चतुर्मुखस्तु रुद्राक्षः पितामहस्वरूपकः । तद्धारणान्महाश्रीमान्महदारोग्यमुत्तमम्
The four-faced Rudraksha is the form of the grandfather (Brahma); by wearing it, one attains great prosperity and supreme health.
महती ज्ञानसम्पत्तिः शुद्धये धारयेन्नरः । पञ्चमुखस्तु रुद्राक्षः पञ्चब्रह्मस्वरूपकः
A person should wear it for great attainment of knowledge and purification; the five-faced Rudraksha is the form of the five Brahmas.
तस्य धारणमात्रेण सन्तुष्यति महेश्वरः । षड्वक्त्रश्चैव रुद्राक्षः कार्तिकेयाधिदैवतः
By merely wearing it, the great Lord is pleased; the six-faced Rudraksha is presided over by Kartikeya.
विनायकं चापि देवं प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः । सप्तवक्त्रस्तु रुद्राक्षः सप्तमात्राधिदैवतः
Wise men declare that the deity Vinayaka is associated with it; the seven-faced Rudraksha is presided over by the Seven Mothers.
सप्ताश्वदैवतश्चैव मुनिसप्तकदैवतः । तद्धारणान्महाश्रीः स्यान्महदारोग्यमुत्तमम्
It is also presided over by the Seven Horses and the Seven Sages; by wearing it, one attains great prosperity and supreme health.
महती ज्ञानसम्पत्तिः शुचिर्वै धारयेन्नरः । अष्टवक्त्रस्तु रुद्राक्षोऽप्यष्टमात्राधिदैवतः
A person who wears it attains great wealth of knowledge and purity; the eight-faced Rudraksha is presided over by the Eight Mothers.
वस्वष्टकप्रीतिकरो गङ्गाप्रीतिकरः शुभः । तद्धारणादिमे प्रीता भवेयुः सत्यवादिनः
It brings the favor of the eight Vasus and of Ganga, and is auspicious; by wearing it, these truthful beings become pleased.
नववक्त्रस्तु रुद्राक्षो यमदेव उदाहृतः । तद्धारणाद्यमभयं न भवत्येव सर्वथा
The nine-faced Rudraksha is said to be associated with Yama; by wearing it, there is never any fear from Yama in any way.
दशवक्त्रस्तु रुद्राक्षो दशाशादैवतः स्मृतः । दशाशाप्रीतिजनको धारणे नात्र संशयः
The ten-faced Rudraksha is known to be presided over by the ten directions; there is no doubt that it brings the favor of the guardians of the ten directions when worn.
एकादशमुखस्त्वक्षो रुद्रैकादशदैवतः । तमिन्द्रदैवतं चाहुः सदा सौख्यविवर्धनम्
The eleven-faced Rudraksha is presided over by the eleven Rudras; it is also said to be associated with Indra and always increases happiness.
रुद्राक्षो द्वादशमुखो महाविष्णुस्वरूपकः । द्वादशादित्यदैवश्च बिभर्त्येव हि तत्परः
The twelve-faced Rudraksha is of the form of the great Vishnu; it is also presided over by the twelve Adityas, and the devoted one surely wears it.
त्रयोदशमुखश्चाक्षः कामदः सिद्धिदः शुभः । तस्य धारणमात्रेण कामदेवः प्रसीदति
The thirteen-faced Rudraksha grants desires and success, and is auspicious; by merely wearing it, Kamadeva is pleased.
चतुर्दशमुखश्चाक्षो रुद्रनेत्रसमुद्भवः । सर्वव्याधिहरश्चैव सर्वारोग्यप्रदायकः
The fourteen-faced Rudraksha is said to have arisen from the eye of Rudra; it removes all diseases and bestows complete health.
मद्यं मांसं च लशुनं पलाण्डुं शिग्रुमेव च । श्लेष्मातकं विड्वराहं भक्षणे वर्जयेत्ततः
Therefore, one should avoid consuming alcohol, meat, garlic, onion, horse-radish, the slesmataka fruit, and wild boar.
ग्रहणे विषुवे चैव सङ्क्रमे त्वयने तथा । दर्शे च पौर्णमासे च पुण्येषु दिवसेष्वपि । रुद्राक्षधारणात्सद्यः सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
By wearing Rudraksha during eclipses, solstices, equinoxes, new and full moon days, and other auspicious days, one is immediately freed from all sins.
भूतशुद्धिवर्णनम् श्रीनारायण उवाच भूतशुद्धिप्रकारं च कथयामि महामुने । मूलाधारात्समुत्थाय कुण्डलीं परदेवताम्

सुषुम्णामार्गमाश्रित्य ब्रह्मरन्ध्रगतां स्मरेत् । जीवं ब्रह्मणि संयोज्य हंसमन्त्रेण साधकः
Taking the path of the sushumna, one should meditate on her reaching the Brahmarandhra; uniting the soul with Brahman, the practitioner uses the mantra 'hamsa.'
पादादिजानुपर्यन्तं चतुष्कोणं सवज्रकम् । लं बीजाख्यं स्वर्णवर्णं स्मरेदवनिमण्डलम्
From the feet up to the knees, one should visualize a four-sided figure with a thunderbolt, golden in color, with the seed-syllable 'lam'—this is the earth mandala.
जान्वाद्यानाभिचन्द्रार्धनिभं पद्मद्वयाङ्कितम् । वं बीजयुक्तं श्वेताभमम्भसो मण्डलं स्मरेत्
From the knees up to the navel, shining like the half-moon and marked with two lotuses, with the seed-syllable 'vam,' white in appearance—one should visualize the water mandala.
नाभेर्हृदयपर्यन्तं त्रिकोणं स्वस्तिकान्वितम् । रं बीजेन युतं रक्तं स्मरेत्पावकमण्डलम्
From the navel up to the heart, a triangle marked with a swastika, red in color with the seed-syllable 'ram'—one should visualize the fire mandala.
हृदो भूमध्यपर्यन्तं वृत्तं षड्बिन्दुलाञ्छितम् । यं बीजयुक्तं धूम्राभं नभस्वन्मण्डलं स्मरेत्
One should contemplate the circular region, marked with six dots, extending from the heart to the center of the earth, which is endowed with the seed-syllable, smoky in appearance, and is the sphere of ether.
आब्रह्मरन्ध्रं भ्रूमध्याद्वृत्तं स्वच्छं मनोहरम् । हं बीजयुक्तमाकाशमण्डलं च विचिन्तयेत्
One should further meditate on the clear, delightful, circular sphere of ether, extending from the space between the eyebrows up to the crown of the head, endowed with the 'haṃ' seed-syllable.
एवं भूतानि सञ्चिन्त्य प्रत्येकं संविलापयेत् । भुवं जले जलं वह्नौ वह्निं वायौ नभस्यमुम्
Having thus contemplated these elements, one should dissolve each in turn: earth into water, water into fire, fire into air, and air into ether.
विलाप्य खमहङ्कारे महत्तत्त्वेऽप्यहङ्कृतिम् । महान्तं प्रकृतौ मायामात्मनि प्रविलापयेत्
Dissolving ether into the sense of ego, the ego into the great principle, and the great principle into primordial nature, one should merge primordial nature into the Self.
शुद्धसंविन्मयो भूत्वा चिन्तयेत्पापपूरुषम् । वामकुक्षिस्थितं कृष्णमङ्गुष्ठपरिमाणकम्
Becoming pure consciousness, one should contemplate the embodiment of sin, black in color, the size of a thumb, situated in the left side of the abdomen.
ब्रह्महत्याशिरोयुक्तं कनकस्तेयबाहुकम् । मदिरापानहृदयं गुरुतल्पकटीयुतम्
It has the head of Brahmanicide, arms of gold theft, a heart of wine drinking, and hips associated with the sin of violating the teacher's bed.
तत्संसर्गिपदद्वन्द्वमुपपातकमस्तकम् । खड्गचर्मधरं कृष्णमधोवक्त्रं सुदुःसहम्
Its feet are joined with the sin of association, its head with incidental sins; it is black, holds a sword and shield, has a downward-facing mouth, and is exceedingly terrible.
वायुबीजं स्मरन्वायुं सम्पूर्यैनं विशोषयेत् । स्वशरीरयुतं मन्त्रो वह्निबीजेन निर्दहेत्
Remembering the seed-syllable of air, one should fill it with air and dry it up; then, with the mantra united with one's own body, burn it with the seed-syllable of fire.
कुम्भके परिजप्तेन ततः पापनरोद्भवम् । बहिर्भस्म समुत्सार्य वायुबीजेन रेचयेत्
Having recited during retention, then, with the seed-syllable of air, expel the ashes, which arise from the destruction of sin, outward.
सुधाबीजेन देहोत्थं भस्म संप्लावयेत्सुधीः । भूबीजेन घनीकृत्य भस्म तत्कनकाण्डवत्
With the seed-syllable of nectar, the wise should flood the body with the ashes produced, and with the seed-syllable of earth, solidify the ashes like a golden staff.
