विलोक्य लम्पटं तत्र गोपीनां लक्षकोटयः । पुटाञ्जलियुता भीता भक्तिनम्रात्मकन्धराः
Beholding the playful one there, millions of Gopis, hands joined in reverence, fearful, bowed their necks in devotion.
रक्ष रक्षेत्युक्तवन्त्यो देवीमिति पुनः पुनः । ययुर्भयेन शरणं यस्याश्चरणपङ्कजे
Crying out again and again, 'Protect, protect!' to the Goddess, they sought refuge in the lotus feet of her whose feet they revered out of fear.
त्रिलक्षकोटयो गोपाः सुदामादय एव च । ययुर्भयेन शरणं तत्पादाब्जे च नारद
Three million Gopas, including Sudama and others, out of fear, sought refuge at her lotus feet, O Narada.
पलायन्तं च कान्तं च विज्ञाय परमेश्वरी । पलायन्तीं सहचरीं सुशीलां च शशाप सा
Knowing her beloved was fleeing, the Supreme Lady cursed her companion Suśīlā, who was also fleeing.
अद्यप्रभृति गोलोकं सा चेदायाति गोपिका । सद्यो गमनमात्रेण भस्मसाच्च भविष्यति
From this day onward, if that Gopi enters Goloka, she will instantly, merely by arrival, be reduced to ashes.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा तत्रैव देवदेवेश्वरी रुषा । रासेश्वरी रासमध्ये रासेशमाजुहाव ह
Having spoken thus, the Goddess of gods, enraged, in the midst of the rasa, summoned the Lord of the dance.
नालोक्य पुरतः कृष्णं राधा विरहकातरा । युगकोटिसमं मेने क्षणभेदेन सुव्रता
Not seeing Krishna before her, Radha, afflicted by separation, considered a single moment to be equal to an age of millions of years.
हे कृष्ण प्राणनाथेशागच्छ प्राणाधिकप्रिय । प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवेश प्राणा यान्ति त्वया विना
O Krishna, Lord of my life, come, beloved dearer than life; Lord presiding over life, my life departs without you.
स्त्रीगर्वः पतिसौभाग्याद्वर्धते च दिने दिने । सुखं च विपुलं यस्मात्तं सेवेद्धर्मतः सदा
A woman's pride increases day by day through her husband's good fortune; therefore, she should always serve him according to dharma, for this brings her abundant happiness.
पतिर्बन्धुः कुलस्त्रीणामधिदेवः सदागतिः । परसम्पत्स्वरूपश्च मूर्तिमान् भोगदः सदा
For women of noble families, the husband is a friend, a guardian deity, and a constant refuge; he is the embodiment of prosperity and always the giver of enjoyment.
धर्मदः सुखदः शश्वत्प्रीतिदः शान्तिदः सदा । सम्मानैर्दीप्यमानश्च मानदो मानखण्डनः
He is the giver of dharma, happiness, perpetual affection, and constant peace; shining with honors, he bestows respect and removes dishonor.
सारात्सारतरः स्वामी बन्धूनां बन्धुवर्धनः । न च भर्तुः समो बन्धुर्बन्धोर्बन्धुषु दृश्यते
The master is the most precious among precious ones, the enhancer of kin among relatives; no relative equals the husband among all the kin that can be seen.
भरणादेव भर्ता च पालनात्पतिरुच्यते । शरीरेशाच्च स स्वामी कामदः कान्त उच्यते
He is called 'husband' because he provides sustenance, and 'master' because he protects; as lord of the body, he is called 'desirer' and 'beloved' because he fulfills wishes.
बन्धुश्च सुखवृद्ध्या च प्रीतिदानात्प्रियः स्मृतः । ऐश्वर्यदानादीशश्च प्राणेशात्प्राणनायकः
He is remembered as a friend through the increase of happiness and the giving of affection; as lord through the granting of wealth, and as leader of life through being the lord of the vital breath.
रतिदानाच्च रमणः प्रियो नास्ति प्रियात्परः । पुत्रस्तु स्वामिनः शुक्राज्जायते तेन स प्रियः
He is called 'lover' because he gives pleasure, and 'beloved'—there is none dearer than the beloved; the son is born from the master's seed, and thus he is dear.
शतपुत्रात्परः स्वामी कुलजानां प्रियः सदा । असत्कुलप्रसूता या कान्तं विज्ञातुमक्षमा
The master is always dearer than a hundred sons to women of noble birth; but one born in an ignoble family is incapable of recognizing her beloved.
स्नानं च सर्वतीर्थेषु सर्वयज्ञेषु दक्षिणा । प्रादक्षिण्यं पृथिव्याश्च सर्वाणि च तपांसि च
Bathing in all sacred waters, giving gifts at all sacrifices, circumambulating the earth, and performing all austerities—
सर्वाण्येव व्रतादीनि महादानानि यानि च । उपोषणानि पुण्यानि यानि यानि श्रुतानि च
All vows, great gifts, fasting, and all the meritorious acts that are heard—
गुरुसेवा विप्रसेवा देवसेवादिकं च यत् । स्वामिनः पादसेवायाः कलां नार्हन्ति षोडशीम्
Service to teachers, to Brahmins, to gods, and the like—none of these equal even one-sixteenth of the service to the master's feet.
गुरुविप्रेन्द्रदेवेषु सर्वेभ्यश्च पतिर्गुरुः । विद्यादाता यथा पुंसां कुलजानां तथा प्रियः
Among teachers, Brahmins, gods, and all others, the husband is the foremost teacher; just as the giver of knowledge is dear to men, so is the husband to women of noble birth.
गोपीनां लक्षकोटीनां गोपानां च तथैव च । ब्रह्माण्डानामसंख्यानां तत्रस्थानां तथैव च
Among hundreds of thousands of gopīs and likewise among gopas, and among countless universes and those who dwell therein—
विश्वादिगोलकान्तानामीश्वरी यत्प्रसादतः । अहं न जाने तं कान्तं स्त्रीस्वभावो दुरत्ययः
By the grace of the Mistress of all worlds and Goloka, I do not know that beloved; the nature of women is difficult to overcome.
इत्युक्त्वा राधिका कृष्णं तत्र दध्यौ स्वभक्तितः । रुरोद प्रेम्णा सा राधा नाथ नाथेति चाब्रवीत्
Having spoken thus, Rādhikā meditated on Kṛṣṇa with her devotion; Rādhā wept with love, saying, 'Lord, O Lord!'
दर्शनं देहि रमण दीना विरहदुःखिता । अथ सा दक्षिणा देवी ध्वस्ता गोलोकतो मुने
'Grant me your vision, O lover! I am wretched and afflicted by separation.' Then that southern goddess was cast out from Goloka, O sage.
सुचिरं च तपस्तप्त्वा विवेश कमलातनौ । अथ देवादयः सर्वे यज्ञं कृत्वा सुदुष्करम्
After performing austerities for a long time, she entered the lotus-bodied one; then all the gods performed a most difficult sacrifice.
नालभंस्ते फलं तेषां विषण्णाः प्रययुर्विधिम् । विधिर्निवेदनं श्रुत्वा देवादीनां जगत्पतिम्
They did not obtain its fruit, and, disappointed, they approached the Lord of destiny; upon hearing the petition of the gods, the Lord of the universe—
दध्यौ च सुचिरं भक्त्या प्रत्यादेशमवाप सः । नारायणश्च भगवान् महालक्ष्याश्च देहतः
He meditated for a long time with devotion and received a divine instruction; then the blessed Nārāyaṇa and Mahālakṣmī emerged from his body.
विनिष्कृष्य मर्त्यलक्ष्मीं ब्रह्मणे दक्षिणां ददौ । ब्रह्मा ददौ तां यज्ञाय पूरणार्थं च कर्मणाम्
Having drawn out the mortal Lakṣmī, he gave her as a sacrificial fee to Brahmā; and Brahmā gave her to the sacrifice, for the completion of the rites.
यज्ञः सम्पूज्य विधिवत्तां तुष्टाव तदा मुदा । तप्तकाञ्चनवर्णाभां चन्द्रकोटिसमप्रभाम्
The sacrifice, having duly worshipped her, praised her with joy—she who shone with the radiance of molten gold, equal in brilliance to millions of moons.
अतीव कमनीयां च सुन्दरीं सुमनोहराम् । कमलास्यां कोमलाङ्गीं कमलायतलोचनाम्
She was exceedingly lovely, beautiful, and enchanting; with a lotus-like face, delicate limbs, and eyes shaped like lotus petals.
