धूपैर्दीपैश्च नैवेद्यैः सिन्दूरैरनुलेपनैः । वस्त्रैः पुष्पैश्च बलिभिः सम्पूज्योवाच तां हरिः
With incense, lamps, offerings, and anointments of vermilion, with garments, flowers, and oblations, he worshipped her fully and addressed her.
श्रीभगवानुवाच सर्वाधारा भव शुभे सर्वैः सम्पूजिता सुखम् । मुनिभिर्मनुभिर्देवैः सिद्धैश्च दानवादिभिः
The Blessed Lord said: O auspicious one, become the support of all, worshipped by all with joy—by sages, Manus, gods, Siddhas, and even by demons and others.
अम्बुवाचीत्यागदिने गृहारम्भे प्रवेशने । वापीतडागारम्भे च गृहे च कृषिकर्मणि
At the beginning of waterworks, on auspicious days, at the start of building a house, at entry, at the beginning of wells and ponds, and in the house for agricultural work—
तव पूजां करिष्यन्ति मद्वरेण सुरादयः । मूढा ये न करिष्यन्ति यास्यन्ति नरकं च ते
By my boon, the gods and others will worship you. Those foolish ones who do not will go to hell.
वसुधोवाच वहामि सर्वं वाराहरूपेणाहं तवाज्ञया । लीलामात्रेण भगवन् विश्वं च सचराचरम्
The Earth said: By your command, I bear everything in the form of Varaha. By mere play, O Lord, I support the entire universe, moving and unmoving.
मुक्तां शुक्तिं हरेरर्चां शिवलिङ्गं शिवां तथा । शङ्खं प्रदीपं यन्त्रं च माणिक्यं हीरकं तथा
Pearls, shells, images of Hari, Shiva lingas, the goddess Shiva, conch shells, lamps, yantras, rubies, and diamonds—
यज्ञसूत्रं च पुष्पं च पुस्तकं तुलसीदलम् । जपमालां पुष्पमालां कर्पूरं च सुवर्णकम्
Sacrificial threads, flowers, books, basil leaves, rosaries, garlands of flowers, camphor, and gold—
गोरोचनं चन्दनं च शालग्रामजलं तथा । एतान्वोडुमशक्ताहं क्लिष्टा च भगवञ्छृणु
Yellow pigment, sandalwood, and water from the Shalagrama stone—these I am unable to bear, O Lord, and am afflicted. Listen.
श्रीभगवानुवाच द्रव्याण्येतानि ये मूढा अर्पयिष्यन्ति सुन्दरि । यास्यन्ति कालसूत्रं ते दिव्यं वर्षशतं त्वयि
The Blessed Lord said: O beautiful one, those fools who offer these materials to you will go to the realm of Kālasūtra for a divine hundred years.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा भगवान् विरराम च नारद । बभूव तेन गर्भेण तेजस्वी मङ्गलग्रहः
Having spoken thus, the Blessed Lord became silent, O Nārada; through that pregnancy, an auspicious and radiant planet arose.
पूजाञ्चक्रुः पृथिव्याश्च ते सर्वे चाज्ञया हरेः । कण्वशाखोक्तध्यानेन तुष्टुवुश्च स्तवेन ते
By the command of Hari, all those on earth performed worship; with the meditation taught in the Kanva branch, they praised her with hymns.
ददुर्मूलेन मन्त्रेण नैवेद्यादिकमेव च । संस्तुता त्रिषु लोकेषु पूजिता सा बभूव ह
They offered food and other offerings with the root mantra; being praised in the three worlds and worshipped, she indeed became honored.
नारद उवाच किं ध्यानं स्तवनं तस्या मूलमन्त्रं च किं वद । गूढं सर्वपुराणेषु श्रोतुं कौतूहलं मम
Nārada said: What is her meditation, her hymn, and what is the root mantra? Tell me, for it is hidden in all the Purāṇas, and I am eager to hear.
श्रीनारायण उवाच आदौ च पृथिवी देवी वराहेण च पूजिता । ततो हि ब्रह्मणा पश्चामृजिता पृथिवी तदा
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: In the beginning, the earth goddess was worshipped by Varāha; then, at that time, she was worshipped by Brahmā as well.
ततः सर्वैर्मुनीन्द्रैश्च मनुभिर्मानवादिभिः । ध्यानं च स्तवनं मन्त्रं शृणु वक्ष्यामि नारद
After that, by all the great sages, by Manu and others, listen, O Nārada, I will tell you the meditation, hymn, and mantra.
ॐ ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं वसुधायै स्वाहेत्यनेन मन्त्रेण विष्णुना पूजिता पुरा । श्वेतपङ्कजवर्णाभां शरच्चन्द्रनिभाननाम्
With the mantra 'oṃ hrīṃ śrīṃ klīṃ vasudhāyai svāhā', she was worshipped by Viṣṇu in ancient times, shining with the color of a white lotus, her face radiant like the autumn moon.
चन्दनोत्क्षिप्तसर्वाङ्गीं रत्नभूषणभूषिताम् । रत्नाधारां रत्नगर्भां रत्नाकरसमन्विताम्
Her whole body was anointed with sandalwood, adorned with jeweled ornaments, the support of jewels, filled with jewels, and endowed with the wealth of jewels.
वह्निशुद्धांशुकाधानां सस्मितां वन्दितां भजे । ध्यानेनानेन सा देवी सर्वैश्च पूजिताभवत्
Clad in garments purified by fire, smiling, and revered, I worship her; by this meditation, that goddess was worshipped by all.
स्तवनं शृणु विप्रेन्द्र कण्वशाखोक्तमेव च । श्रीनारायण उवाच जये जये जलाधारे जलशीले जलप्रदे
Hear the hymn, O best of Brahmins, as taught in the Kanva branch. Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: Victory, victory to you, O source of waters, of watery nature, giver of water!
यज्ञसूकरजाये त्वं जयं देहि जयावहे । मङ्गले मङ्गलाधारे माङ्गल्ये मङ्गलप्रदे
O you born from the sacrificial boar, grant me victory, O bringer of victory! O auspicious one, support of auspiciousness, embodiment of auspiciousness, giver of auspiciousness!
मङ्गलार्थं मङ्गलेशे मङ्गलं देहि मे भवे । सर्वाधारे च सर्वज्ञे सर्वशक्तिसमन्विते
For the sake of auspiciousness, O ruler of auspiciousness, grant me auspiciousness in my life! Support of all, all-knowing, endowed with all powers!
सर्वकामप्रदे देवि सर्वेष्टं देहि मे भवे । पुण्यस्वरूपे पुण्यानां बीजरूपे सनातनि
O goddess, giver of all desires, grant me all that is wished for in my life! Embodiment of merit, seed of all merits, eternal one!
पुण्याश्रये पुण्यवतामालये पुण्यदे भवे । सर्वसस्यालये सर्वसस्याढ्ये सर्वसस्यदे
Refuge of merit, abode of the virtuous, giver of merit in my life! Abode of all crops, rich in all crops, giver of all crops!
सर्वसस्यहरे काले सर्वसस्यात्मिके भवे । भूमे भूमिपसर्वस्वे भूमिपालपरायणे
Remover of all crops at the right time, essence of all crops in my life! O earth, all-possessing for kings, supreme refuge of rulers!
भूमिपानां सुखकरे भूमिं देहि च भूमिदे । इदं स्तोत्रं महापुण्यं प्रातरुत्थाय यः पठेत्
Giver of happiness to kings, O giver of earth, grant me land! Whoever recites this most meritorious hymn upon rising in the morning—
कोटिजन्मसु स भवेद् बलवान्भूमिपेश्वरः । भूमिदानकृतं पुण्यं लभ्यते पठनाज्जनैः
He becomes a powerful lord of the earth for ten million births; by reciting it, people obtain the merit gained by giving land.
भूमिदानहरात्पापान्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः । अम्बुवाचीभूकरणपापात्स मुच्यते ध्रुवम्
One is freed from the sin of taking land that was given as a gift—of this there is no doubt; and certainly, one is freed from the sin of making land into a water reservoir.
अन्यकूपे कूपखननपापात्स मुच्यते ध्रुवम् । परभूमिहरात्पापान्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः
Certainly, one is freed from the sin of digging a well in another's well; and there is no doubt that one is freed from the sin of taking another's land.
भूमौ वीर्यत्यागपापाद्भूमौ दीपादिस्थापनात् । पापेन मुच्यते सोऽपि स्तोत्रस्य पठनान्मुने
By abandoning semen on the earth, or by placing lamps and such on the ground, one incurs sin; but, O sage, by reciting this hymn, even from that sin one is freed.
अश्वमेधशतं पुण्यं लभते नात्र संशयः । भूमिदेव्या महास्तोत्रं सर्वकल्याणकारकम्
There is no doubt that one attains the merit of a hundred horse sacrifices; the great hymn to the Goddess of the Earth brings about all auspiciousness.
