मनुना पुटितैर्वर्णैर्मातृकाया विधानतः । देव्या अङ्गेषु विन्यस्य चन्दनाद्यैः समर्चयेत्
With the letters of the mātṛkā, purified by mantra as prescribed, he should apply sandal and other substances to the limbs of the Goddess and worship her.
गन्धः कालागुरुभवः कर्पूरेण समन्वितः । काश्मीरं चन्दनं चापि कस्तूरीसहितं मुने
The fragrance should be from agaru, mixed with camphor, and also include saffron, sandalwood, and musk, O sage.
कुन्दपुष्पादिपुष्पाणि परदेव्यै समर्पयेत् । धूपोऽगुरुपुरुव्रातोशीरचन्दनशर्कराः
He should offer to the supreme Goddess jasmine and other flowers, and incense made from aguru, guggul, usīra, sandal, and sugar.
मधुमिश्राः स्मृता देव्याः प्रिया धूपात्मना सदा । दीपाननेकान्दत्त्वाथ नैवेद्यं दर्शयेत्सुधीः
Incense mixed with honey is always considered dear to the Goddess; then, after offering many lamps, the wise one should present the food offering.
प्रतिद्रव्यं जलं दद्यात्प्रोक्षणीस्थं न चान्यथा । ततः कुर्यादङ्गपूजां कल्पोक्तावरणानि च
For each item, he should offer water for sprinkling, never omitting it; then he should perform the worship of the limbs and the coverings as prescribed in the rite.
साङ्गां देवीमथाभ्यर्च्य वैश्वदेवं ततश्चरेत् । दक्षिणे स्थण्डिलं कृत्वा तत्राधाय हुताशनम्
Having worshipped the Goddess with all her limbs, he should then perform the Vaiśvadeva rite; placing the fire on the southern altar, he should establish the sacred fire there.
मूर्तिस्थां देवतां तत्रावाह्य संपूज्य च क्रमात् । तारव्याहृतिभिर्हुत्वा मूलमन्त्रेण वै ततः
He should invoke the deity present in the image there and worship her in order; then, with the vyāhṛti syllables and the root mantra, he should make offerings.
पञ्चविंशतिवारं तु पायसेन ससर्पिषा । हुनेत्पश्चाद्व्याहृतिभिः पुनश्च जुहुयान्मुने
He should offer, with clarified butter and milk-rice, twenty-five oblations, and afterwards, O sage, again make offerings with the vyāhṛtis.
गन्धाद्यैरर्चयित्वा च देवीं पीठे तु योजयेत् । वह्निं विसृज्य हविषा परितो विकिरेद्बलिम्
After worshipping the Goddess with fragrances and such, he should seat her on the throne; dismissing the fire with the offering, he should scatter the bali offering all around.
देवतायाः पार्षदेभ्यो गन्धपुष्पादिसंयुतान् । पञ्चोपचारान्दत्त्वाथ ताम्बूलं छत्रचामरे
He should then offer the five services, accompanied by fragrance and flowers, to the attendants of the deity, and present betel, umbrella, and fan.
दद्याद्देव्यै ततो मन्त्रं सहस्रावृत्तितो जपेत् । जपं समर्प्य चैशान्यां विकिरे दिशि संस्थिते
Then he should offer the mantra to the Goddess, reciting it a thousand times; having completed the recitation, he should scatter it in the direction where Īśānī is established.
कर्करीं स्थापयेत्तस्यां दुर्गामावाह्य पूजयेत् । रक्ष रक्षेति चोच्चार्य नालमुक्तेन वारिणा
He should set up a winnowing basket, invoke Durgā there, and worship her, uttering 'Protect, protect,' and with water not previously used for washing the mouth.
अस्त्रमन्त्रं जपन्देशं सेचयेत्तु प्रदक्षिणम् । कर्करीं स्थापयेत्स्थाने पूजयेच्चास्त्रदेवताम्
Reciting the weapon-mantra, he should sprinkle the place in a clockwise direction; he should place the water-pot in its proper position and worship the presiding deity of the weapon-mantra.
पश्चाद्गुरुस्तु शिष्येण सह भुञ्जीत वाग्यतः । तस्यां रात्रौ तु तद्वेद्यां निद्रां कुर्यात्प्रयत्नतः
Afterwards, the teacher, together with the disciple, should eat in silence; during that night, in that same place, they should carefully sleep.
श्रीनारायण उवाच ततः कुण्डस्य संस्कारं स्थण्डिलस्य च वा मुने । प्रवक्ष्यामि समासेन यथाविधि विधानतः
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: O sage, now I will briefly explain, according to the proper method, the consecration of the fire-pit and the sacrificial ground.
मूलमन्त्रं समुच्चार्य वीक्षयेदस्त्रमन्त्रतः । प्रोक्षयेत्ताडनं कुर्यात्तेनैव कवचेन तु
Uttering the root-mantra, he should gaze with the weapon-mantra, sprinkle, strike, and protect with that very kavaca (protective mantra).
अभ्युक्षणं समुद्दिष्टं तिस्रस्तिस्रस्ततः परम् । प्रागग्रा उदगग्राश्च लिखेल्लेखाः समन्ततः
Sprinkling is prescribed three times, and then three times more; he should draw lines all around, some facing east and some facing north.
प्रणवेन समभ्युक्ष्य पीठं देव्याः समर्चयेत् । आधारशक्तिमारभ्य पीठमन्त्रावसानकम्
Sprinkling the seat with the praṇava (Oṃ), he should worship the seat of the Goddess, beginning with the support-power and ending with the seat-mantra.
तस्मिन्पीठे समावाह्य शिवौ परमकारणौ । गन्धाद्यैरुपचारैश्च पूजयेत्तौ समाहितः
On that seat, invoking Śiva and Śakti, the supreme causes, he should worship them with sandal and other offerings, with focused mind.
देवीं ध्यायेदृतुस्नातां संसक्तां शङ्करेण तु । कामातुरां तयोः क्रीडां किञ्चित्कालं विभावयेत्
He should meditate on the Goddess, freshly bathed after her period, united with Śaṅkara, overwhelmed by desire, and contemplate their play for a while.
अथ वह्निं समादाय पात्रेण पुरतो न्यसेत् । क्रव्यादांशं परित्यज्य पूर्वोक्तैर्वीक्षणादिभिः
Then, taking fire, he should place it in front with a vessel, discarding any impure portions, and, as previously described, gaze and perform other rites.
संस्कृत्य वह्निं रं बीजमुच्चार्य तदनन्तरम् । चैतन्यं योजयेत्तस्मिन्प्रणवेनाभिमन्त्रयेत्
Having consecrated the fire, he should then utter the syllable 'raṃ', infuse consciousness into it, and empower it with the praṇava (Oṃ).
सप्तवारं ततो धेनुमुद्रां सन्दर्शयेद्गुरुः । शरेण रक्षितं कृत्वा तनुत्रेणावगुण्ठयेत्
Then, the teacher should display the cow-mudrā seven times, protect it with the arrow-mudrā, and cover it with the body-mudrā.
अर्चितं त्रिः परिभ्राम्य प्रादक्षिण्येन सत्तमः । कुण्डोपरि जपंस्तारं जानुस्पृष्टमहीतलः
Having worshipped, he should circumambulate it three times to the right; sitting on the ground with knees touching, he should recite the mantra over the fire-pit.
शिवबीजधिया देव्या योनौ वह्निं विनिक्षिपेत् । आचामयेत्ततो देवं देवीं च जगदम्बिकाम्
With the thought of the Śiva-bīja, he should place the fire in the yoni of the Goddess, and then offer ācamana (sipping water) to the God and to the Goddess, Mother of the Universe.
चित्पिङ्गल हनदहपचयुग्मं ततः परम् । सर्वज्ञाज्ञापय स्वाहा मन्त्रोऽयं वह्निदीपने
Then, the mantra 'citpiṅgala hanadahapacayugmaṃ sarvajñājñāpaya svāhā' is for kindling the fire.
अग्निं प्रज्वलितं वन्दे जातवेदं हुताशनम् । सुवर्णवर्णममलं समिद्धं विश्वतोमुखम्
I bow to the blazing fire, the knower of all births, the carrier of offerings, golden-hued, pure, well-kindled, and facing all directions.
मन्त्रेणानेन तं वह्निं स्तुवीत परमादरात् । ततो न्यसेद्वह्निमन्त्रं षडङ्गं देशिकोत्तमः
With this mantra, he should praise the fire with great reverence; then, the best of teachers should place the six-limbed fire-mantra.
सहस्रार्चिः स्वस्तिपूर्ण उत्तिष्ठपुरुषः स्मृतः । धूमव्यापी सप्तजिह्वो धनुर्धर इति क्रमात्
He is remembered as having a thousand flames, full of auspiciousness, the risen person, pervaded by smoke, seven-tongued, and bearing a bow, in order.
जातियुक्ताः षडङ्गाः स्युः पूर्वस्थानेषु विन्यसेत् । ध्यायेद्वह्निं हेमवर्णं त्रिनेत्रं पद्मसंस्थितम्
The six limbs, endowed with their respective attributes, should be placed in their proper locations; he should meditate on the fire as golden in color, three-eyed, and seated on a lotus.
