त्वया मच्छब्दमात्रेण तिरोधानं कृतं पुरा । देहं तत्याज विरजा नदीरूपा बभूव सा
By your utterance of my name alone, concealment was effected previously; she abandoned her body and became the river Virajā.
कोटियोजनविस्तीर्णा ततो दैर्घ्ये चतुर्गुणा । अद्यापि विद्यमाना सा तव सत्कीर्तिरूपिणी
That river, vast as ten million yojanas in breadth and four times as much in length, even now exists, embodying your noble fame.
गृहं मयि गतायां च पुनर्गत्वा तदन्तिके । उच्चै रुरोद विरजे विरजे चेति संस्मरन्
When I had gone home, returning again to that place, I cried out loudly, remembering Virajā, calling 'Virajā!'
तदा तोयात्समुत्थाय सा योगात्सिद्धयोगिनी । सालङ्कारा मूर्तिमती ददौ तुभ्यं च दर्शनम्
Then, arising from the water by her yogic power, that accomplished yogini, adorned and embodied, granted you her vision.
ततस्तां च समाक्षिप्य वीर्याधानं कृतं त्वया । ततो बभूवुस्तस्यां च समुद्राः सप्त एव च
Afterwards, having drawn her in, you performed the act of infusing strength; then, within her, seven oceans came into being.
दृष्टस्त्वं शोभया गोप्या युक्तश्चम्पककानने । सद्यो मच्छब्दमात्रेण तिरोधानं कृतं त्वया
You were seen, radiant and concealed, in the grove of champaka trees; immediately, by your utterance of my name alone, concealment was effected.
शोभा देहं परित्यज्य जगाम चन्द्रमण्डले । ततस्तस्याः शरीरं च स्निग्धं तेजो बभूव ह
Radiance, abandoning its body, went to the orb of the moon; then her body became gentle brilliance.
संविभज्य त्वया दत्तं हृदयेन विदूयता । रत्नाय किञ्चित्स्वर्णाय किञ्चिन्मणिवराय च
Dividing it, you gave it away with a heart free from sorrow: a portion to gems, a portion to gold, and a portion to excellent jewels.
किञ्चित्स्त्रीणां मुखाब्जेभ्यः किञ्चिद्राज्ञे च किञ्चन । किञ्चित्किसलयेभ्यश्च पुष्पेभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन
A portion to the lotus faces of women, a portion to kings, a portion to tender shoots, and a portion also to flowers.
किञ्चित्कलेभ्यः पक्वेभ्यः सस्येभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन । नृपदेवगृहेभ्यश्च संस्कृतेभ्यश्च किञ्चन
A portion to mature stems, a portion also to grains, a portion to the homes of kings and gods, and a portion to the refined.
किञ्चिन्नूतनपत्रेभ्यो दुग्धेभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन । दृष्टस्त्वं प्रभया गोप्या युक्तो वृन्दावने वने
A portion to fresh leaves, a portion also to milk; you were seen, radiant and concealed, in the forest of Vrindavan.
सद्यो मच्छब्दमात्रेण तिरोधानं कृतं त्वया । प्रभा देहं परित्यज्य जगाम सूर्यमण्डले
Immediately, by your utterance of my name alone, concealment was effected; radiance, abandoning its body, went to the orb of the sun.
ततस्तस्याः शरीरं च तीव्रं तेजो बभूव ह । संविभज्य त्वया दत्तं प्रेम्णा प्ररुदता पुरा
Then her body became intense brilliance; dividing it, you gave it away with love, having previously wept.
विसृष्टं चक्षुषोः कृष्ण लज्जया मद्भयेन च । हुताशनाय किञ्चिच्च यक्षेभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन
Released from your eyes, O Krishna, out of modesty and fear of me, a portion to fire, and a portion also to the yakshas.
किञ्चित्पुरुषसिंहेभ्यो देवेभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन । किञ्चिद्विष्णुजनेभ्यश्च नागेभ्योऽपि च किञ्चन
A portion to lion-hearted men, a portion also to the gods, a portion to the followers of Vishnu, and a portion also to the serpents.
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो मुनिभ्यश्च तपस्विभ्यश्च किञ्चन । स्त्रीभ्यः सौभाग्ययुक्ताभ्यो यशस्विभ्यश्च किञ्चन
A portion to brahmins, a portion to sages, a portion to ascetics, a portion to fortunate women, and a portion to those renowned.
तत्तु दत्त्वा च सर्वेभ्यः पूर्वं प्ररुदितं त्वया । शान्तिगोप्या युतस्त्वं च दृष्टोऽसि रासमण्डले
Having given that to all, you previously wept; you were seen, joined with peaceful radiance, in the circle of the dance.
वसन्ते पुष्पशय्यायां माल्यवांश्चन्दनोक्षितः । रत्नप्रदीपैर्युक्ते च रत्ननिर्माणमन्दिरे
In spring, upon a bed of flowers, adorned with garlands and smeared with sandalwood, in a palace fashioned of jewels, illuminated by jewel lamps.
रत्नभूषणभूषाढ्यो रत्नभूषितया सह । तया दत्तं च ताम्बूलं भुक्तवांश्च पुरा विभो
Adorned with jeweled ornaments, together with her who was also adorned with jewels, you once accepted betel offered by her, O Lord, and ate it.
सद्यो मच्छब्दमात्रेण तिरोधानं कृतं त्वया । शान्तिर्देहं परित्यज्य भिया लीना त्वयि प्रभो
At the very utterance of my name, you immediately made her disappear; Śānti, out of fear, abandoned her body and merged into you, O Lord.
ततस्तस्याः शरीरं च गुणश्रेष्ठं बभूव ह । संविभज्य त्वया दत्तं प्रेम्णा प्ररुदता पुरा
Then her body became endowed with excellent qualities; you distributed it, giving it with love while weeping in the past.
विश्वे तु विपिने किञ्चिद्ब्रह्मणे च मयि प्रभो । शुद्धसत्त्वस्वरूपायै किञ्चिल्लक्ष्म्यै पुरा विभो
A portion was given to Viśva in the forest, a portion to Brahmā and to me, O Lord, and a portion formerly to Lakṣmī, whose nature is pure sattva.
त्वन्मन्त्रोपासकेभ्यश्च शाक्तेभ्यश्चापि किञ्चन । तपस्विभ्यश्च धर्माय धर्मिष्ठेभ्यश्च किञ्चन
And some to those devoted to your mantra, to Śāktas as well, to ascetics for the sake of righteousness, and to the most virtuous among the righteous.
मया पूर्वं च त्वं दृष्टो गोप्या च क्षमया सह । सुवेषयुक्तो मालावान् गन्धचन्दनचर्चितः
Formerly I saw you together with Gopī and with Kṣamā, splendidly adorned, wearing garlands, and anointed with fragrant sandalwood.
रत्नभूषितया गन्धचन्दनोक्षितया सह । सुखेन मूर्च्छितस्तल्पे पुष्पचन्दनचर्चिते
Together with her adorned with jewels and anointed with sandalwood and fragrance, you lay comfortably on a bed decorated with flowers and sandal paste.
श्लिष्टो निद्रितया सद्यः सुखेन नवसङ्गमात् । मया प्रबोधिता सा च भवांश्च स्मरणं कुरु
Embraced by her, who was sleeping, you were immediately filled with joy from new union; I awakened her, and you too—remember this.
गृहीतं पीतवस्त्रं च मुरली च मनोहरा । वनमालाकौस्तुभश्चाप्यमूल्यं रत्नकुण्डलम्
The yellow garment was taken, as well as the charming flute, the forest garland, the Kaustubha gem, and the priceless jeweled earrings.
पश्चात्प्रदत्तं प्रेम्णा च सखीनां वचनादहो । लज्जया कृष्णवर्णोऽभूद्भवान् पापेन यः प्रभो
Afterwards, these were lovingly returned at the urging of the companions; out of shame, you became dark in color, O Lord, because of that sin.
क्षमा देहं परित्यज्य लज्जया पृथिवीं गता । ततस्तस्याः शरीरं च गुणश्रेष्ठं बभूव ह
Kṣamā, abandoning her body out of shame, went to the earth; then her body became endowed with excellent qualities.
संविभज्य त्वया दत्तं प्रेम्णा प्ररुदता पुनः । किञ्चिद्दत्तं विष्णवे च वैष्णवेभ्यश्च किञ्चन
You again distributed it, giving it with love while weeping; a portion was given to Viṣṇu and some to the Vaiṣṇavas.
