धावमानास्तु शोभन्ते सर्वा विद्युल्लतोपमाः । कुशलाः सर्वकार्येषु वेत्रहस्ताः समन्ततः
As they run, all of them shine like flashes of lightning; skilled in every task, they hold staffs in their hands on all sides.
अष्टदिक्षु तथैतासां प्राकाराद्बहिरेव च । सदनानि विराजन्ते नानावाहनहेतिभिः
In all eight directions and outside the ramparts, their mansions stand resplendent, furnished with various vehicles and weapons.
वज्रसालादग्रभागे सालो वैदूर्यनिर्मितः । दशयोजनतुङ्गोऽसौ गोपुरद्वारभूषितः
At the front of the diamond hall is a pavilion made of beryl, ten yojanas high, adorned with gateways and towers.
वैदूर्यभूमिः सर्वापि गृहाणि विविधानि च । वीथ्यो रथ्या महामार्गाः सर्वे वैदूर्यनिर्मिताः
The entire ground is of beryl, as are the various houses; the streets, lanes, and great roads are all constructed of beryl.
वापीकूपतडागाश्च स्रवन्तीनां तटानि च । बालुका चैव सर्वापि वैदूर्यमणिनिर्मिता
The ponds, wells, and tanks, as well as the banks of streams, and even all the sand, are made of beryl gems.
तत्राष्टदिक्षु परितो ब्राह्म्यादीनां च मण्डलम् । निजैर्गणैः परिवृतं भ्राजते नृपसत्तम
There, in all eight directions, the circles of Brāhmī and the other goddesses shine, surrounded by their own attendants, O best of kings.
प्रतिब्रह्माण्डमातॄणां ताः समष्टय ईरिताः । ब्राह्मी माहेश्वरी चैव कौमारी वैष्णवी तथा
These are said to be the collective forms of the Mothers of each universe: Brāhmī, Māheśvarī, Kaumārī, and Vaiṣṇavī.
वाराही च तथेन्द्राणी चामुण्डा सप्त मातरः । अष्टमी तु महालक्ष्मीर्नाम्ना प्रोक्तास्तु मातरः
Also Vārāhī, Indrāṇī, and Cāmuṇḍā—these are the seven Mothers; the eighth is Mahālakṣmī, known by name as the Mother.
ब्रह्मरुद्रादिदेवानां समाकारास्तु ताः स्मृताः । जगत्कल्याणकारिण्यः स्वस्वसेनासमावृताः
They are considered to have the forms of Brahmā, Rudra, and the other gods; they bring welfare to the world, each surrounded by their own armies.
तत्सालस्य चतुर्द्वार्षु वाहनानि महेशितुः । सज्जानि नृपते सन्ति सालङ्काराणि नित्यशः
At the four gates of that hall, O king, the vehicles of the great Lord stand ever ready, adorned with all ornaments.
दन्तिनः कोटिशो वाहाः कोटिशः शिबिकास्तथा । हंसाः सिंहाश्च गरुडा मयूरा वृषभास्तथा
There are tens of millions of elephants as mounts, and just as many palanquins; also swans, lions, Garuḍas, peacocks, and bulls.
तैर्युक्ताः स्यन्दनास्तद्वत्कोटिशो नृपनन्दन । पार्ष्णिग्राहसमायुक्ता ध्वजैराकाशचुम्बिनः
Chariots yoked to these, O delight of kings, number in the tens of millions, equipped with rear guards and banners that touch the sky.
कोटिशस्तु विमानानि नानाचिह्नान्वितानि च । नानावादित्रयुक्तानि महाध्वजयुतानि च
There are tens of millions of aerial cars, marked with various signs, equipped with many musical instruments and great banners.
वैदूर्यमणिसालस्याप्यग्रे सालः परः स्मृतः । दशयोजनतुङ्गोऽसाविन्द्रनीलाश्मनिर्मितः
In front of the beryl-gem hall stands another great pavilion, ten yojanas high, made of sapphire stones.
तन्मध्यभूस्तथा वीथ्यो महामार्गा गृहाणि च । वापीकूपतडागाश्च सर्वे तन्मणिनिर्मिताः
In the midst of that, there were likewise streets, great avenues, houses, and all the wells, ponds, and reservoirs were constructed from those very jewels.
तत्र पद्मं तु सम्प्रोक्तं बहुयोजनविस्तृतम् । षोडशारं दीप्यमानं सुदर्शनमिवापरम्
There, it is said, was a lotus of vast extent, measuring many yojanas, with sixteen petals, shining brilliantly, appearing as another wondrous sight.
तत्र षोडशशक्तीनां स्थानानि विविधानि च । सर्वोपस्करयुक्तानि समृद्धानि वसन्ति हि
There, the abodes of the sixteen powers were of various kinds, all furnished with every amenity, and resplendent indeed.
तासां नामानि वक्ष्यामि शृणु मे नृपसत्तम । कराली विकराली च तथोमा च सरस्वती
I shall tell you their names; listen to me, O best of kings: Karālī, Vikarālī, also Umā, and Sarasvatī,
श्रीदुर्गोषा तथा लक्ष्मीः श्रुतिश्चैव स्मृतिर्धृतिः । श्रद्धा मेधा मतिः कान्तिरार्या षोडश शक्तयः
Śrī, Durgoṣā, likewise Lakṣmī, and also Śruti, Smṛti, Dhṛti, Śraddhā, Medhā, Mati, Kānti, and Āryā—these are the sixteen powers.
नीलजीमूतसंकाशाः करवालकराम्बुजाः । समाः खेटकधारिण्यो युद्धोपक्रान्तमानसाः
They resembled dark rain clouds, held swords in their lotus-like hands, were equal in form, bore shields, and their minds were intent on battle.
सेनान्यः सकला एताः श्रीदेव्या जगदीशितुः । प्रतिब्रह्माण्डसंस्थानां शक्तीनां नायिकाः स्मृताः
All these are the generals of the army of Śrī Devī, the sovereign of the universe, and are regarded as the leaders of the powers presiding over each universe.
ब्रह्माण्डक्षोभकारिण्यो देवीशक्त्युपबृंहिताः । नानारथसमारूढा नानाशक्तिभिरन्विताः
Causing the agitation of the universes, endowed with the power of the Goddess, they ride on various chariots and are accompanied by diverse energies.
एतत्पराक्रमं वक्तुं सहस्रास्योऽपि न क्षमः । इन्द्रनीलमहासालादग्रे तु बहुविस्तृतः
Even the thousand-headed one is not able to describe their valor; before the great hall of indranīla, there is a vast expanse.
मुक्ताप्राकार उदितो दशयोजनदैर्घ्यवान् । मध्यभूः पूर्ववत्प्रोक्ता तन्मध्येऽष्टदलाम्बुजम्
There arose a wall of pearls, ten yojanas in length; as previously described, in its center was an eight-petaled lotus.
मुक्तामणिगणाकीर्णं विस्तृतं तु सकेसरम् । तत्र देवीसमाकारा देव्यायुधधराः सदा
Adorned with clusters of pearl-gems, spacious and with filaments, there always reside forms resembling the Goddess, bearing the weapons of the Goddess.
सम्प्रोक्ता अष्टमन्त्रिण्यो जगद्वार्ताप्रबोधिकाः । देवीसमानभोगास्ता इङ्गितज्ञास्तु पण्डिताः
There are said to be eight ministers, who awaken knowledge of worldly affairs; they enjoy pleasures equal to the Goddess, are skilled in reading gestures, and are learned.
कुशलाः सर्वकार्येषु स्वामिकार्यपरायणाः । देव्यभिप्रायबोध्यस्ताश्चतुरा अतिसुन्दराः
They are adept in all tasks, devoted to the work of their mistress, perceptive of the Goddess's intentions, clever, and exceedingly beautiful.
नानाशक्तिसमायुक्ताः प्रतिब्रह्माण्डवर्तिनाम् । प्राणिनां ताः समाचारं ज्ञानशक्त्या विदन्ति च
Endowed with various powers, they observe, through the power of knowledge, the conduct of beings in each universe.
तासां नामानि वक्ष्यामि मत्तः शृणु नृपोत्तम । अनङ्गकुसुमा प्रोक्ताप्यनङ्गकुसुमातुरा
I shall tell you their names; hear from me, O best of kings: Anaṅgakusumā, Anaṅgakusumāturā,
अनङ्गमदना तद्वदनङ्गमदनातुरा । भुवनपाला गगनवेगा चैव ततः परम्
Anaṅgamadanā, likewise Anaṅgamadanāturā, Bhuvanapālā, Gaganavegā, and then further,
