रत्नभूषणभूषाढ्यं सुतल्पं देवि गृह्यताम् । यद्यद् द्रव्यमपूर्वं च पृथिव्यामपि दुर्लभम्
O Goddess, accept this excellent bed, adorned with gem-studded ornaments; whatever rare substance exists on earth, even if difficult to obtain.
देवभूषार्हभोग्यं च तद् द्रव्यं देवि गृह्यताम् । द्रव्याण्येतानि दत्त्वा च मूलेन देवपुङ्गवः
O Goddess, accept these items fit for divine adornment and enjoyment; having offered these with their root, the chief of the gods—
मूलं जजाप भक्त्या च दशलक्षं विधानतः । जपेन दशलक्षेण मन्त्रसिद्धिर्बभूव ह
With devotion, he recited the root mantra ten hundred thousand times according to the prescribed method; by this ten hundred thousand-fold recitation, the mantra attained perfection.
मन्त्रश्च ब्रह्मणा दत्तः कल्पवृक्षश्च सर्वतः । लक्ष्मीर्माया कामवाणी ङेऽन्ता कमलवासिनी
The mantra was given by Brahma, and the wish-fulfilling tree in every way; Lakshmi, Maya, the goddess of desire, and Kamalavāsinī are its end.
वैदिको मन्त्रराजोऽयं प्रसिद्धः स्वाहयान्वितः । कुबेरोऽनेन मन्त्रेण परमैश्वर्यमाप्तवान्
This Vedic king of mantras, renowned and accompanied by the syllable 'svāhā', is the mantra by which Kubera attained supreme sovereignty.
राजराजेश्वरो दक्षः सावर्णिर्मनुरेव च । मङ्गलोऽनेन मन्त्रेण सप्तद्वीपेऽवनीपतिः
By this mantra, Rājarājeśvara, Dakṣa, Sāvarṇi, Manu, and Maṅgala became lords of the earth with seven continents.
प्रियव्रतोत्तानपादौ केदारो नृप एव च । एते सिद्धाश्च राजेन्द्रा मन्त्रेणानेन नारद
Priyavrata, Uttānapāda, Kedāra, and other kings—these accomplished rulers, O Nārada, attained success through this mantra.
सिद्धे मन्त्रे महालक्ष्मीः शक्राय दर्शनं ददौ । रत्नेन्द्रसारनिर्माणविमानस्था वरप्रदा
When the mantra was perfected, Mahālakṣmī granted a vision to Indra, bestower of boons, standing in an aerial palace crafted from the finest jewels.
सप्तद्वीपवतीं पृथ्वीं छादयन्ती त्विषा च सा । श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा रत्नभूषणभूषिता
She, shining with a radiance that covered the earth with its seven continents, was adorned with ornaments of jewels and had the luster of white campaka flowers.
ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नास्या भक्तानुग्रहकातरा । बिभ्रती रत्नमालां च कोटिचन्द्रसमप्रभाम्
Her face bore a gentle smile and a gracious expression, eager to show favor to her devotees, wearing a garland of jewels radiant as ten million moons.
दृष्ट्वा जगत्प्रसूं शान्तां तुष्टावैतां पुरन्दरः । पुलकाञ्चितसर्वाङ्गः साश्रुनेत्रः कृताञ्जलिः
Seeing the mother of the universe, serene, Indra praised her, his whole body thrilled, his eyes filled with tears, and his hands joined in reverence.
ब्रह्मणा च प्रदत्तेन स्तोत्रराजेन संयुतः । सर्वाभीष्टप्रदेनैव वैदिकेनैव तत्र च
He was joined by the king of hymns given by Brahmā, the Vedic hymn that grants all desires.
पुरन्दर उवाच नमः कमलवासिन्यै नारायण्यै नमो नमः । कृष्णप्रियायै सततं महालक्ष्यै नमो नमः
Purandara said: Salutations to the one who dwells in the lotus, to Nārāyaṇī, repeated salutations; to the beloved of Kṛṣṇa, to Mahālakṣmī, constant salutations.
पद्मपत्रेक्षणायै च पद्मास्यायै नमो नमः । पद्मासनायै पद्मिन्यै वैष्णव्यै च नमो नमः
Repeated salutations to her whose eyes are like lotus petals, whose face is like a lotus, who sits upon a lotus, who is the lotus-goddess, and who is Vaiṣṇavī.
सर्वसम्पत्स्वरूपिण्यै सर्वाराध्यै नमो नमः । हरिभक्तिप्रदात्र्यै च हर्षदात्र्यै नमो नमः
Repeated salutations to her who is the embodiment of all prosperity, who is worshipped by all; to the bestower of devotion to Hari, to the giver of joy, salutations.
कृष्णवक्षःस्थितायै च कृष्णेशायै नमो नमः । चन्द्रशोभास्वरूपायै रत्नपद्मे च शोभने
Repeated salutations to her who dwells on Kṛṣṇa's chest, who is the mistress of Kṛṣṇa; to her whose form is like the radiance of the moon, O beautiful one, in the jeweled lotus.
सम्पत्त्यधिष्ठातृदेव्यै महादेव्यै नमो नमः । नमो वृद्धिस्वरूपायै वृद्धिदायै नमो नमः
Salutations to the goddess who presides over prosperity, to the great goddess; salutations to her who is the very form of increase, to the bestower of growth.
वैकुण्ठे या महालक्ष्मीर्या लक्ष्मीः क्षीरसागरे । स्वर्गलक्ष्मीरिन्द्रगेहे राजलक्ष्मीर्नृपालये
She who is Mahālakṣmī in Vaikuṇṭha, Lakṣmī in the ocean of milk, the Lakṣmī of heaven in Indra's abode, and the royal Lakṣmī in the king's palace.
गृहलक्ष्मीश्च गृहिणां गेहे च गृहदेवता । सुरभिः सागरे जाता दक्षिणा यज्ञकामिनी
She is the Lakṣmī of the household in the homes of householders, the household deity; she is Surabhi, born in the ocean, and Dakṣiṇā, desired in sacrifice.
अदितिर्देवमाता त्वं कमला कमलालया । स्वाहा त्वं च हविर्दाने कव्यदाने स्वधा स्मृता
You are Aditi, mother of the gods; Kamalā, the abode of lotuses; in the offering of oblations you are Svāhā, and in the offering to ancestors you are remembered as Svadhā.
त्वं हि विष्णुस्वरूपा च सर्वाधारा वसुन्धरा । शुद्धसत्त्वस्वरूपा त्वं नारायणपरायणा
You are indeed the very form of Viṣṇu, the support of all, the earth herself; you are the embodiment of pure sattva, wholly devoted to Nārāyaṇa.
क्रोधहिंसावर्जिता च वरदा शारदा शुभा । परमार्थप्रदा त्वं च हरिदास्यप्रदा परा
Free from anger and violence, you are the bestower of boons, the auspicious Śāradā; you grant the highest truth and supreme devotion to Hari.
यया विना जगत्सर्वं भस्मीभूतमसारकम् । जीवन्मृतं च विश्वं च शश्वत्सर्वं यया विना
Without you, the entire universe becomes insubstantial, reduced to ashes; without you, all existence is as if dead while living, and everything is eternally void.
सर्वेषां च परा माता सर्वबान्धवरूपिणी । धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणां त्वं च कारणरूपिणी
You are the supreme mother of all, appearing as every relative; you are the very cause of righteousness, prosperity, desire, and liberation.
यथा माता स्तनान्धानां शिशूनां शैशवे सदा । तथा त्वं सर्वदा माता सर्वेषां सर्वरूपतः
Just as a mother is always the nourisher of her infants who seek her breast, so too are you always the mother of all, in every form.
मातृहीनः स्तनान्धस्तु स च जीवति दैवतः । त्वया हीनो जनः कोऽपि न जीवत्येव निश्चितम्
A child deprived of its mother and nourishment may yet live by fate, but it is certain that no one deprived of you can live.
सुप्रसन्नस्वरूपा त्वं मां प्रसन्ना भवाम्बिके । वैरिग्रस्तं च विषयं देहि मह्यं सनातनि
O Ambika, whose nature is supremely gracious, be pleased with me; O Eternal One, grant me victory over enemies and dominion over the world.
अहं यावत्त्वया हीनो बन्धुहीनश्च भिक्षुकः । सर्वसम्पद्विहीनश्च तावदेव हरिप्रिये
O beloved of Hari, as long as I am without you, I am as one without kin, a beggar, bereft of all prosperity.
ज्ञानं देहि च धर्मं च सर्वसौभाग्यमीप्सितम् । प्रभावञ्च प्रतापं च सर्वाधिकारमेव च
Grant me knowledge, righteousness, all desired good fortune, power, brilliance, and complete authority.
जयं पराक्रमं युद्धे परमैश्वर्यमेव च । इत्युक्त्वा च महेन्द्रश्च सर्वैः सुरगणैः सह
Grant me victory and valor in battle, and the highest sovereignty; having spoken thus, Mahendra, along with all the hosts of gods—
