ततो वै मूलमन्त्रेण प्रोक्षितं शङ्खमुत्तमम् । स्थापयेत्तत्र चाधारे मूलमन्त्रमनुस्मरन्
Then, with the root mantra, sprinkle the excellent conch and place it there at the base, remembering the root mantra.
अं सूर्यमण्डलायोक्त्वा द्वादशान्ते कलात्मने । अमुकदेव्यर्घ्यपात्राय नम इत्युच्चरेत्ततः
Uttering 'aṃ' for the sun circle and for the one consisting of twelve parts, then recite: 'Salutation to the offering vessel of such-and-such goddess.'
शं शङ्खाय पदं प्रोच्य नम इत्येतदुच्चरेत् । प्रोक्षयेत्तेन तं शङ्खं तस्मिन्द्वादश पूजयेत्
Recite 'śaṃ' for the conch, then 'namaḥ'; sprinkle the conch with that, and worship the twelve parts there.
सूर्यस्य द्वादश कलास्तपन्याद्या यथाक्रमम् । विलोममातृकां प्रोच्य मूलमन्त्रं विलोमकम्
The twelve parts of the sun, beginning with Tapana and others, should be recited in order; recite the reversed syllabary and the root mantra in reverse.
जलैरापूरयेच्छङ्खं तत्र चेन्दोः कलां न्यसेत् । ॐ सोममण्डलायोक्त्वान्ते षोडशकलात्मने
Fill the conch with water, and place the part of the moon there; utter 'oṃ' for the moon circle, and at the end for the one consisting of sixteen parts.
अमुकार्घ्यामृतायेति हृन्मन्त्रान्तो मनुः स्मृतः । पूजयेन्मनुना तेन जलं तु सृणिमुद्रया
Recite 'amukārghyāmṛtāya' as the heart-mantra ending; this is remembered as the mantra. Worship with that mantra, using the water and the sṛṇi-mudrā.
तीर्थान्यावाह्य तत्रैवाप्यष्टकृत्वो जपेन्मनुम् । षडङ्गानि जले न्यस्य हृदा संपूजयेदपः
Having invoked the sacred waters there, recite the mantra eight times; place the six limbs in the water, and worship the waters with the heart.
अष्टकृत्वो जपेन्मूलं छादयेन्मत्स्यमुद्रया । ततो दक्षिणदिग्भागे शङ्खस्य प्रोक्षणीं न्यसेत्
Recite the root mantra eight times, cover it with the matsya-mudrā; then, on the southern side, place the sprinkling vessel of the conch.
शङ्खाम्बु किञ्चिन्निक्षिप्य प्रोक्षयेत्तेन सर्वतः । पूजाद्रव्यं निजात्मानं विशुद्धं भावयेत्ततः
Drop a little conch water and sprinkle everything with it; then contemplate the worship materials and one's own self as purified.
श्रीनारायणाय उवाच ततः स्वपुरतो वेद्यां सर्वतोभद्रमण्डलम् । संलिख्य कर्णिकामध्यं पूरयेच्छालितण्डुलैः
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: Then, in front of oneself, on the altar, draw the auspicious mandala in all directions; fill the center with cleaned rice grains.
आस्तीर्य दर्भांस्तत्रैव न्यसेत्कूर्चं सलक्षणम् । आधारशक्तिमारभ्य पीठमन्वन्तमर्चयेत्
Spread darbha grass there and place the marked kūrca; beginning with the foundation power, worship the seat and its attendant powers.
निर्व्रणं कुम्भमादायाप्यस्त्राद्भिः क्षालितान्तरम् । तन्तुना वेष्टयेत्तं तु त्रिगुणेनारुणेन च
Take a flawless pot, cleanse its interior with weapon-mantras, and wrap it with a thread of three strands, colored red.
नवरत्नोदरं कूर्चयुतं गन्धादिपूजितम् । स्थापयेत्तत्र पीठे तु तारमन्त्रेण देशिकः
Place it on the seat, filled with nine gems, kūrca, and worshipped with fragrance and so forth, using the tāra-mantra, O teacher.
ऐक्यं कुम्भस्य पीठस्य भावयेत्पूरयेत्ततः । मातृकां प्रतिलोमेन जपंस्तीर्थोदकैर्मुने
Contemplate the unity of the pot and the seat, then fill it; recite the syllabary in reverse, O sage, using sacred waters.
मूलमन्त्रं च सञ्जप्य पूरयेद्देवताधिया । अश्वत्थपनसाम्राणां कोमलैर्नवपल्लवैः
Reciting the root mantra, he should fill the vessel with devotion to the deity, using tender new leaves of sacred fig, palmyra, and mango trees.
छादयेत्कुम्भवदनं चषकं सफलाक्षतम् । संस्थापयेत मतिमान् वस्त्रयुग्मेन वेष्टयेत्
He should cover the mouth of the pot with a cup containing fruit and unbroken rice, place it with care, and wrap it with a pair of clean cloths.
प्राणस्थापनमन्त्रेण प्राणस्थापनमाचरेत् । आवाहनादिमुद्राभिर्मोदयेद्देवतां पराम्
With the prāṇasthāpana mantra, he should perform the establishment of life, and with the gestures for invocation and so forth, he should gladden the supreme goddess.
ध्यायेत्तां परमेशानीं कल्पोक्तेन प्रकारतः । स्वागतं कुशलप्रश्नं देव्या अग्रे समुच्चरेत्
He should meditate on that supreme Lady as prescribed in the rite, and in the presence of the Goddess, offer words of welcome and inquire about her well-being.
पाद्यं दद्यात्ततोऽप्यर्घ्यं ततश्चाचमनीयकम् । मधुपर्कं च साभ्यङ्गं देव्यै स्नानं निवेदयेत्
Then he should offer water for washing the feet, then arghya, then water for sipping, and present to the Goddess a bath with scented substances and unguents, along with madhuparka.
वाससी च ततो दद्याद्रक्ते क्षौमे सुनिर्मले । नानामणिगणाकीर्णानाकल्पान्कल्पयेत्ततः
After that, he should offer garments—pure, red silk—and then adorn her with various ornaments studded with many kinds of jewels.
मनुना पुटितैर्वर्णैर्मातृकाया विधानतः । देव्या अङ्गेषु विन्यस्य चन्दनाद्यैः समर्चयेत्
With the letters of the mātṛkā, purified by mantra as prescribed, he should apply sandal and other substances to the limbs of the Goddess and worship her.
गन्धः कालागुरुभवः कर्पूरेण समन्वितः । काश्मीरं चन्दनं चापि कस्तूरीसहितं मुने
The fragrance should be from agaru, mixed with camphor, and also include saffron, sandalwood, and musk, O sage.
कुन्दपुष्पादिपुष्पाणि परदेव्यै समर्पयेत् । धूपोऽगुरुपुरुव्रातोशीरचन्दनशर्कराः
He should offer to the supreme Goddess jasmine and other flowers, and incense made from aguru, guggul, usīra, sandal, and sugar.
मधुमिश्राः स्मृता देव्याः प्रिया धूपात्मना सदा । दीपाननेकान्दत्त्वाथ नैवेद्यं दर्शयेत्सुधीः
Incense mixed with honey is always considered dear to the Goddess; then, after offering many lamps, the wise one should present the food offering.
प्रतिद्रव्यं जलं दद्यात्प्रोक्षणीस्थं न चान्यथा । ततः कुर्यादङ्गपूजां कल्पोक्तावरणानि च
For each item, he should offer water for sprinkling, never omitting it; then he should perform the worship of the limbs and the coverings as prescribed in the rite.
साङ्गां देवीमथाभ्यर्च्य वैश्वदेवं ततश्चरेत् । दक्षिणे स्थण्डिलं कृत्वा तत्राधाय हुताशनम्
Having worshipped the Goddess with all her limbs, he should then perform the Vaiśvadeva rite; placing the fire on the southern altar, he should establish the sacred fire there.
मूर्तिस्थां देवतां तत्रावाह्य संपूज्य च क्रमात् । तारव्याहृतिभिर्हुत्वा मूलमन्त्रेण वै ततः
He should invoke the deity present in the image there and worship her in order; then, with the vyāhṛti syllables and the root mantra, he should make offerings.
पञ्चविंशतिवारं तु पायसेन ससर्पिषा । हुनेत्पश्चाद्व्याहृतिभिः पुनश्च जुहुयान्मुने
He should offer, with clarified butter and milk-rice, twenty-five oblations, and afterwards, O sage, again make offerings with the vyāhṛtis.
गन्धाद्यैरर्चयित्वा च देवीं पीठे तु योजयेत् । वह्निं विसृज्य हविषा परितो विकिरेद्बलिम्
After worshipping the Goddess with fragrances and such, he should seat her on the throne; dismissing the fire with the offering, he should scatter the bali offering all around.
देवतायाः पार्षदेभ्यो गन्धपुष्पादिसंयुतान् । पञ्चोपचारान्दत्त्वाथ ताम्बूलं छत्रचामरे
He should then offer the five services, accompanied by fragrance and flowers, to the attendants of the deity, and present betel, umbrella, and fan.
