शक्तिभक्ते द्वेषबुद्धिं शक्तिशास्त्रे तथैव च । द्वेषं यः कुरुते मर्त्यो ब्रह्महत्यां लभेत्तु सः
Whoever harbors hatred towards devotees of Shakti or towards the scriptures of Shakti, whoever expresses hatred, being mortal, attains the sin of killing a Brahmin.
पितृदेवार्चनं यो वा त्यजेद्वेदनिरूपितम् । यः करोति निषिद्धं च ब्रह्महत्यां लभेत्तु सः
Whoever abandons the worship of ancestors and gods as prescribed by the Vedas, or commits prohibited acts, attains the sin of killing a Brahmin.
यो निन्दति हृषीकेशं तन्मन्त्रोपासकं तथा । पवित्राणां पवित्रं च ज्ञानानन्दं सनातनम्
Whoever reviles Hrishikesha, or the worshipper of his mantra, or the most pure among the pure, the eternal source of knowledge and bliss,
प्रधानं वैष्णवानां च देवानां सेव्यमीश्वरम् । ये नार्चयन्ति निन्दन्ति ब्रह्महत्यां लभन्ति ते
The chief among Vaishnavas, the god worshipped by the gods, those who do not worship and who revile him, they attain the sin of killing a Brahmin.
ये निन्दन्ति महादेवीं कारणब्रह्मरूपिणीम् । सर्वशक्तिस्वरूपां च प्रकृतिं सर्वमातरम्
Those who revile the great Goddess, the embodiment of causal Brahman, the form of all powers, the primal nature, the mother of all,
सर्वदेवस्वरूपां च सर्वेषां वन्दितां सदा । सर्वकारणरूपां च ब्रह्महत्यां लभन्ति ते
The form of all gods, always worshipped by all, the embodiment of all causes, they attain the sin of killing a Brahmin.
कृष्णजन्माष्टमीं रामनवमीं च सुपुण्यदाम् । शिवरात्रिं तथा चैकादशीं वारे रवेस्तथा
Krishna's birthday, Rama's birthday, the highly auspicious Shiva night, Ekadashi, and the day of the Sun,
पञ्च पर्वाणि पुण्यानि ये न कुर्वन्ति मानवाः । लभन्ति ब्रह्महत्यां ते चाण्डालाधिकपापिनः
Those humans who do not observe these five holy festivals, they attain the sin of killing a Brahmin and are more sinful than outcastes.
अम्बुवाच्यां भूखननं जलशौचादिकं च ये । कुर्वन्ति भारते वर्षे ब्रह्महत्यां लभन्ति ते
Those who, in the land of Bharata, perform digging of the earth or acts such as defecation in water, incur the sin of killing a Brahmin.
गुरुञ्च मातरं तातं साध्वीं भार्यां सुतं सुताम् । अनिन्द्यां यो न पुष्णाति ब्रह्महत्यां लभेत्तु सः
Whoever does not support his guru, mother, father, virtuous wife, son, or daughter—who are blameless—incurs the sin of killing a Brahmin.
विवाहो यस्य न भवेन्न पश्यति सुतं तु यः । हरिभक्तिविहीनो यो ब्रह्महत्यां लभेत्तु सः
He whose marriage does not take place, who does not see his own son, or who is devoid of devotion to Hari—such a one incurs the sin of killing a Brahmin.
हरेरनैवेद्यभोजी नित्यं विष्णुं न पूजयेत् । पुण्यं पार्थिवलिङ्गं च ब्रह्महासौ प्रकीर्तितः
One who habitually eats food offered to Hari but does not worship Viṣṇu, or who treats the sacred liṅga of the earth as mere merit, is declared to be a Brahmin-slayer.
गोप्रहारं प्रकुर्वन्तं दृष्ट्वा यो न निवारयेत् । याति गोविप्रयोर्मध्ये गोहत्या तु लभेत्तु सः
Whoever, seeing someone striking a cow, does not restrain him, obtains the sin of cow-killing between the cow and the Brāhmaṇa.
दण्डैर्गोस्ताडयेन्मूढो यो विप्रो वृषवाहनः । दिने दिने गोवधं च लभते नात्र संशयः
A foolish Brāhmaṇa who strikes a cow with sticks, or who daily kills cows, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing—of this there is no doubt.
ददाति गोभ्य उच्छिष्टं भोजयेद् वृषवाहकम् । भुनक्ति वृषवाहान्नं स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever gives leftovers to cows, feeds a Brāhmaṇa such food, or eats food meant for Brāhmaṇas, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
वृषलीपतिं याजयेद्यो भुङ्क्तेऽन्नं तस्य यो नरः । गोहत्याशतकं सोऽपि लभते नात्र संशयः
He who officiates a sacrifice for a Śūdra or eats his food—such a man certainly incurs the sin of killing a hundred cows; of this there is no doubt.
पादं ददाति वह्नौ यो गाश्च पादेन ताडयेत् । गेहं विशेदधौताङ्घ्रिः स्नात्वा गोवधमाप्नुयात्
Whoever puts his foot in the fire, strikes cows with his foot, or enters the house with unwashed feet after bathing, attains the sin of cow-killing.
यो भुङ्क्ते स्निग्धपादेन शेते स्निग्धाङ्घ्रिरेव च । सूर्योदये च यो भुङ्क्ते स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
He who eats with oily feet, sleeps with oily feet, or eats at sunrise, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
अवीरान्नं च यो भुङ्क्ते योनिजीव्यस्य च द्विजः । यस्त्रिसन्ध्याविहीनश्च गोहत्या लभते च सः
A twice-born who eats food not offered in sacrifice, or lives by base means, or neglects the three daily sandhyā rituals, incurs the sin of cow-killing.
स्वभर्तरि च देवे वा भेदबुद्धिं करोति या । कटूक्त्या ताडयेत् कान्तं सा गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
A woman who harbors divisive thoughts toward her husband or toward a deity, or who strikes her beloved with harsh words, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
गोमार्गवर्जनं कृत्वा ददाति सस्यमेव वा । तडागे वा तु दुर्गे वा स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever, avoiding the cow's path, gives grain in a pond or a fort, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
प्रायश्चित्ते गोवधस्य यः करोति व्यतिक्रमम् । पुत्रलोभादथाज्ञानात्स गोहत्या लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever, out of greed for a son or out of ignorance, neglects the prescribed atonement for cow-killing, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
राजके दैवके यत्नाद् गोस्वामी गां न रक्षति । दुःखं ददाति यो मूढो गोहत्यां स लभेद् ध्रुवम्
A foolish cow-owner who, despite the efforts of the king or the deity, does not protect his cows and causes them suffering, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
प्राणिनो लङ्घयेद्यो हि देवार्चामनलं जलम् । नैवेद्यं पुष्पमन्नं च स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever allows living beings to cross over the worship of the deity, fire, or water, or consumes the deity's offerings, flowers, or food, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
शश्वन्नास्तीति यो वादी मिथ्यावादी प्रतारकः । देवद्वेषी गुरुद्वेषी स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
One who always proclaims 'there is no afterlife,' who speaks falsehoods or deceives, who hates the gods or the guru, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
देवताप्रतिमां दृष्ट्वा गुरुं वा ब्राह्मणं सति । सम्भ्रमान्न नमेद्यो हि स गोहत्या लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever, upon seeing a deity's image, a guru, or a worthy Brāhmaṇa, does not bow with reverence, certainly incurs the sin of cow-killing.
न ददात्याशिषं कोपात्प्रणताय च यो द्विजः । विद्यार्थिने च विद्यां च स गोहत्यां लभेद् ध्रुवम्
A twice-born who, out of anger, does not grant blessings to one who bows, or does not impart knowledge to a seeker of learning, certainly incurs the sin equal to cow slaughter.
गोहत्या विप्रहत्या च कथिता चातिदेशिकी । गम्यां स्त्रियं नृणामेव निबोध कथयामि ते
The sins of cow slaughter and killing a Brahmin have been described, along with their extensions; now listen as I tell you about women who are to be approached or not by men.
स्वस्त्री गम्या च सर्वेषामिति वेदानुशासनम् । अगम्या च तदन्या या चेति वेदविदो विदुः
According to the Vedic injunction, one's own wife is permitted for all; any other woman is considered forbidden—so say those who know the Veda.
सामान्यं कथितं सर्वं विशेषं शृणु सुन्दरि । अत्यगम्या हि या याश्च निबोध कथयामि ताः
