एवं विधानं सन्ध्यायाः प्रातःकाले प्रकीर्तितम् । सन्ध्याकर्म समाप्यान्तेऽप्यग्निहोत्रं स्वयं हुनेत्
Thus, the procedure for the morning Sandhyā has been described; after completing the Sandhyā rites, one should perform the Agnihotra oneself.
पञ्चायतनपूजां च ततः कुर्यात्समाहितः । शिवां शिवं गणपतिं सूर्यं विष्णुं तथार्चयेत्
Then, with collected mind, one should perform the worship of the five deities: one should worship Śivā, Śiva, Gaṇapati, Sūrya, and Viṣṇu.
पौरुषेण तु सूक्तेन व्याहृत्या वा समाहितः । मूलमन्त्रेण वा कुर्याद्ह्रीश्च ते इति मन्त्रतः
With the Pauruṣa Sūkta, or with the Vyāhṛtis, or with the root mantra, one should worship, reciting the mantra 'Hrīśca te.'
भवानीं तु यजेन्मध्ये तथैशान्यां तु माधवम् । आग्नेय्यां गिरिजानाथं गणेशं रक्षसां दिशि
One should worship Bhavānī in the center, Mādhava in the northeast, Girijā's Lord in the southeast, Gaṇeśa in the direction of the demons.
वायव्यामर्चयेत्सूर्यमिति देवस्थितिक्रमः । षोडशानुपचारांश्च षोडशर्ग्भिर्हरेन्नरः
In the northwest, one should worship Sūrya; this is the order of the deities' placement. A person should offer sixteen services with sixteen offerings.
देवीमभ्यर्च्य पुरतो यजेदन्याननुक्रमात् । न देवीपूजनात्पुण्यमधिकं क्वचिदीक्ष्यते
Having worshipped the Goddess in front, one should then worship the others in order; nowhere is merit seen to be greater than from worship of the Goddess.
अत एव तु सन्ध्यासु सन्ध्योपास्तिः श्रुतीरिता । नाक्षतैरर्चयेर्द्विष्णुं न तुलस्या गणेश्वरम्
Therefore, in the Sandhyā rites, worship of Sandhyā is prescribed by the scriptures; one should not worship Viṣṇu with rice grains, nor Gaṇeśa with tulasī.
दूर्वाभिर्नार्चयेद्दुर्गां केतकैर्न महेश्वरम् । मल्लिकाजातिकुसुमं कुटजं पनसं तथा
One should not worship Durgā with dūrvā grass, nor Maheśvara with ketaka flowers; nor with jasmine, jātī, kuṭaja, or jackfruit flowers.
किंशुकं बकुलं कुन्दं लोध्रं तु करवीरकम् । शिंशपाऽपराजितापुष्पं बब्धूकागस्त्यपुष्पके
Nor with kiṃśuka, bakula, kunda, lodhra, karavīra, śiṃśapā, aparājitā flowers, nor with babdhūka or agastya flowers.
मदन्तं सिन्दुवारं च पालाशकुसुमं तथा । दूर्वाङ्कुरं बिल्वदलं कुशमञ्जरिकां तथा
Nor with madanta, sinduvāra, pālāśa flowers, dūrvā sprouts, bilva leaves, or kuśa grass inflorescence.
शल्लकीमाधवीपुष्पमर्कमन्दारपुष्पकम् । केतकीं कर्णिकारं च कदम्बकुसुमं तथा
Nor with śallakī, mādhavī flowers, arka, mandāra flowers, ketakī, karṇikāra, or kadamba flowers.
पुन्नागश्चम्पकस्तद्वद्यूथिकातगरौ तथा । एवमादीनि पुष्पाणि देवीप्रियकराणि च
Nor with punnāga, campaka, yūthikā, tagara, or similar flowers; such flowers are dear to the Goddess.
गुग्गुलस्य भवेद्धूपो दीपः स्यात्तिलतैलतः । कृत्वेत्थं देवतापूजां ततो मूलमनुं जपेत्
One should offer incense of guggul and a lamp fueled with sesame oil; having thus performed the worship of the deity, then recite the root mantra.
एवं पूजां समाप्यैव वेदाभ्यासं चरेद्बुधः । ततः स्ववृत्त्या कुर्वीत पोष्यवर्गार्थसाधनम् । तृतीयदिनभागे तु नियमेन विचक्षणः
Having thus completed the worship, the wise should study the Vedas; then, by their own occupation, provide for those who depend on them; and in the third part of the day, with discipline, act with discernment.
बृहद्रथकथानकम् नारद उवाच पूजाविशेषं श्रीदेव्याः श्रोतुमिच्छामि मानद । येनाश्रितेन मनुजः कृतकृत्यत्वमावहेत्
Nārada said: O giver of honor, I wish to hear the special mode of worship of the blessed Goddess, by which a person, following it, attains fulfillment.
श्रीनारायण उवाच देवर्षे शृणु वक्ष्यामि श्रीमत्सु पूजनक्रमम् । भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं साक्षात्समस्तापन्निवारणम्
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: O sage among the gods, listen as I explain the auspicious sequence of worship, which directly grants enjoyment and liberation, and removes all calamities.
आचम्य मौनी सङ्कल्प्य भूतशुद्ध्यादिकं चरेत् । मातृकान्यासपूर्वं तु षडङ्गन्यासमाचरेत्
After performing ācāmanam, maintaining silence, and making a resolve, one should carry out purification of the elements and related rites; then, preceded by the placement of the mātṛkā-nyāsa, perform the sixfold nyāsa.
शङ्खस्य स्थापनं कृत्वा सामान्यार्घ्यं विधाय च । पूजाद्रव्याणि चास्त्रेण प्रोक्षयेन्मतिमान्नरः
Having established the conch and prepared the general arghya offering, the wise person should sprinkle the worship materials with the appropriate mantra.
गुरोरनुज्ञामादाय ततः पूजां समारभेत् । पीठपूजां पुरा कृत्वा देवीं ध्यायेत्ततः परम्
Having obtained the guru’s permission, one should then begin the worship; first worship the seat, and then meditate upon the Goddess.
आसनाद्युपचारैश्च भक्तिप्रेमयुतः सदा । स्नापयेत्परदेवीं तां पञ्चामृतरसादिभिः
With offerings such as seat and others, always filled with devotion and love, one should bathe the supreme Goddess with the five nectars and other substances.
पौण्ड्रेक्षुरसपूर्णैस्तु कलशैः शतसंख्यकैः । स्तापयेद्यो महेशानीं न स भूयोऽभिजायते
He who establishes the great Goddess with a hundred pots filled with pure sugarcane juice is not born again.
यश्च चूतरसैरेवं स्नापयेज्जगदम्बिकाम् । वेदपारायणं कृत्वा रसेनेक्षूद्भवेन वा
And he who bathes the Mother of the Universe with mango juice in this way, or recites the Vedas while using sugarcane juice, attains the same result.
तद्गेहं न त्यजेन्नित्यं रमा चैव सरस्वती । यस्तु द्राक्षारसेनैव वेदपारायणं चरन्
In that house, Lakṣmī and Sarasvatī always reside and never depart; and he who recites the Vedas while using grape juice—
अभिषिञ्चेन्महेशानीं सकुटुम्बो नरोत्तमः । रसरेणुप्रमाणं च देवीलोके महीयते
—and bathes the great Goddess with his family, is honored in the realm of the Goddess in proportion to the quantity of juice and powder used.
कर्पूरागुरुकाश्मीरकस्तूरीपङ्कपङ्किलैः । सलिलैः स्नापयेद्देवीं वेदपारायणं चरन्
Bathing the Goddess with water scented with camphor, aguru, saffron, and musk, while reciting the Vedas, brings great merit.
भस्मीभवन्ति पापानि शतजन्मार्जितानि च । यो दुग्धकलशैर्देवीं स्तापयेद्वेदपाठतः
The sins accumulated over a hundred births are reduced to ashes for one who establishes the Goddess with pots of milk while reciting the Vedas.
आकल्पं स वसेन्नित्यं तस्मिन् वै क्षीरसागरे । यस्तु दध्नाभिषिञ्चेत्तां दधिकुल्यापतिर्भवेत्
He dwells eternally in the ocean of milk as long as he wishes; and he who bathes her with curd becomes the lord of the streams of curd.
मधुना च धृतेनैव तथा शर्करयापि च । स्नापयेन्मधुकुल्यादिनदीनां स पतिर्भवेत्
Bathing her with honey, clarified butter, and also with sugar, he becomes the lord of the rivers of honey and the like.
सहस्रकलशैर्देवीं स्नापयन्भक्तितत्परः । इह लोके सुखी भूत्वाप्यन्यलोके सुखी भवेत्
He who, devoted to worship, bathes the Goddess with a thousand pots, becomes happy in this world and also in the next.
क्षौमं वस्त्रद्वयं दत्त्वा वायुलोकं स गच्छति । रत्ननिर्मितभूषाणां दाता निधिपतिर्भवेत्
By giving two linen garments, one attains the world of the wind-gods; the giver of ornaments made of jewels becomes the lord of treasures.
