स्वधर्मनिरता विप्राः सूर्यभक्ताश्च भारते । व्रजन्ति ते सूर्यलोकं पुनरायान्ति भारते
Brāhmaṇas devoted to their own dharma and worshippers of the Sun in Bhārata go to Sūryaloka, but return again to Bhārata.
मूलप्रकृतिभक्ता ये निष्कामा धर्मचारिणः । मणिद्वीपं प्रयान्त्येव पुनरावृत्तिवर्जितम्
Those devoted to the primal Nature, who are without desires and follow dharma, go to Maṇidvīpa, from which there is no return.
स्वधर्मे निरता भक्ताः शैवाः शाक्ताश्च गाणपाः । ते यान्ति शिवलोकं च पुनरायान्ति भारते
Those devoted to their own duty, who are followers of Shiva, Shakti, or Ganesha, attain the realm of Shiva and return again to Bharata.
ये विप्रा अन्यदेवेज्याः स्वधर्मनिरताः सति । ते यान्ति सर्वलोकं च पुनरायान्ति भारते
Those Brahmins who worship other deities, yet remain devoted to their own duty, reach all worlds and return again to Bharata.
हरिभक्ताश्च निष्कामाः स्वधर्मनिरता द्विजाः । ते च यान्ति हरेर्लोकं क्रमाद्भक्तिबलादहो
Brahmins who are devoted to Hari, free from desire and steadfast in their own duty, gradually attain the realm of Hari by the power of devotion.
स्वधर्मरहिता विप्रा देवान्यसेवनाः सदा । भ्रष्टाचाराश्च कामाश्च ते यान्ति नरकं ध्रुवम्
Brahmins who lack devotion to their own duty, always serve other gods, are corrupt in conduct and driven by desire, surely go to hell.
स्वधर्मनिरता एव वर्णाश्चत्वार एव च । भवन्त्येव शुभस्यैव कर्मणः फलभोगिनः
Only those among the four castes who are devoted to their own duty enjoy the fruits of virtuous actions.
स्वकर्मरहिता ये च नरकं यान्ति ते ध्रुवम् । भारते न भवन्त्येव कर्मणः फलभोगिनः
Those who lack their own prescribed actions surely go to hell; in Bharata, they do not enjoy the fruits of action.
स्वधर्मनिरता एव वर्णाश्चत्वार एव च । स्वधर्मनिरता विप्राः स्वधर्मनिरताय च
Only those among the four castes who are devoted to their own duty, and Brahmins devoted to their own duty, are so.
कन्यां ददति विप्राय चन्द्रलोकं प्रयान्ति ते । वसन्ति तत्र ते साध्वि यावदिन्द्राश्चतुर्दश
Brahmins who give a maiden in marriage attain the realm of the moon; they dwell there, O virtuous one, as long as the fourteen Indras reign.
सालङ्कृताया दानेन द्विगुणं फलमुच्यते । सकामा यान्ति तल्लोकं न निष्कामाश्च साधवः
By giving a well-adorned maiden, double the fruit is said to be gained; those who act with desire attain that realm, but not those who are virtuous and free from desire.
ते प्रयान्ति विष्णुलोकं फलसङ्घातवर्जिताः । गव्यं च रजतं स्वर्णं वस्त्रं सर्पिः फलं जलम्
They attain the realm of Vishnu, free from the accumulation of fruits; the giving of cows, silver, gold, cloth, clarified butter, fruit, and water.
ये ददत्येव विप्रेभ्यश्चन्द्रलोकं प्रयान्ति ते । वसन्ति ते च तल्लोके यावन्मन्वन्तरं सति
Those who give these to Brahmins attain the realm of the moon; they dwell in that realm for the duration of a Manvantara.
सुचिरात्सुचिरं वासं कुर्वन्ति तेन ते जनाः । ये ददति सुवर्णांश्च गाश्च ताम्रादिकं सति
For a long time, or for a very long time, those people reside there; those who give gold, cows, copper, and the like.
ते यान्ति सूर्यलोकं च शुचये ब्राह्मणाय च । वसन्ति ते तत्र लोके वर्षाणामयुतं सति
They attain the realm of the sun, for the sake of purity, and for the Brahmin; they dwell in that world for ten thousand years.
विपुले सुचिरं वासं कुर्वन्ति च निरामयाः । ददाति भूमिं विप्रेभ्यो धनानि विपुलानि च
They reside there for a long time, free from disease; those who give land and abundant wealth to Brahmins.
स याति विष्णुलोकं च श्वेतद्वीपं मनोहरम् । तत्रैव निवसत्येव यावच्चन्द्रदिवाकरौ
He attains the realm of Vishnu, the delightful White Island; there he dwells as long as the moon and sun exist.
विपुले विपुलं वासं करोति पुण्यवान्मुने । गृहं ददति विप्राय ये जना भक्तिपूर्वकम्
For a long time, the virtuous one dwells in abundance; those who give a house to a Brahmin with devotion.
ते यान्ति विष्णुलोकं च सुचिरं सुखदायकम् । गृहरेणुप्रमाणं च विष्णुलोके महत्तमे
They attain the realm of Vishnu, which bestows lasting happiness; even the measure of dust from a house is great in Vishnu's highest realm.
विपुले विपुलं वासं कुर्वन्ति मानवाः सति । यस्मै यस्मै च देवाय यो ददाति गृहं नरः
For a long time, people dwell in abundance; whoever gives a house to whichever deity.
स याति तस्य लोकं च रेणुमानाब्दमेव च । सौधे चतुर्गुणं पुण्यं देशे शतगुणं फलम्
He attains that world and remains there for as many years as there are dust particles; in a palace, the merit is fourfold, and in a holy land, the fruit is a hundredfold.
प्रकृष्टे द्विगुणं तस्मादित्याह कमलोद्भवः । यो ददाति तडागं च सर्वपापापनुत्तये
In an excellent place, the merit is double that, so declares the lotus-born one; whoever gives a pond for the removal of all sins—
स याति जनलोकं च रेणुमानाब्दमेव च । वाप्यां फलं दशगुणं प्राप्नोति मानवः सदा
He attains the world of Janaloka and remains there for as many years as there are dust particles; by giving a reservoir, a person always obtains ten times the fruit.
स तु वापीप्रदानेन तडागस्य फलं लभेत् । धनुश्चतुःसहस्रेण दर्श्यमानेन निश्चितम्
By giving a reservoir, one obtains the fruit of a pond; this is certain when it measures four thousand bows in length and is visible.
न्यूना वा तावती प्रस्थे सा वापी परिकीर्तिता । दशवापीसमा कन्या यदि पात्रे प्रदीयते
If it is less by that much, it is still called a reservoir; if a maiden is given to a worthy person, it equals the merit of ten reservoirs.
फलं ददाति द्विगुणं यदि सालङ्कृता भवेत् । यत्फलं च तडागे च तदुद्धारे च तत्कलम्
If she is adorned, the fruit is double; whatever fruit is gained by a pond, so also by its restoration, in equal measure.
वाप्याश्च पङ्कोद्धरणे वापीतुल्यफलं लभेत् । अश्वत्थवृक्षमारोप्य प्रतिष्ठां यः करोति च
By removing the mud from a reservoir, one obtains the same fruit as giving a reservoir; whoever plants a sacred fig tree and establishes it—
स प्रयाति तपोलोकं वर्षाणामयुतं सति । पुष्पोद्यानं यो ददाति सावित्रि सर्वभूतये
He goes to the world of ascetics and remains there for ten thousand years; O Savitri, whoever gives a flower garden for all beings—
स वसेद् ध्रुवलोके च वर्षाणामयुतं धुवम् । यो ददाति विमानं च विष्णवे भारते सति
He dwells in the world of Dhruva for ten thousand years, certainly; whoever gives an aerial chariot to Vishnu in Bharata—
विष्णुलोके वसेत्सोऽपि यावन्मन्वन्तरं परम् । चित्रयुक्ते च विपुले फलं तस्य चतुर्गुणम्
He dwells in the world of Vishnu for as long as a great age of Manu; if it is splendid and adorned, the fruit is fourfold.
