सरस्वती नदी सा च तीर्थरूपातिपावनी । पापिनां पापदाहाय ज्वलदग्निस्वरूपिणी
Sarasvati is a river, a holy place, supremely purifying; for sinners, she burns away sin in the form of blazing fire.
पश्चाद्भागीरथी नीता महीं भगीरथेन च । सा वै जगाम कलया वाणीशापेन नारद
Afterwards, Bhagirathi was brought to earth by Bhagiratha; she too, by the curse of Vani, went to Kala, O Narada.
तत्रैव समये तां च दधार शिरसा शिवः । वेगं सोढुमयं शक्तो भुवः प्रार्थनया विभुः
At that very time, Shiva bore her on his head; the mighty one was able to withstand her force at the request of the earth.
पद्मा जगाम कलया सा च पद्मावती नदी । भारतं भारतीशापात्स्वयं तस्थौ हरेः पदे
Padma went to Kala and became the river Padmavati; by the curse of Bharati, she herself remained at the feet of Hari.
ततोऽन्यया सा कलया लेभे जन्म च भारते । धर्मध्वजसुता लक्ष्मीर्विख्याता तुलसीति च
Then, by another portion, she took birth in Bhārata as Lakṣmī, the daughter of Dharmadhvaja, renowned as Tulasī.
पुरा सरस्वतीशापात्पश्चाच्च हरिशापतः । बभूव वृक्षरूपा सा कलया विश्वपावनी
Formerly, due to the curse of Sarasvatī and later by the curse of Hari, she, the purifier of the world, became a plant by a portion.
कलेः पञ्चसहस्रं च वर्षं स्थित्वा तु भारते । जग्मुस्ताश्च सरिद्रूपं विहाय श्रीहरेः पदम्
After remaining in Bhārata for five thousand years of Kali, they departed, taking the form of rivers, abandoning the earth for the abode of Śrī Hari.
यानि सर्वाणि तीर्थानि काशीं वृन्दावनं विना । यास्यन्ति सार्धं ताभिश्च वैकुण्ठमाज्ञया हरेः
All the sacred places, except Kāśī and Vṛndāvana, will go together with them to Vaikuṇṭha by the command of Hari.
शालग्रामः शक्तिशिवौ जगन्नाथश्च भारतम् । कलेर्दशसहस्रान्ते त्यक्त्वा यान्ति निजं पदम्
Śālagrāma, Śakti, Śiva, and Jagannātha will, at the end of ten thousand years of Kali, leave Bhārata and return to their own abodes.
साधवश्च पुराणानि शङ्खानि श्राद्धतर्पणे । वेदोक्तानि च कर्माणि ययुस्तैः सार्धमेव च
The virtuous, the Purāṇas, conch shells, and the rites of śrāddha and tarpaṇa, as well as the Vedic rituals, will depart together with them.
देवपूजा देवनाम तत्कीर्तिगुणकीर्तनम् । वेदाङ्गानि च शास्त्राणि ययुस्तैः सार्धमेव च
Worship of the gods, their names, praise of their qualities, the Vedāṅgas and the śāstras will also depart together with them.
सन्तश्च सत्यधर्मश्च वेदाश्च ग्रामदेवताः । व्रतं तपश्चानशनं ययुस्तैः सार्धमेव च
The good people, truth and righteousness, the Vedas, village deities, vows, austerity, and fasting will also depart together with them.
वामाचाररताः सर्वे मिथ्याकपटसंयुताः । तुलसीरहिता पूजा भविष्यति ततः परम्
All will become devoted to left-handed practices, full of falsehood and deceit; worship without Tulasī will then prevail.
शठाः क्रूरा दाम्भिकाश्च महाहङ्कारसंयुताः । चोराश्च हिंसकाः सर्वे भविष्यन्ति ततः परम्
Then, all will become wicked, cruel, hypocritical, filled with great arrogance, thieves, and violent.
पुंसो भेदः स्त्रीविभेदो विवाहो वापि निर्भयः । स्वस्वामिभेदो वस्तूनां भविष्यति ततः परम्
There will be division among men, separation among women, and even marriage will be without fear; there will be discord between masters and servants over possessions.
सर्वे स्त्रीवशगाः पुंसः पुश्चल्यश्च गृहे गृहे । तर्जनैर्भर्त्सनैः शश्वत्स्वामिनं ताडयन्ति च
All men will be under the control of women, and in every house, unchaste women will constantly threaten, rebuke, and even strike their husbands.
गृहेश्वरी च गृहिणी गृही भृत्याधिकोऽधमः । चेटीदाससमौ वध्वाः श्वश्रूश्च श्वशुरस्तथा
The mistress will rule the house, the householder will be inferior to the servant; the wife’s mother and father-in-law will be like maidservants and slaves.
कर्तारो बलिनो गेहे योनिसम्बन्धिबान्धवाः । विद्यासम्बन्धिभिः सार्धं सम्भाषापि न विद्यते
Those who act powerfully in the home, relatives by birth, will not even speak with those related by knowledge.
यथापरिचिता लोकास्तथा पुंसश्च बान्धवाः । सर्वकर्माक्षमाः पुंसो योषितामाज्ञया विना
Just as people are strangers to each other, so too will relatives be; all actions of men will be subject to the command of women.
ब्रह्मक्षत्रविशः शूद्रा जात्याचारविवर्जिताः । सन्ध्या च यज्ञसूत्रं च भवेल्लुप्तं न संशयः
Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras will abandon their traditional conduct; the twilight rituals and sacred thread will certainly be lost.
म्लेच्छाचारा भविष्यन्ति वर्णाश्चत्वार एव च । म्लेच्छशास्त्रं पठिष्यन्ति स्वशास्त्राणि विहाय च
All four varṇas will adopt the customs of mlecchas, and they will study the scriptures of the mlecchas, abandoning their own.
ब्रह्मक्षत्रविशां वंशाः शूद्राणां सेवकाः कलौ । सूपकारा धावकाश्च वृषवाहाश्च सर्वशः
The lineages of Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, and Vaiśyas will serve the Śūdras in Kali; all will become cooks, runners, and bullock-cart drivers.
सत्यहीना जनाः सर्वे सस्यहीना च मेदिनी । फलहीनाश्च तरवोऽपत्यहीनाश्च योषितः
All people will be devoid of truth, the earth will lack crops, trees will bear no fruit, and women will be without children.
क्षीरहीनास्तथा गावः क्षीरं सर्पिर्विवर्जितम् । दम्पती प्रीतिहीनौ च गृहिणः सत्यवर्जिताः
Cows will be without milk, and milk will lack ghee; married couples will be without affection, and householders will be bereft of truth.
प्रतापहीना भूपाश्च प्रजाश्च करपीडिताः । जलहीना महानद्यो दीर्घिकाकन्दरादयः
Kings will be without power, and their subjects oppressed by taxes; great rivers, ponds, and ravines will be without water.
धर्महीना पुण्यहीना वर्णाश्चत्वार एव च । लक्षेषु पुण्यवान्कोऽपि न तिष्ठति ततः परम्
The four classes will be without righteousness and merit; among hundreds of thousands, not even one virtuous person will remain thereafter.
कुत्सिता विकृताकारा नरा नार्यश्च बालकाः । कुवार्ता कुत्सितः शब्दो भविष्यति ततः परम्
Men, women, and children will be ugly and deformed; their actions will be wicked, and their speech will become vile thereafter.
केचिद्ग्रामाश्च नगरा नरशून्या भयानकाः । केचित्स्वल्पकुटीरेण नरेण च समन्विताः
Some villages and cities will be deserted and terrifying; others will be inhabited by only a few people in small huts.
अरण्यानि भविष्यन्ति ग्रामेषु नगरेषु च । अरण्यवासिनः सर्वे जनाश्च करपीडिताः
Forests will arise within villages and cities, and all their inhabitants will be oppressed by taxes.
सस्यानि च भविष्यन्ति तडागेषु नदीषु च । प्रकृष्टवंशजा हीना भविष्यन्ति कलौ युगे
Crops will grow in ponds and rivers, but those born of noble lineages will be diminished in the Kali age.
