नमः श्रीकालिके मातर्नमो नीलसरस्वति । उग्रतारे महोग्रे ते नित्यमेव नमो नमः
Salutations to you, O auspicious Kali, O Mother; salutations to you, O blue Sarasvati; O fierce Tara, O greatly formidable one, constant salutations to you.
नमः पीताम्बरे देवि नमस्त्रिपुरसुन्दरि । नमो भैरवि मातङ्गि धूमावति नमो नमः
Salutations to you, O Goddess clad in yellow; salutations to you, O beauty of Tripura; salutations to you, O Bhairavi, Matangi, Dhumavati, again and again.
छिन्नमस्ते नमस्तेऽस्तु क्षीरसागरकन्यके । नमः शाकम्भरि शिवे नमस्ते रक्तदन्तिके
Salutations to you, O Chinnamasta; O daughter of the ocean of milk, salutations; O Shakambhari, O auspicious one, O red-toothed, salutations to you.
निशुम्भशुम्भदलनि रक्तबीजविनाशिनि । धूम्रलोचननिर्णाशे वृत्रासुरनिबर्हिणि
Destroyer of Nishumbha and Shumbha, annihilator of Raktabija; vanquisher of Dhumralochana, suppressor of the Vritra demon.
चण्डमुण्डप्रमथिनि दानवान्तकरे शिवे । नमस्ते विजये गङ्गे शारदे विकचानने
Salutations to you, O fierce destroyer of Chanda and Munda, ender of demons, O auspicious one! Salutations to you, O victorious one, O Ganga, O Sharada, O one with a radiant face.
पृथ्वीरूपे दयारूपे तेजोरूपे नमो नमः । प्राणरूपे महारूपे भूतरूपे नमोऽस्तु ते
Homage again and again to you in the form of the earth, in the form of compassion, in the form of light; to you in the form of life-breath, in the great form, in the form of all beings—salutations to you.
विश्वमूर्ते दयामूर्ते धर्ममूर्ते नमो नमः । देवमूर्ते ज्योतिमूर्ते ज्ञानमूर्ते नमोऽस्तु ते
Homage again and again to you, who are the form of the universe, the form of compassion, the form of righteousness; to you, the form of divinity, the form of light, the form of knowledge—salutations to you.
गायत्रि वरदे देवि सावित्रि च सरस्वति । नमः स्वाहे स्वधे मातर्दक्षिणे ते नमो नमः
O goddess, bestower of boons, Gāyatrī, Sāvitrī, Sarasvatī—salutations to you! O Svāhā, Svadhā, O mother, O Dakṣiṇā, repeated salutations to you.
नेति नेतीति वाक्यैर्या बोध्यते सकलागमैः । सर्वप्रत्यक्स्वरूपां तां भजामः परदेवताम्
She who is indicated by the words 'not this, not this' in all the scriptures, who is the direct form of all—her, the supreme goddess, we worship.
भ्रमरैर्वेष्टिता यस्माद् भ्रामरी या ततः स्मृता । तस्यै देव्यै नमो नित्यं नित्यमेव नमो नमः
Because she is surrounded by bees, she is thus remembered as Bhṛāmarī; to that goddess, constant salutations, ever and always, salutations again and again.
नमस्ते पार्श्वयोः पृष्ठे नमस्ते पुरतोऽम्बिके । नम ऊर्ध्वं नमश्चाधः सर्वत्रैव नमो नमः
Salutations to you at your sides, at your back, and in front, O Ambikā; salutations above, salutations below, and everywhere, indeed, salutations again and again.
कृपां कुरु महादेवि मणिद्वीपाधिवासिनि । अनन्तकोटिब्रह्माण्डनायिके जगदम्बिके
Show compassion, O great goddess, O dweller in the jeweled island, O sovereign of countless millions of universes, O mother of the world.
जय देवि जगन्मातर्जय देवि परात्परे । जय श्रीभुवनेशानि जय सर्वोत्तमोत्तमे
Victory to you, O goddess, mother of the world! Victory to you, O goddess, transcendent among the transcendent! Victory to you, O glorious sovereign of the worlds! Victory to you, highest among the highest!
कल्याणगुणरत्नानामाकरे भुवनेश्वरि । प्रसीद परमेशानि प्रसीद जगतोरणे
O sovereign of the worlds, treasure-house of auspicious qualities and virtues, be gracious, O supreme ruler, be gracious at the gateway of the world.
श्रीनारायण उवाच इति देववचः श्रुत्वा प्रगल्भं मधुरं वचः । उवाच जगदम्बा सा मत्तकोकिलभाषिणी
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: Thus, having heard the bold and sweet words of the gods, the Mother of the World, speaking with the voice of an intoxicated cuckoo, replied.
देव्युवाच प्रसन्नाहं सदा देवा वरदेशशिखामणिः । ब्रुवन्तु विबुधाः सर्वे यदेव स्याच्चिकीर्षितम्
The goddess said: I am always pleased, O gods, O crest-jewel among givers of boons. Let all the wise ones speak whatever is desired to be accomplished.
देवीवाक्यं सुराः श्रुत्वा प्रोचुर्दुःखस्य कारणम् । दुष्टदैत्यस्य चरितं जगद्बाधाकरं परम्
Hearing the goddess's words, the gods described the cause of their suffering: the wicked deeds of the evil demon, which brought great distress to the world.
देवब्राह्मणवेदानां हेलनं नाशनं तथा । स्थानभ्रंशं सुराणां च कथयामासुरादृताः
With reverence, they told of the insult and destruction of the gods, brahmins, and Vedas, and also of the loss of the gods' positions.
ब्रह्मणो वरदानं च यथावत्ते समूचिरे । श्रुत्वा देवमुखाद्वाणीं महाभगवती तदा
They fully recounted the boon granted by Brahmā, just as it was, to her; and having heard the words from the gods, the great goddess at that time—
प्रेरयामास हस्तस्थान्भ्रमरान्भ्रामरी तदा । पार्श्वस्थानग्नभागस्थान्नानारूपधरांस्तथा
Then Bhṛāmarī sent forth the bees held in her hands, and also those standing at her sides and near the fire, taking on various forms.
जनयामास बहुशो यैर्व्याप्तं भुवनत्रयम् । मटचीयूथवत्तेषां समुदायस्तु निर्गतः
She generated many more, by whom the three worlds were filled; their swarms emerged together like a mass of bees.
तदान्तरिक्षं तैर्व्याप्तमन्धकारः क्षितावभूत् । दिवि पर्वतशृङ्गेषु द्रुमेषु विपिनेष्वपि
Then the sky was filled by them, and darkness spread over the earth; in the heavens, on mountain peaks, in trees, and even in forests.
भ्रमरा एव सञ्जातास्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत् । ते सर्वे दैत्यवक्षांसि दारयामासुरुद्गताः
Then, bees appeared, and it was a marvelous sight; they all rose up and tore at the chests of the Daityas.
नरं मधुहरं यद्वन्मक्षिकाः कोपसंयुताः । उपायो न च शस्त्राणां तथास्त्राणां तदाभवत्
Just as angry bees attack a man who steals honey, so too, at that time, neither weapons nor missiles could offer any remedy.
न युद्धं न च सम्भाषा केवलं मरणं खलु । यस्मिन्यस्मिन्स्थले ये ये स्थिता दैत्या यथा यथा
There was no battle, no conversation—only death, indeed; wherever the Daityas stood, in whatever place, in whatever manner—
तत्रैव च तथा सर्वे मरणं प्रापुरुत्स्मयाः । परस्परं समाचारो न कस्याप्यभवत्तदा
Right there, all those arrogant Daityas met their death; at that time, there was no communication among any of them.
क्षणमात्रेण ते सर्वे विनष्टा दैत्यपुङ्गवाः । कृत्वेत्थं भ्रमराः कार्यं देवीनिकटमाययुः
In a mere moment, all those foremost Daityas were destroyed; having accomplished their task, the bees returned near the Goddess.
आश्चर्यमेतदाश्चर्यमिति लोकाः समूचिरे । किं चित्रं जगदम्बाया यस्या मायेयमीदृशी
People exclaimed, 'This is a wonder, truly a wonder! What marvel is there in the Mother of the World, whose power is like this?'
ततो देवगणाः सर्वे ब्रह्मविष्णुपुरोगमाः । निमग्ना हर्षजलधौ पूजयामासुरम्बिकाम्
Then all the hosts of gods, led by Brahma and Vishnu, immersed in an ocean of joy, worshipped Ambika.
नानोपचारैर्विविधैर्नानोपायनपाणयः । जयशब्दं प्रकुर्वाणा मुमुचुः सुमनांसि च
With various offerings and diverse gifts in their hands, proclaiming cries of victory, they showered down flowers.
