When, in the form of Vāmana, the kingdom was taken by the god Viṣṇu,
The kingdom was seized from Bali, to fulfill the gods' desire.
Bhārgava said: Invisible to all beings, he moves about in hiding, as if fearful.
Once, by Vāsava, Bali took the form of a donkey.
Bali was questioned in many ways by Vāsava at that time.
You will be the enjoyer of all worlds and the ruler of the Daityas; hearing these words, King Bali,
Spoke to Śakra: What sorrow is there here, O Śatakratu?
Thus, I am established in the form of a donkey, due to the influence of time.
And so, afflicted today, I remain bearing the form of a donkey.
Time indeed acts as it wishes, in whatever way; thus, having made a noble agreement, Bali and the lord of the gods.
They regained consciousness as they wished and returned to their proper places.
All the worlds, with gods, demons, and humans, are under the control of destiny.
The journey of the demons to the netherworld upon the narration of the Goddess. Vyāsa said: Hearing the words of the great-souled Bhārgava, Prahlāda, the delight of kings, became very pleased.
Knowing destiny to be powerful, Prahlāda then said to them: Even if battle is waged, victory will never come.
Then those demons, proud of their strength, replied: A battle must be fought—do we not know what destiny is?
O lord of the demons, destiny is said to be supreme, but who has seen it, where has it been seen, what is it like, and by whom was it created?
Therefore, we will fight now, relying on our own strength. O best of Daityas, you are wise and all-knowing.
Thus addressed by them, O King, Prahlāda, the destroyer of mighty foes, became their general and challenged the gods to battle.
When the gods saw the demons assembled there for battle, all the gods, fully equipped, engaged them in combat.
Then a terrible battle took place between Śakra and Prahlāda, lasting a full hundred years, astonishing the sages.
While the great war was ongoing, the demons, protected by Śukra and led by Prahlāda, gained victory, O King.
Then, by the instruction of his teacher, Indra remembered in his mind the supreme Goddess, bestower of liberation and destroyer of all suffering.
Indra said: Victory to you, O Goddess, great enchantress, bearer of the trident, O Ambikā! With conch, discus, mace, lotus, and sword in hand, you grant fearlessness.
Salutations to you, O Lady of the worlds, initiator of the vision of power, embodiment of the ten principles, Mother, form of the great bindu.
O you who are the form of the great Kuṇḍalinī, embodiment of existence, consciousness, and bliss, knower of the sacrificial fire of breath, salutations to you, whose essence is the flame of the lamp.
Dwelling within the five sheaths, O Mother, whose form is the Brahman at the base of the spine, bud of bliss, worshipped by all the Upaniṣads.
Mother, be gracious, O beautiful one; rescue us, O Mother, who have been defeated by the demons. You, O Goddess, are our refuge and authority in the world; you are able to remove all suffering, endowed with all power.
Even those who merely meditate on you become exceedingly happy; those afflicted with sorrow and fear are freed from them. Seekers of liberation, free from pride and attachment, cross the ocean of worldly existence, O noble one.
You, O Goddess, Mother of the universe, renowned for your power, arise for the protection of all, your radiance dispelling suffering. Yet, when you take the form of Time to destroy all this, who, O Mother, with dull intellect, can truly know your deeds?
Brahma, Shiva, the charioteer of the gods, Vishnu, Indra, Yama, Varuna, Agni, and Vayu—none of these, nor even the great sages, are able to comprehend the matchless power of the one whose glory is extolled in the Vedas and scriptures.
