Listen, O seeker, to the wisdom revealed through the signs and marks upon the human body, for they speak silently of a person’s destiny, character, and fortune. It is said that men whose palms are depressed are destined to suffer the loss of ancestral wealth. Kings who have hands that are cut or are noisy in their manner are deprived of their riches. Those whose teeth are prominent and uneven are themselves uneven in nature, reflecting instability within. Men addicted to other women, whose teeth are yellow and rough, are regarded as destitute, lacking in prosperity and contentment. If a person is without nails, or if their nails are deformed or discolored, know that such a one belongs to others, not to themselves. Certain lines and features reveal the feminine nature: a woman is indicated by lines at the base of the thumb and by long finger joints. One whose fingers are thick and who possesses wealth will have three lines upon the palm. If a man bears the mark of two fish, he is one who gives gifts, but does so with a sense of shame or hesitation. In kings, auspicious marks such as a conch, an umbrella, a palanquin, an elephant, or a lotus are found upon their person. Those wealthy in cattle are marked by the sign of a rope, while a king of men bears the svastika. The one who is rich in sacrifices is marked by a mortar, and a sacrificer bears the mark of an altar. Lines at the base of the thumb indicate sons, and fine lines suggest the presence of daughters. These lines bestow long life, yet if such a line is broken, there is a fear of death, particularly from a tree. Men with fleshy lips possess wealth, while kings have lips that are reddish in hue. Those whose teeth are irregular are poor; but teeth that are smooth, thick, and beautiful are considered auspicious. A smooth and long palate is favorable, but if the palate is white, it indicates a loss of wealth. For kings, the palate should be pure and smooth; the opposite brings suffering. The wealthy have a palate that is round and curved, while those without possessions have a long one. A sunken and crooked palate is found in those without children, and a short one belongs to the unfortunate. A closely set, unseparated tip of the beard, combined with a red beard, reveals a thief. Those with fleshless, flattened ears enjoy little in life, and the unfortunate have short ears. Large ears are the mark of wealthy kings. A sensualist is known by sunken cheeks, while a wise man has full cheeks. One whose nose tip is cut or has a well is fond of inappropriate intercourse. If a person’s nose is pressed down by death, he becomes dependent on the fortunate. If the right side of a cruel person’s face is crooked, and for the strong, a single sneeze occurs, certain omens are revealed. Those whose eyes are slanted at the ends and resemble lotus petals are destined for happiness. Cruelty is found in those whose eyes are like a peacock’s, and impurity in those with green eyes. Deep-set eyes belong to lords, and large eyes to ministers. It is said that those with black pupils will have their eyes plucked out. Eyes that are moist and large indicate enjoyment, while small and raised eyes portend a short life. Fortunate are those with thick, long, and closely joined brows, and brows raised like the crescent moon. Those attached to women who are easily accessible are deprived of sons. Men with brows resembling a half-moon may be both poor and wealthy, experiencing the dualities of life. Raised veins and marks like a svastika are signs of the lords of wealth. Those with covered foreheads are miserable, while those with raised foreheads are destined to be kings. Abundant tears and pitiful, harsh weeping, though sorrowful, ultimately bring happiness. Frequent, loud laughter is inauspicious and foretells many kinds of madness. Kingship is marked by four distinct signs, and such a one enjoys a lifespan of ninety-five years. Finally, a man whose hair reaches to the ends will live for eighty years. Thus, O wise one, do the ancient sages reveal the hidden truths inscribed upon the human form, guiding those who seek to understand destiny and virtue.
