यत्र दृष्ट्वा महामायां मन्त्रश्चासादितः शुभः । स्मृत्वा तां परमां शक्तिं स्त्रीभावं गमितो यथा
There, having seen Mahāmāyā and obtained a sacred mantra, he recalled that supreme power and was transformed into a feminine form.
यज्ञं कर्तुं मनश्चक्रे अम्बिकाया रमापतिः । उत्तीर्य भुवनात्तस्मात्समाहूय महेश्वरम्
Desiring to perform a sacrifice to Ambikā, the Lord of Lakṣmī left that world and summoned Maheśvara.
ब्रह्माणं वरुणं शक्रं कुबेरं पावकं यमम् । वसिष्ठं कश्यपं दक्षं वामदेवं बृहस्पतिम्
He invited Brahmā, Varuṇa, Śakra, Kubera, Pāvaka, Yama, Vasiṣṭha, Kaśyapa, Dakṣa, Vāmadeva, and Bṛhaspati.
सम्भारं कल्पयामास यज्ञार्थं चातिविस्तरम् । महाविभवसंयुक्तं सात्त्विकञ्च मनोहरम्
He arranged for extensive materials for the sacrifice, endowed with great opulence, sattvic in nature, and captivating to the mind.
मण्डपं विततं तत्र कारयामास शिल्पिभिः । ऋत्विजो वरयामास सप्तविंशतिसुव्रतान्
There, he had a spacious pavilion constructed by artisans, and selected twenty-seven priests of excellent vows.
चितिञ्च कारयामास वेदीश्चैव सुविस्तराः । प्रजेपुर्ब्राह्मणा मन्त्रान्देव्या बीजसमन्वितान्
He had the altar and broad sacrificial platforms built; the Brāhmaṇas recited mantras of the Goddess, imbued with her seed syllables.
जुहुवुस्ते हविः कामं विधिवत्परिकल्पिते । कृते तु वितते होमे वागुवाचाशरीरिणी
They offered the oblations as prescribed, with desire, into the well-prepared fire; when the sacrifice was completed and the fire established, a bodiless voice spoke.
विष्णुं तदा समाभाष्य सुस्वरा मधुराक्षरा । विष्णो त्वं भव देवानां हरे श्रेष्ठतमः सदा
Then, addressing Viṣṇu in sweet and melodious tones, the voice said: 'O Viṣṇu, always be the foremost among the gods, O Hari.'
मान्यश्च पूजनीयश्च समर्थश्च सुरेष्वपि । सर्वे त्वामर्चयिष्यन्ति ब्रह्माद्याश्च सवासवाः
You will be honored, worshipped, and capable even among the gods; all, including Brahma and Indra, will revere you.
प्रभविष्यन्ति भो भक्त्या मानवा भुवि सर्वतः । वरदस्त्वं च सर्वेषां भविता मानवेषु वै
O dear one, through devotion, humans everywhere on earth will become powerful; you will be the grantor of boons to all among mankind.
कामदः सर्वदेवानां परमः परमेश्वरः । सर्वयज्ञेषु मुख्यस्त्वं पूज्यः सर्वैश्च याज्ञिकैः
You will fulfill the desires of all the gods, being the supreme Lord; in every sacrifice, you will be chief and worshipped by all sacrificers.
त्वां जनाः पूजयिष्यन्ति वरदस्त्वं भविष्यसि । श्रयिष्यन्ति च देवास्त्वां दानवैरतिपीडिताः
People will worship you, and you will become the bestower of boons; the gods, afflicted by demons, will seek refuge in you.
शरणस्त्वञ्च सर्वेषां भविता पुरुषोत्तम । पुराणेषु च सर्वेषु वेदेषु विततेषु च
You will be the refuge of all, O supreme person; in all the Puranas and in the extended Vedas as well.
त्वं वै पूज्यतमः कामं कीर्तिस्तव भविष्यति । यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भूतले
You will be the most worshipped, and your fame will spread; whenever there is a decline of righteousness on earth.
तदांशेनावतीर्याशु कर्तव्यं धर्मरक्षणम् । अवताराः सुविख्याताः पृथिव्यां तव भागशः
Then, descending through your portion, you must swiftly protect righteousness; your incarnations will be renowned on earth, each as a part of you.
भविष्यन्ति धरायां वै माननीया महात्मनाम् । अवतारेषु सर्वेषु नानायोनिषु माधव
On earth, they will be honored by the great souls; in all incarnations, in various forms, O Madhava.
विख्यातः सर्वलोकेषु भविता मधुसूदन । अवतारेषु सर्वेषु शक्तिस्ते सहचारिणी
You will be celebrated in all worlds, O Madhusudana; in every incarnation, your power will accompany you.
भविष्यति ममांशेन सर्वकार्यप्रसाधिनी । वाराही नारसिंही च नानाभेदैरनेकधा
She will act through my portion, accomplishing all tasks; as Varahi, Narasimhi, and in many diverse forms.
नानायुधाः शुभाकाराः सर्वाभरणमण्डिताः । ताभिर्युक्तः सदा विष्णो सुरकार्याणि माधव
With various weapons, auspicious forms, adorned with all ornaments; united with them, O Vishnu, you will always fulfill divine tasks, O Madhava.
साधयिष्यसि तत्सर्वं मद्दत्तवरदानतः । तास्त्वया नावमन्तव्याः सर्वदा गर्वलेशतः
You will accomplish all this by the granting of boons given by me; you must never disregard them at any time, even slightly.
पूजनीयाः प्रयत्नेन माननीयाश्च सर्वथा । नूनं ता भारते खण्डे शक्तयः सर्वकामदाः
They must be worshipped with effort and honored in every way; surely, in the land of Bharata, these powers will grant all desires.
भविष्यन्ति मनुष्याणां पूजिताः प्रतिमासु च । तासां तव च देवेश कीर्तिः स्यान्दखिलेष्वपि
They will be worshipped by humans, even in their images; your fame and theirs, O Lord of gods, will spread everywhere.
द्वीपेषु सप्तस्वपि च विख्याता भुवि मण्डले । ताश्च त्वां वै महाभाग मानवा भुवि मण्डले
They will be renowned in all seven islands and across the earth; and, O highly fortunate one, humans on earth will worship you.
अर्चयिष्यन्ति वाञ्छार्थं सकामाः सततं हरे । अर्चासु चोपहारैश्च नानाभावसमन्विताः
Desiring their wishes, they will always worship you, O Hari; in images, with offerings, and in various forms.
पूजयिष्यन्ति वेदोक्तैर्मन्त्रैर्नामजपैस्तथा । महिमा तव भूर्लोके स्वर्गे च मधुसूदन
They will worship you with mantras prescribed in the Vedas, and by reciting your names; your greatness, O Madhusudana, will be in the earthly and heavenly realms.
पूजनाद्देवदेवेश वृद्धिमेष्यति मानवैः । व्यास उवाच इति दत्त्वा वरान्वाणी विरराम खसम्भवा
Through worship, O Lord of gods, humans will attain increase; Vyasa said: Thus, having granted boons, the goddess born of the sky ceased speaking.
भगवानपि प्रीतात्मा ह्यभवच्छ्रवणादिव । समाप्य विधिवद्यज्ञं भगवान्हरिरीश्वरः
The Blessed Lord, his heart filled with joy as if from hearing something delightful, completed the sacrifice according to the prescribed rites—he, the Lord Hari.
विसर्जयित्वा तान्देवान्ब्रह्मपुत्रान्मुनीनथ । जगामानुचरैः सार्धं वैकुण्ठं गरुडध्वजः
Having dismissed those gods, the sons of Brahma, and the sages, the Lord, Garuda-bannered, departed for Vaikuntha together with his attendants.
स्वानि स्वानि च धिष्ण्यानि पुनः सर्वे सुरास्ततः । मुनयो विस्मिता वार्तां कुर्वन्तस्ते परस्परम्
Then all the gods and sages returned to their own abodes, and, astonished, they conversed among themselves about these events.
ययुः प्रमुदिताः कामं स्वाश्रमान्पावनानथ
Joyful as they wished, they went to their own pure hermitages.
