रविवारे च संक्रान्त्याममायां श्राद्धवासरे । वस्त्राणां क्षारसंयोगं करोति केवलं नरः
On Sundays, at the solstice, at the new moon, or on the day of ancestral rites, if a man mixes alkaline substances with clothes only,
स याति क्षारकुण्डं च सूत्रमानाब्दमेव च । स व्रजेद्रजकीं योनिं सप्तजन्मसु भारते
He goes to the alkaline kunda, for a year equal to the measure of thread; he enters the washerman's birth for seven lifetimes in Bharata.
मूलप्रकृतिनिन्दां यः कुरुते मानवाधमः । वेदनिन्दां शास्त्रनिन्दां पुराणानां तथैव च
The lowest of men who insults the primal nature, who insults the Vedas, the scriptures, and likewise the Puranas,
ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादीनां तथा निन्दापरो जनः । गौरीवाण्यादिदेवीनां तथा निन्दापरो जनः
And those who are intent on insulting Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and others; and those who are intent on insulting Gauri, Vani, and other goddesses,
ते सर्वे निरये यान्ति तस्मिन्कुण्डे भयानके । नातः परतरं कुण्डं दुःखदं तु भविष्यति
All of them go to the hell, to that terrifying kunda; there will be no kunda more painful than that.
तत्र स्थित्वानेककल्पं सर्पयोनिं व्रजेत्पुनः । देवीनिन्दापराधस्य प्रायश्चित्तं न विद्यते
There, remaining for countless ages, he again attains the serpent birth; for the offense of insulting the goddess, there is no expiation.
स्वदत्तां परदत्तां वा वृत्तिं च सुरविप्रयोः । षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि विट्कुण्डं च प्रयाति सः
Whoever takes for their livelihood what was given by themselves or by another, from the gods or Brahmins, goes to the pit of excrement for sixty thousand years.
तावन्त्येव च वर्षाणि विड्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति । षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि विट्कृमिश्च पुनर्भुवि
There, for the same number of years, he remains eating excrement; then, for sixty thousand years, he is reborn on earth as a worm in excrement.
परकीयतडागे च तडागं यः करोति च । उत्सजेद्दैवदोषेण मूत्रकुण्डं प्रयाति सः
Whoever constructs a pond in another's pond, or abandons it due to fate, goes to the pit of urine.
तद्रेणुमानवर्षं च तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति । पुनः पूर्णशताब्दं च स वृषो भारते भवेत्
There, for as many years as the dust of that pond, he remains eating that; then, for a full hundred years, he becomes a bull in India.
एकाकी मिष्टमश्नाति श्लेष्मकुण्डं प्रयाति च । पूर्णमब्दशतं चैव तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति
Whoever eats delicious food alone goes to the pit of phlegm, and there remains eating that for a full hundred years.
ततः पूर्णशताब्दं च स प्रेतो भारते भवेत् । श्लेष्ममूत्रपरं चैव पूयं भुङ्क्ते ततः शुचिः
After that, for a full hundred years, he becomes a ghost in India, and then, eating phlegm, urine, and pus, he is purified.
पितरं मातरं चैव गुरुं भार्यां सुतं सुताम् । यो न पुष्णात्यनाथं च गरकुण्डं प्रयाति सः
Whoever does not support his father, mother, teacher, wife, son, daughter, or one who is helpless, goes to the pit of poison.
पूर्णमब्दशतं चैव तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति । ततो व्रजेद्भूतयोनिं शतवर्षं ततः शुचिः
There, for a full hundred years, he remains eating that; then, he enters a ghostly birth for a hundred years, and after that, he is purified.
दृष्ट्वातिथिं वक्रचक्षुः करोति यो हि मानवः । पितृदेवास्तस्य जलं न गृह्णन्ति च पापिनः
If a man looks with a crooked eye upon a guest, the ancestors and gods do not accept water from that sinner.
यानि कानि च पापानि ब्रह्महत्यादिकानि च । इहैव लभते चान्ते दूषिकाकुण्डमाव्रजेत्
Whatever sins there are, including the killing of a Brahmin, he experiences them here itself, and in the end, he enters the pit of filth.
पूर्णमब्दशतं चैव तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति । ततो व्रजेद्भूतयोनिं शतवर्षं ततः शुचिः
There, for a full hundred years, he remains eating that; then, he enters a ghostly birth for a hundred years, and after that, he is purified.
दत्त्वा द्रव्यं च विप्राय चान्यस्मै दीयते यदि । स तिष्ठति वसाकुण्डे तद्भोजी शतवत्सरम्
If, after giving wealth to a Brahmin, it is given to someone else, he remains in the pit of fat, eating that for a hundred years.
कृकलासो भवेत्सोऽपि भारते सप्तजन्मसु । ततो भवेन्महारौद्रो दरिद्रोऽल्पायुरेव च
He then becomes a vulture in India for seven births; after that, he becomes extremely fierce, poor, and short-lived.
पुमांसं कामिनी वापि कामिनीं वा पुमानथ । यः शुक्रं पाययत्येव शुक्रकुण्डं प्रयाति सः
A man or woman who makes another drink semen, or drinks it themselves, goes to the pit of semen.
पूर्णमब्दशतं चैव तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति । कृमियोनिं शताब्दं च व्रजेद्भूत्वा ततः शुचिः
There, for a full hundred years, he remains eating that; then, after being born as a worm for a hundred years, he is purified.
सन्ताड्य च गुरुं विप्रं रक्तपातं च कारयेत् । स च तिष्ठत्यसृक्कुण्डे तद्भोजी शतवत्सरम्
Whoever strikes a teacher or Brahmin, or causes blood to flow, remains in the pit of blood, eating that for a hundred years.
ततो लभेद्व्याघ्रजन्म सप्तजन्मसु भारते । ततः शुद्धिमवाप्नोति मानवश्च क्रमेण ह
After that, he obtains birth as a tiger in India for seven births; then, gradually, the man attains purification.
योऽश्रु तत्याज गायन्तं भक्तं दृष्ट्वा सगद्गदम् । श्रीकृष्णगुणसङ्गीते हसत्येव हि यो नरः
Whoever, seeing a devotee singing the qualities of Shri Krishna with a choked voice, abandons tears or laughs at him—
स वसेदश्रुकुण्डे च तद्भोजी शतवर्षकम् । ततो भवेच्च चाण्डालस्त्रिजन्मनि ततः शुचिः
He shall dwell in the Ashru-kunda and eat its food for one hundred years; thereafter, he will be born as a Chandala for three births, and then become pure.
करोति शठता तद्वन्नित्यं सुहृदि यो नरः । कुण्डं गात्रमलानां च स प्रयाति शताब्दकम्
A man who always acts deceitfully toward a friend, and who bathes in the pool of bodily filth, remains there for a hundred years.
ततः स गार्दभीं योनिमवाप्नोति त्रिजन्मनि । त्रिजन्मनि च शार्गालीं ततः शुद्धो भवेद् ध्रुवम्
After that, for three births he attains the womb of a she-ass; for three births, that of a female jackal; then, he surely becomes pure.
बधिरं यो हसत्येव निन्दत्येवाभिमानतः । स वसेत्कर्णविट्कुण्डे तद्भोजी शतवत्सरम्
Whoever laughs at or insults a deaf person out of pride shall dwell in the Karna-vit-kunda, eating its food for one hundred years.
ततो भवेत्स बधिरो दरिद्रः सप्तजन्मसु । सप्तजन्मन्यङ्गहीनस्ततः शुद्धिं लभेद् ध्रुवम्
After that, he becomes deaf and poor for seven births; for seven births he is born with defective limbs, and then he certainly attains purification.
लोभात्स्वभरणार्थाय जीविनं हन्ति यो नरः । मज्जाकुण्डे वसेत्सोऽपि तद्भोजी लक्षवत्सरम्
A man who, out of greed for his own ornaments, kills a living being, dwells in the Majja-kunda, eating its food for one hundred thousand years.
