रथरेखाह्वया पश्चाच्छशिरेखा तथापरा । गगनवेगा पवनवेगा वेगा चैव ततः परम्
Behind is she called Ratharekha, and then another called Shashirekha; then come Gaganavega, Pavanavega, and further, Vegā.
अग्रे भुवनपाला स्यात्तत्पश्चान्मदनातुरा । अनङ्गानङ्गमथना तथैवानङ्गमेखला
In front is Bhuvanapāla, behind her is Madanāturā; then Anaṅgā, Anaṅgamathanā, and likewise Anaṅgamekhalā.
अनङ्गकुसुमा पश्चाद्विश्वरूपा सुरादिका । क्षयङ्करी भवेच्छक्तिरक्षोभ्या च ततः परम्
After Anaṅgakusumā is Viśvarūpā, then Surādikā; the power called Kṣayaṅkarī comes next, and then Akṣobhyā.
सत्यवादिन्यथ प्रोक्ता बहुरूपा शुचितव्रता । उदाराख्या च वागीशी चतुःषष्टिमिताः स्मृताः
Satyavādinī is next, then Bahurūpā, and Śucitavratā; then Udārākhyā, Vāgīśī—these are counted as sixty-four.
ज्वलज्जिह्नाननाः सर्वा वमन्त्यो वह्निमुल्बणम् । जलं पिबामः सकलं संहरामो विभावसुम्
All have blazing tongues for faces, vomiting fierce fire; they say, 'We will drink up all water and consume the fire.'
पवनं स्तम्भयामोऽद्य भक्षयामोऽखिलं जगत् । इति वाचं संगिरन्ते क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनाः
'Today we will halt the wind, devour the whole world!'—thus they speak, their eyes reddened with wrath.
चापबाणधराः सर्वा युद्धायैवोत्सुकाः सदा । दंष्ट्राकटकटारावैर्बधिरीकृतदिङ्मुखाः
All are armed with bows and arrows, always eager for battle; their gnashing fangs make a clattering sound that deafens the directions.
पिङ्गोर्ध्वकेश्यः सम्प्रोक्ताश्चापबाणकराः सदा । शताक्षौहिणिका सेनाप्येकैकस्याः प्रकीर्तिता
They are described as tawny-haired, with bows and arrows in hand; each has an army of a hundred akṣauhiṇīs.
एकैकशक्तेः सामर्थ्यं लक्षब्रह्माण्डनाशने । शताक्षौहिणिका सेना तादृशी नृपसत्तम
The power of each one is enough to destroy a hundred thousand universes; such is the army of a hundred akṣauhiṇīs, O best of kings.
किं न कुर्याज्जगत्यस्मिन्नशक्यं वक्तुमेव तत् । सर्वापि युद्धसामग्री तस्मिन्साले स्थिता मुने
What could they not accomplish in this world? It is impossible even to say; all the equipment for war is assembled in that hall, O sage.
रथानां गणना नास्ति हयानां करिणां तथा । शस्त्राणां गणना तद्वद्गणानां गणना तथा
There is no counting the chariots, nor the horses and elephants; likewise, the weapons and the troops are beyond reckoning.
पद्मरागमयादग्रे गोमेदमणिनिर्मितः । दशयोजनदैर्घ्येण प्राकारो वर्तते महान्
In front is a great wall made of padmarāga gems, constructed of gomedha jewels, ten yojanas in length.
भास्वज्जपाप्रसूनाभो मध्यभूस्तस्य तादृशी । गोमेदकल्पितान्येव तद्वासिसदनानि च
In the middle is a ground shining like the blossom of the japā flower; the dwellings there are also made of gomedha gems.
पक्षिणः स्तम्भवर्याश्च वृक्षा वाप्यः सरांसि च । गोमेदकल्पिता एव कुङ्कुमारुणविग्रहाः
The noble pillars, trees, ponds, and lakes are all made of gomedha, with forms red as saffron.
तन्मध्यस्था महादेव्यो द्वात्रिंशच्छक्तयः स्मृताः । नानाशस्त्रप्रहरणा गोमेदमणिभूषिताः
In the center are the great goddesses, remembered as thirty-two powers, adorned with various weapons and gomedha jewels.
प्रत्येकलोकवासिन्यः परिवार्य समन्ततः । गोमेदसाले सन्नद्धाः पिशाचवदना नृप
Each one dwells in her own world, encircling all around; stationed in the gomedha hall, with faces like piśācas, O king.
स्वर्लोकवासिभिर्नित्यं पूजिताश्चक्रबाहवः । क्रोधरक्तेक्षणा भिन्धि पचच्छिन्धि दहेति च
They are always worshipped by the dwellers of heaven, with arms like wheels; their eyes red with anger, they say, 'Strike! Cook! Cut! Burn!'
वदन्ति सततं वाचं युद्धोत्सुकहृदन्तराः । एकैकस्या महाशक्तेर्दशाक्षौहिणिका मता
They constantly utter such words, their hearts eager for battle; each great power is considered to have ten akṣauhiṇī armies.
सेना तत्राप्येकशक्तिर्लक्षब्रह्माण्डनाशिनी । तादृशीनां महासेना वर्णनीया कथं नृप
Even a single power in that army is capable of destroying a hundred thousand universes; O King, how can such a great army as this truly be described?
रथानां नैव गणना वाहनानां तथैव च । सर्वयुद्धसमारम्भस्तत्र देव्या विराजते
There is no counting the chariots or the mounts; in every kind of battle, the glory of the Goddess shines forth there.
तासां नामानि वक्ष्यामि पापनाशकराणि च । विद्याह्रीपुष्टयः प्रज्ञा सिनीवाली कुहूस्तथा
I will now speak the names of those powers, which also destroy sin: Vidya, Shri, Pushti, Prajna, Sinivali, and Kuhu.
रुद्रा वीर्या प्रभा नन्दा पोषिणी ऋद्धिदा शुभा । कालरात्रिर्महारात्रिर्भद्रकाली कपर्दिनी
Rudrani, Virya, Prabha, Nanda, Poshini, Riddhida, Shubha, Kalaratri, Maharathri, Bhadrakali, and Kapardini.
विकृतिर्दण्डिमुण्डिन्यौ सेन्दुखण्डा शिखण्डिनी । निशुम्भशुम्भमथिनी महिषासुरमर्दिनी
Vikriti, Dandini, Mundini, Sendukhandā, Shikhandini, Nishumbha-Shumbhamathini, and Mahishasuramardini.
इन्द्राणी चैव रुद्राणी शङ्करार्धशरीरिणी । नारी नारायणी चैव त्रिशूलिन्यपि पालिनी
Indrani, Rudrani, she who shares half the body of Shankara, Nari, Narayani, Trishulini, and Palini.
अम्बिका ह्लादिनी पश्चादित्येवं शक्तयः स्मृताः । यद्येताः कुपिता देव्यस्तदा ब्रह्माण्डनाशनम्
Ambika, Hladini, and others are remembered as such powers; if these Goddesses become angry, they bring about the destruction of the universe.
पराजयो न चैतासां कदाचित्क्वचिदस्ति हि । गोमेदकमयादग्रे सद्वज्रमणिनिर्मितः
There is never defeat for them at any time or place; at the front stands a gateway made of agate, fashioned with excellent diamond jewels.
दशयोजनतुङ्गोऽसौ गोपुरद्वारसंयुतः । कपाटशृङ्खलाबद्धो नववृक्षसमुज्ज्वलः
It rises ten yojanas high, with a gateway and a tower, secured with door chains and shining with nine kinds of trees.
सालस्तन्मध्यभूम्यादि सर्वं हीरमयं स्मृतम् । गृहाणि वीथयो रथ्या महामार्गाङ्गणानि च
The hall, the central ground, and all within are said to be made of gold; the houses, streets, lanes, main roads, and courtyards as well.
वृक्षालवालतरवः सारङ्गा अपि तादृशाः । दीर्घिकाश्रेणयो वाप्यस्तडागाः कूपसंयुताः
The groves, clusters of trees, and even the deer are of such kind; there are rows of ponds, reservoirs, and wells.
तत्र श्रीभुवनेश्वर्या वसन्ति परिचारिकाः । एकैका लक्षदासीभिः सेविता मदगर्विताः
There, the attendants of Shri Bhuvaneshvari reside, each one served by a hundred thousand maidservants, proud with intoxication.
