पारावतशुकव्रातसारिकापक्षमारुतैः । हंसपक्षसमुद्भूतावातव्रातैश्चलद्द्रुमम्
With flocks of doves, parrots, and starlings stirred by the wind, and breezes arising from the wings of swans, the trees sway.
सुगन्धग्राहिपवनपूरितं तद्वनोत्तमम् । सहितं हरिणीयूथैर्धावमानैरितस्ततः
That excellent forest is filled with breezes carrying sweet fragrances, and herds of deer run here and there within it.
नृत्यद्बर्हिकदम्बस्य केकारावैः सुखप्रदैः । नादितं तद्वनं दिव्यं मधुस्रावि समन्ततः
The divine forest, resounding on all sides with the joyful cries of dancing peacocks and the sweet calls of their mates, is overflowing with honey.
कांस्यसालादुत्तरे तु ताम्रसालः प्रकीर्तितः । चतुरस्रसमाकार उन्नत्या सप्तयोजनः
To the north of the bronze sala is the copper sala, said to be four-sided in shape and seven yojanas in height.
द्वयोस्तु सालयोर्मध्ये सम्प्रोक्ता कल्पवाटिका । येषां तरूणां पुष्पाणि काञ्चनाभानि भूमिप
Between the two sala trees is the famed wish-fulfilling grove, whose trees have flowers with the luster of gold, O King.
पत्राणि काञ्चनाभानि रत्नबीजफलानि च । दशयोजनगन्धो हि प्रसर्पति समन्ततः
Their leaves shine like gold, their fruits are like jewels, and their fragrance spreads in all directions for ten yojanas.
तद्वनं रक्षितं राजन् वसन्तेनर्तुनानिशम् । पुष्पसिंहासनासीनः पुष्पच्छत्रविराजितः
That forest, O King, is guarded day and night by the spring season; seated on a throne of flowers, adorned with a floral parasol.
पुष्पभूषाभूषितश्च पुष्पासवविघूर्णितः । मधुश्रीर्माधवश्रीश्च द्वे भार्ये तस्य सम्मते
Adorned with floral ornaments and intoxicated by the essence of flowers, he is attended by his two beloved wives, Madhuśrī and Mādhavaśrī.
क्रीडतः स्मेरवदने सुमस्तबककन्दुकैः । अतीव रम्यं विपिनं मधुस्रावि समन्ततः
With smiling faces, they played with garlands and balls of flowers; the forest, exceedingly delightful, was filled everywhere with the sweet flow of honey.
दशयोजनपर्यन्तं कुसुमामोदवायुना । पूरितं दिव्यगन्धर्वैः साङ्गनैर्गानलोलुपैः
Up to a distance of ten yojanas, the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers, and divine Gandharvas with their consorts, eager for song, were present.
शोभितं तद्वनं दिव्यं मत्तकोकिलनादितम् । वसन्तलक्ष्मीसंयुक्तं कामिकामप्रवर्धनम्
That divine forest was adorned, resounding with the cries of intoxicated cuckoos, graced by the beauty of spring, and the increase of desire and passion.
ताम्रसालादुत्तरत्र सीससालः प्रकीर्तितः । समुच्छ्रायः स्मृतोऽप्यस्य सप्तयोजनसंख्यया
To the north of the Tamala grove is the Sīsasāla, as it is called; its height is said to be seven yojanas.
सन्तानवाटिकामध्ये सालयोस्तु द्वयोर्नृप । दशयोजनगन्धस्तु प्रसूनानां समन्ततः
In the middle of the grove of wish-fulfilling trees, between the two groves, O King, the fragrance of the flowers extends for ten yojanas all around.
हिरण्याभानि कुसुमान्युत्फुल्लानि निरन्तरम् । अमृतद्रवसंयुक्तफलानि मधुराणि च
The flowers are golden in hue, always in full bloom, and the fruits, sweet and mixed with nectar, are ever present.
ग्रीष्मर्तुर्नायकस्तस्या वाटिकाया नृपोत्तम । शुक्रश्रीश्च शुचिश्रीश्च द्वे भार्ये तस्य सम्मते
O best of kings, the lord of that grove in the summer season is Śukraśrī; his two esteemed wives are Śuciśrī and Śukraśrī.
सन्तापत्रस्तलोकास्तु वृक्षमूलेषु संस्थिताः । नानासिद्धैः परिवृतो नानादेवैः समन्वितः
The inhabitants of the world afflicted by heat take refuge at the roots of the trees; he is surrounded by various Siddhas and accompanied by various gods.
विलासिनीनां वृन्दैस्तु चन्दनद्रवपङ्किलैः । पुष्पमालाभूषितैस्तु तालवृन्तकराम्बुजैः
He is attended by groups of playful women, adorned with garlands of flowers, their hands like lotus buds holding palm fans, and their bodies smeared with sandalwood paste.
प्राकारः शोभितो राजञ्छीतलाम्बुनिषेविभिः । सीससालादुत्तरत्राप्यारकूटमयः शुभः
O King, the enclosure wall is splendid, frequented by those who enjoy cool waters; to the north of the Sīsasāla grove is another auspicious wall made of gold.
प्राकारो वर्तते राजन् मुनियोजनदैर्घ्यवान् । हरिचन्दनवृक्षाणां वाटी मध्ये तयोः स्मृता
O King, the enclosure wall extends for a length measured by the sages in yojanas; in the middle of the two groves is a garden of sandalwood trees.
सालयोरधिनाथस्तु वर्षर्तुर्मेघवाहनः । विद्युत्पिङ्गलनेत्रश्च जीमूतकवचः स्मृतः
The lord of the groves in the rainy season is Meghavāhana; his eyes are tawny like lightning, and he is known as Jīmūtakavaca.
वज्रनिर्घोषमुखरश्चेन्द्रधन्वा समन्ततः । सहस्रशो वारिधारा मुञ्चन्नास्ते गणावृतः
He, whose voice resounds like thunder, is surrounded on all sides by rainbows, and, accompanied by his hosts, pours down thousands of streams of water.
नभःश्रीश्च नभस्यश्रीः स्वरस्या रस्यमालिनी । अम्बा दुला निरत्निश्चाभ्रमन्ती मेघयन्तिका
Nabhaḥśrī, Nabhasyaśrī, Svarasya, Rasyamālinī, Ambā, Dulā, Niratniśca, Abhramantī, and Meghayantikā are his wives.
वर्षयन्ती चिपुणिका वारिधारा च सम्मताः । वर्षर्तोर्द्वादश प्रोक्ताः शक्तयो मदविह्वलाः
Varṣayantī, Cipuṇikā, and Vāridhārā are also esteemed; the twelve powers of the rainy season, intoxicated with delight, are thus described.
नवपल्लववृक्षाश्च नवीनलतिकान्विताः । हरितानि तृणान्येव वेष्टिता यैर्धराखिला
There are trees with new shoots, entwined with fresh creepers, and the entire earth is covered with green grass.
नदीनदप्रवाहाश्च प्रवहन्ति च वेगतः । सरांसि कलुषाम्बूनि रागिचित्तसमानि च
Rivers and streams flow swiftly, and the lakes, with their turbid waters, resemble minds filled with passion.
वसन्ति देवाः सिद्धाश्च ये देवीकर्मकारिणः । वापीकूपतडागाश्च ये देव्यर्थं समर्पिताः
The gods and Siddhas who perform the deeds of the Goddess dwell there, as well as the wells, ponds, and reservoirs dedicated to the Goddess.
ते गणा निवसन्त्यत्र सविलासाश्च साङ्गनाः । आरकूटमयादग्रे सप्तयोजनदैर्घ्यवान्
Those hosts reside here, delighting with their companions; in front stands a hall made of Arakūṭa wood, seven yojanas in length.
पञ्चलोहात्मकः सालो मध्ये मन्दारवाटिका । नानापुष्पलताकीर्णा नानापल्लवशोभिता
The hall is made of five metals, and in its center is a grove of Mandāra trees, adorned with various flowering vines and beautiful with diverse young shoots.
अधिष्ठातात्र सम्प्रोक्तः शरद्ऋतुरनामयः । इषुलक्ष्मीरूर्जलक्ष्मीर्द्वे भार्ये तस्य सम्मते
The presiding deity there is said to be the faultless season of Autumn; his two esteemed wives are Iṣulakṣmī and Urdjalakṣmī.
नानासिद्धा वसन्त्यत्र साङ्गनाः सपरिच्छदाः । पञ्चलोहमयादग्रे सप्तयोजनदैर्घ्यवान्
Various accomplished beings dwell here with their companions and attendants; in front stands a hall of five metals, seven yojanas in length.
