, considered in his mind how to grant them a dwelling place.
This is pure, health-giving, virtuous, and destroys sin; it brings the favor of Hari and leads to happiness in one's true nature.
But those humans here who do not recite this hymn, O Brāhmaṇas, or do not listen to it daily, are all deluded.
Those wicked men who do not remember it within, yet partake of food, always consume excrement, constantly accompanied by hundreds of worms.
Garuḍa said: Thus praised by the gods, Bhagavān Viṣṇu, lord of the Sāttvatas, what kind of abode did he grant them, and how did the great lord enter?
I wish to know this, O Kṛṣṇa, O great lord; kindly tell me fully, if my ears are worthy.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: In those essences, Bhagavān, the great lord, entered; Bhagavān Hari, lacking connection, stirred them.
At first, Bhagavān created the cosmic egg, composed of atoms, measuring fifty crore yojanas in every direction.
Above that is a portion of the cosmic egg, golden in form, and above it lies a surface extending fifty crore leagues.
Thus, a hundred crore portions are described as its parts, and then it is entirely encircled by seven coverings.
The first covering, called Kabandha, measures ten thousand crores; the second covering is said to be that of the great soul, Fire.
The third covering, belonging to the great soul Hara, is surrounded on all sides by Water, ten times greater.
Encircled on all sides by a layer ten times greater than that of Fire, the fourth covering is said to be that of Ether, O great lord.
In the same way, encircled on all sides by a layer ten times greater than that of Hara, the fifth covering is known as that called Ego.
Encircled on all sides by a layer ten times greater than that of Ether, the sixth covering is declared to be the principle of Mahat, O lord of birds.
Encircled on all sides by a layer ten times greater than that of Ego, the seventh covering is said to be the covering of the three qualities, O lord.
From the Mahat principle, a covering ten times greater is described, and immediately after Mahat, the covering of Tamas is remembered.
From the Mahat principle, a covering five times greater is described, and from that, a covering twice as great is known as the covering of Rajas.
Then, a covering twice as great is known as the highest covering of Sattva; and these three, when combined, are said to form a single covering.
Immediately after that is declared the unmanifest space, called Avyakrita, without any boundary, where the imperishable Hari abides.
The eighth covering of space is the river Viraj, extending five yojanas in width, encircling on all sides.
It is known as the most sacred, the destroyer of worldly existence; thus, O egg-born one, even the four-faced one rejoices there.
All of them, having bathed properly in the river Viraj and having abandoned the subtle body, thereafter attain liberation in Hari.
Know that only those who journey together with Brahma, possessing direct vision, can cross Viraj; none others, O son of Vinata.
O Brahman, for those with direct vision, such as Vyasa and others, there is no crossing of Viraj, O lord of birds, because of the necessity to experience the results of their actions.
Only together with Virincha, in this kalpa, for those who are qualified, is there, by rule, the complete exhaustion of all begun karma.
