गुरुस्तु विधिवत्प्रातः कृत्यं सर्वं विधाय च । स्नानसन्ध्यादिकं सर्वं यथाविधि विधाय च
The guru, having properly completed all morning duties according to prescribed rules, and having performed all acts such as bathing and the sandhyā ritual as prescribed,
कमण्डलुकरो मौनी गृहं यायात्सरित्तटात् । यागमण्डपमासाद्य विशेत्तत्रासने वरे
holding a water pot and observing silence, should go from the riverbank to his house; reaching the sacrificial pavilion, he should enter and sit on the best seat there.
आचम्य प्राणानायम्य गन्धपुष्पविमिश्रितम् । सप्तवारास्त्रमन्त्रेण जप्तं वारि सुसाधयेत्
After sipping water and controlling the breath, he should prepare water mixed with fragrance and flowers, having recited the mantra seven times over it.
वारिणा तेन मतिमानस्त्रमन्त्रं समुच्चरन् । प्रोक्षयेद्द्वारमखिलं ततः पूजां समाचरेत्
With that water, while reciting the mantra with focused mind, he should sprinkle the entire entrance, and then proceed to perform the worship.
ऊर्ध्वोदुम्बरके देवं गणनाथं तथा श्रियम् । सरस्वतीं नाममन्त्रैः पूजयेद्गन्धपुष्पकैः
On an elevated fig-wood platform, he should worship the deity, the Lord of Hosts, Śrī, and Sarasvatī with their respective name-mantras, offering fragrance and flowers.
द्वारदक्षिणशाखायां गङ्गां विघ्नेशमर्चयेत् । द्वारस्य वामशाखायां क्षेत्रपालं च सूर्यजाम्
On the right side of the entrance, he should worship Gaṅgā and Gaṇeśa; on the left side of the entrance, he should worship Kṣetrapāla and Sūryajā.
देहल्यां पूजयेदस्त्रदेवतामस्त्रमन्त्रतः । सर्वं देवीमयं दृश्यमिति सञ्चिन्त्य सर्वतः
On the threshold, he should worship the guardian deities of weapons with the weapon-mantra, contemplating everywhere that all is pervaded by the Goddess.
दिव्यानुत्सारयेद्विघ्नानस्त्रमन्त्रजपेन तु । अन्तरिक्षगतान्विघ्नान्पादघातैस्तु भूमिगान् ॥ १४ वामशाखां स्पृशन्पश्चात्प्रविशेद्दक्षिणाङ्घ्रिणा । प्रविश्य कुम्भं संस्थाप्य सामान्यार्घ्यं विधाय च
He should dispel all obstacles of divine origin by reciting the weapon-mantra, and those in the sky by stamping his feet, and those on the earth likewise; then, touching the left side of the entrance, he should enter with his right foot, place the pot inside, and prepare the general offering.
तेन चार्घ्यजलेनापि नैर्ऋत्यां दिशि पूजयेत् । वास्तुनाथं पद्मयोनिं गन्धपुष्पाक्षतादिभिः
With that offering water, he should worship in the southwest direction the Lord of the Site and Padmayoni, with fragrance, flowers, rice grains, and the like.
ततः कुर्यात्पञ्चगव्यं तेन चार्घ्योदकेन च । तोरणस्तम्भपर्यन्तं प्रोक्षयेन्मण्डपं गुरुः
Then he should prepare pañcagavya, and with that offering water, the guru should sprinkle the pavilion up to the gateway pillars.
सर्वं देवीमयं चेदं भावयेन्मनसा किल । मूलमन्त्रं जपन्भक्त्या प्रोक्षणं स्याच्छराणुना
He should mentally contemplate that all this is pervaded by the Goddess, and, reciting the root-mantra with devotion, perform the sprinkling with the śara (arrow) mantra.
शरमन्त्रं समुच्चार्य ताडयेन्मण्डपक्षमाम् । हुंमन्त्रं तु समुच्चार्य कुर्यादभ्युक्षणं ततः
Reciting the śara-mantra, he should strike the side of the pavilion, and then, reciting the huṃ-mantra, he should perform the aspersion.
धूपयेदन्तरं धूपैर्विकिरान् विकिरेत्ततः । मार्जयेत्तांस्तु मार्जन्या कुशनिर्मितया पुनः
He should fumigate the interior with incense, then scatter offerings, and again purify those places with a broom made of kuśa grass.
ईशानदिशि तत्पुञ्जं कृत्वा संस्थापयेन्मुने । पुण्याहवाचनं कृत्वा दीनानाथांश्च तोषयेत्
Having gathered that heap in the northeast direction, he should set it there, O sage; after performing the puṇyāhavācana rite, he should satisfy the poor and the helpless.
विशेन्मृद्वासने पश्चान्नमस्कृत्य गुरुं निजम् । प्राङ्मुखो विधिवद्ध्यात्वा देयमन्त्रस्य देवताम्
Then, sitting on a soft seat, he should bow to his own guru; facing east, he should properly meditate on the deity of the mantra to be given.
भूतशुद्ध्यादिकं कृत्वा पूर्वोक्तेनैव वर्त्मना । ऋष्यादिन्यासकं कुर्याद्देयमन्त्रस्य वै मुने
Having performed bhūtaśuddhi and related rites as previously described, he should perform the ṛṣi and other nyāsas for the mantra to be given, O sage.
न्यसेन्मुनिं तु शिरसि मुखे छन्दः समीरितम् । देवतां हृदयाम्भोजे गुह्ये बीजं तु पादयोः
He should place the seer on the head, the meter on the mouth, the deity in the lotus of the heart, and the seed syllable at the feet.
शक्तिं विन्यस्य पश्चात्तु तालत्रयरवात्ततः । दिग्बन्धं कारयेत्पश्चाच्छोटिकाभिस्त्रिभिर्नरः
Then, after placing the śakti, and upon hearing the three claps, he should perform the binding of the directions, and then make three snaps of the fingers.
प्राणायामं ततः कृत्वा मूलमन्त्रमनुस्मरन् । मातृकां विन्यसेद्देहे तत्प्रकारस्तथोच्यते
Then, having performed breath control and remembering the root mantra, one should place the letters (mātṛkā) upon the body; the method for this is now described.
ॐ अं नम इति प्रोच्य न्यसेच्छिरसि मन्त्रवित् । एवमेव तु सर्वेषु न्यसेत्स्थानेषु वै मुने
Uttering 'Om am namaḥ', the knower of mantra should place it on the head; in the same way, O sage, he should place it at all the prescribed locations.
मूलमन्त्रं षडङ्गं च न्यसेदङ्गेषु सत्तमः । अङ्गुष्ठादिष्वङ्गुलीषु हृदयादिषु च क्रमात्
The excellent one should place the six-limbed root mantra upon the limbs, sequentially on the fingers beginning with the thumb, and on the heart and other places.
नमः स्वाहावषड्युक्तैर्हुंवौषट्फट्पदान्वितैः । प्रणवादियुतैर्मन्त्रैः षड्भिरेव षडङ्गकम्
With the words 'namaḥ', 'svāhā', 'vaṣaṭ', 'huṃ', 'vauṣaṭ', and 'phaṭ', joined with praṇava and other syllables, the six-limbed mantra is formed by these six.
वर्णन्यासादिकं पश्चान्मूलमन्त्रस्य योजयेत् । स्थानेषु तत्तत्कल्पोक्तेष्विति न्यासविधिः स्मृतः
After the placement of the letters and so forth, one should apply the root mantra at the locations prescribed by tradition; thus is the method of nyāsa remembered.
ततो निजे शरीरेऽस्मिंश्चिन्तयेदासनं शुभम् । दक्षांसे च न्यसेद्धर्मं वामांसे ज्ञानमेव च
Then, within one's own body, one should contemplate an auspicious seat; on the right thigh place dharma, and on the left thigh, knowledge.
वामोरौ चापि वैराग्यं दक्षोरावथ विन्यसेत् । ऐश्वर्यं मुखदेशे तु मुने ध्यायेदधर्मकम्
On the left knee, place detachment, and on the right knee, similarly; on the face, O sage, meditate on lordship, and on the face, also contemplate adharma.
वामपार्श्वे नाभिदेशे दक्षपार्श्वे तथा पुनः । नञादीश्चापि ज्ञानादीन्पूर्वोक्तानेव विन्यसेत्
On the left side at the navel region, and again on the right side, one should place the previously mentioned nañ and other (letters) as well as knowledge and so forth.
पादा धर्मादयः प्रोक्ताः पीठस्य मुनिसत्तम । अधर्माद्यास्तु गात्राणि स्मृतानि मुनिपुङ्गवैः
O best of sages, the feet are said to represent dharma and the rest, as the seat; but adharma and the rest are considered the limbs by eminent sages.
मध्येऽनन्तं हृदि स्थाने न्यसेन्मृद्वासने स्थले । प्रपञ्चपद्मं विमलं तस्मिन्सूर्येन्दुपावकान्
In the center, at the heart, on a soft seat, one should place Ananta; upon that, draw the pure lotus of the world, and within it, the sun, moon, and fire.
न्यसेत्कलायुतान्मन्त्री संक्षेपात्ता वदाम्यहम् । सूर्यस्य द्वादश कलास्ता इन्दोः षोडश स्मृताः
The practitioner should place the rays (kalā) there; I will briefly state them: the sun is said to have twelve rays, and the moon sixteen.
दश वह्नेः कलाः प्रोक्तास्ताभिर्युक्तांस्तु तान्स्मरेत् । सत्त्वं रजस्तमश्चैव न्यसेत्तेषामथोपरि
The fire is said to have ten rays; remembering them together, one should then place sattva, rajas, and tamas above them.
