There was a shower of flowers from the sky above the assembly; by the command of the beloved of the gods, and by the order of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—
He praised her, his eyes filled with tears, his body thrilled with joy. Purandara said: O Goddess, I wish to praise you, the foremost and best among the virtuous women.
You who are supreme beyond the supreme, the highest—yet I am not able to praise you now; the nature of hymns in the Veda is to declare your essential being.
I am not able, by my nature, to recount the measure of your qualities; you are of pure sattva, free from anger, violence, and the like.
Nor is any sage able to abandon the request he has made, for you have been worshipped by me, O virtuous one, as Aditi is by her son.
You are compassion embodied, like a sister; you are patience embodied, like a mother; by you, my life, my sons, and my wife have been protected, O Queen of the gods.
I perform your worship, and may my love for you ever increase; though you are always worthy of worship everywhere, O Mother of the world—
Still, I increase your worship, O Queen of the gods; those who worship you with devotion at the time of Ashadha Sankranti—
On the fifth day called Manasa, at the end of the month or every day—their sons, grandsons, and wealth will increase.
They will be renowned, celebrated, learned, and endowed with virtues; but those who do not worship you, and who, out of ignorance, speak ill—
Those who are deprived of Lakshmi will always have fear of serpents; but you yourself are all Lakshmi, dwelling in Vaikuntha, the abode of lotuses.
The venerable sage Jaratkaru, a portion of Narayana, by his austerity, brilliance, and mind, created you, O Mother.
For our protection, therefore, you were invoked by his mind; by the power of mind, O Goddess, you are the accomplished yogini, manifesting from your own self.
Therefore, O Goddess, you are worshipped and praised by the mind; those gods who worship you constantly and devotedly with their minds—
Therefore, the wise call you the goddess of the mind; O Goddess, you are the embodiment of truth, ever devoted to eternal truth.
Whoever contemplates you constantly, that person attains you, O Supreme One; and Indra, having praised you with his mind and received the boon of a sister—
He returned to his own abode, adorned and accompanied by his retinue; and that goddess remained for a long time in her father's house with her son.
Ever honored and worshipped by her brothers, respected and praised everywhere; O Brahman, Surabhi came from Goloka and was duly worshipped there.
Having bathed her with milk, she worshipped her with great reverence; and revealed all secret and most rare knowledge.
Having been worshipped by her, the gods returned again to heaven; one should worship and recite the Indra-hymn, the auspicious seed of the Manasa hymn.
He will have no fear of serpents, nor will his descendants; for him, poison becomes like nectar, when the hymn is perfected.
By reciting it five hundred thousand times, a man perfects the hymn; he will certainly become one who lies on serpents, or one who rides serpents.
Nārada said: Who is that goddess Surabhi, who came from Goloka? O Brahman, I wish to hear her birth and deeds, with great attention.

By his play, he created the goddess Surabhi from his left side, with a calf, full of milk, and the calf was named Manoratha.
Śrīdāmā, seeing the calf, milked it into a new vessel; the milk was more than nectar, and removed birth, death, and old age.
