सारे च मङ्गलाधारे पारे च सर्वकर्मणाम् । प्रतिमङ्गलवारे च पूज्ये मङ्गसुखप्रदे
Essence and foundation of auspiciousness, ultimate in all actions, on every auspicious Tuesday, you are to be worshipped, bestower of auspicious happiness.
स्तोत्रेणानेन शम्भुश्च स्तुत्वा मङ्गलचण्डिकाम् । प्रतिमङ्गलवारे च पूजां दत्त्वा गतः शिवः
With this hymn, Śambhu praised Maṅgala Caṇḍikā; on every auspicious Tuesday, having offered worship, Śiva departed.
प्रथमे पूजिता देवी शिवेन सर्वमङ्गला । द्वितीये पूजिता सा च मङ्गलेन ग्रहेण च
First, the goddess of all auspiciousness was worshipped by Śiva; second, she was worshipped by Maṅgala, the planet.
तृतीते पूजिता भद्रा मङ्गलेन नृपेण च । चतुर्थे मङ्गले वारे सुन्दरीभिः प्रपूजिता
Third, Bhadrā was worshipped by Maṅgala, the king; on the fourth auspicious Tuesday, she was worshipped by beautiful women.
पञ्चमे मङ्गलाकाङ्क्षिनरैर्मङ्गलचण्डिका । पूजिता प्रतिविश्वेषु विश्वेशपूजिता सदा
On the fifth, Maṅgala Caṇḍikā was worshipped by those desiring auspiciousness; she is always worshipped in every world, worshipped by the lord of the universe.
ततः सर्वत्र सम्पूज्या बभूव परमेश्वरी । देवैश्च मुनिभिश्चैव मानवैर्मनुभिर्मुने
Thereafter, the Supreme Goddess became worthy of worship everywhere, by gods, sages, and humans, O sage descended from Manu.
देव्याश्च मङ्गस्तोत्रं यः शृणोति समाहितः । तन्मङ्गलं भवेत्तस्य न भवेत्तदमङ्गलम् । वर्धते पुत्रपौत्रैश्च मङ्गलं च दिने दिने
Whoever listens with concentration to the auspicious hymn of the goddess, for them auspiciousness arises, not inauspiciousness; auspiciousness increases day by day with sons and grandsons.
श्रीनारायण उवाच उक्तं द्वयोरुपाख्यानं ब्रह्मपुत्र यथागमम् । श्रूयतां मनसाऽऽख्यानं यच्छ्रुतं धर्मवक्त्रतः
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The two stories have been told according to tradition, O son of Brahma; now hear the account of Manasā, as heard from the mouth of Dharma.
सा च कन्या भगवती कश्यपस्य च मानसी । तेनैव मनसा देवी मनसा या च दीव्यति
That maiden, the blessed one, is the mind-born daughter of Kaśyapa; by mind alone, the goddess shines, and by mind she is divine.
मनसा ध्यायते या च परमात्मानमीश्वरम् । तेन सा मनसा देवी तेन योगेन दीव्यति
She who meditates by mind upon the Supreme Self, the Lord; thus, by mind, the goddess, by that yoga, shines.
आत्मारामा च सा देवी वैष्णवी सिद्धयोगिनी । त्रियुगं च तपस्तप्त्वा कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः
That goddess delights in the Self, is a devotee of Viṣṇu, a perfected yogini; after performing austerities for three ages for Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Self.
जरत्कारुशरीरं च दृष्ट्वा यत्क्षीणमीश्वरः । गोपीपतिर्नाम चक्रे जरत्कारुरिति प्रभुः
Seeing the body of Jaratkāru weakened, the Lord, the husband of the gopīs, gave her the name Jaratkāru.
वाञ्छितं च ददौ तस्यै कृपया च कृपानिधिः । पूजां च कारयामास चकार च स्वयं प्रभुः
He, the ocean of mercy, granted her wish out of compassion; the Lord himself arranged and performed her worship.
स्वर्गे च नागलोके च पृथिव्यां ब्रह्मलोकतः । भृशं जगत्सु गौरी सा सुन्दरी च मनोहरा । ४४ जगद्गौरीति विख्याता तेन सा पूजिता सती । शिवशिष्या च सा देवी तेन शैवी प्रकीर्तिता
In heaven, in the world of serpents, on earth, and from the world of Brahma, Gaurī, beautiful and enchanting, is renowned in the worlds as Jagadgaurī; thus she was worshipped as Satī, disciple of Śiva, and therefore called Śaivī.
विष्णुभक्तातीव शश्वद्वैष्णवी तेन कीर्तिता । नागानां प्राणरक्षित्री यज्ञे पारीक्षितस्य च
Because of her constant devotion to Viṣṇu, she is called Vaiṣṇavī; she is the protector of the lives of serpents and was tested in sacrifice by Parīkṣit.
नागेश्वरीति विख्याता सा नागभगिनीति च । विषं संहर्तुमीशा या तेन विषहरी स्मृता
She is known as Nāgeśvarī, the serpent queen, and Nāgabhaginī, the serpent sister; she who is able to destroy poison is remembered as Viṣaharī.
सिद्धयोगं हरात्प्राप तेन सा सिद्धयोगिनी । महाज्ञानं च योगं च मृतसज्जीवनीं पराम्
She obtained the yoga of accomplishments from Hara, and thus became a perfected yogini, possessing great knowledge, mastery of yoga, and the supreme power to revive the dead.
महाज्ञानयुतां तां च प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः । आस्तीकस्य मुनीन्द्रस्य माता सापि तपस्विनी
The wise declare that she, endowed with great knowledge, was the ascetic mother of the eminent sage Astika.
आस्तीकमाता विज्ञाता जगत्यां सुप्रतिष्ठिता । प्रिया मुनेर्जरत्कारोर्मुनीन्द्रस्य महात्मनः
Known as Astika's mother, she is well established in the world, beloved of the great sage Jaratkaru.
योगिनो विश्वपूज्यस्य जरत्कारुप्रिया ततः । जरत्कारुर्जगद्गौरी मनसा सिद्धयोगिनी
She, the beloved of Jaratkaru—who is honored by yogis throughout the world—became a perfected yogini in mind, and is revered as the mother of Astika.
वैष्णवी नागभगिनी शैवी नागेश्वरी तथा । जरत्कारुप्रियास्तीकमाता विषहरेति च
She is called Vaishnavi, sister of the Nagas, Shaivi, queen of the Nagas, beloved of Jaratkaru, mother of Astika, and also Vishahari (the poison-remover).
महाज्ञानयुता चैव सा देवी विश्वपूजिता । द्वादशैतानि नामानि पूजाकाले तु यः पठेत्
Endowed with great knowledge, that goddess is worshipped by all; whoever recites these twelve names at the time of worship—
तस्य नागभयं नास्ति तस्य वंशोद्भवस्य च । नागभीते च शयने नागग्रस्ते च मन्दिरे
—for him and his descendants, there is no fear of serpents; whether lying in fear of serpents or seized by a serpent in the house—
नागशोभे महादुर्गे नागवेष्टितविग्रहे । इदं स्तोत्रं पठित्वा तु मुच्यते नात्र संशयः
—in the splendor of serpents, in great danger, or when the body is encircled by serpents—by reciting this hymn, one is freed, without doubt.
नित्यं पठेद्यस्तं दृष्ट्वा नागवर्गः पलायते । दशलक्षजपेनैव स्तोत्रसिद्धिर्भवेन्नृणाम्
Whoever recites it daily—upon seeing him, the host of serpents flees; by reciting the hymn one hundred thousand times, its power is attained by people.
स्तोत्रसिद्धिर्भवेद्यस्य स विषं भोक्तुमीश्वरः । नागैश्च भूषणं कृत्वा स भवेन्नागवाहनः
For one who attains the power of this hymn, he becomes able to consume poison; adorned by serpents, he becomes one who rides upon serpents.
नागासनो नागतल्पो महासिद्धो भवेन्नरः । अन्ते च विष्णुना सार्धं क्रीडत्येव दिवानिशम्
Seated upon serpents, reclining upon a serpent-bed, that person becomes a great adept; and in the end, he plays day and night together with Vishnu.
मनसोपाख्यानवर्णनम् श्रीनारायण उवाच मत्तः पूजाविधानं च श्रूयतां मुनिपुङ्गव । ध्यानं च सामवेदोक्तं प्रोक्तं देवीविधानकम्
The narration of the meditation by the mind. Shri Narayana said: O best of sages, listen to the procedure of worship from me, as well as the meditation described in the Sama Veda and the prescribed method for the goddess.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभां रत्नभूषणभूषिताम् । वह्निशुद्धांशुकाधानां नागयज्ञोपवीतिनीम्
One should meditate on her as having the radiance of a white champaka flower, adorned with jeweled ornaments, clad in garments purified by fire, and wearing a sacred thread of serpents.
महाज्ञानयुतां तां च प्रवरज्ञानिनां वराम् । सिद्धाधिष्ठातृदेवीं च सिद्धां सिद्धिप्रदां भजे
I worship her, endowed with great knowledge, foremost among the wise, the presiding goddess of accomplishments, perfected, and bestower of success.
